Hi. I'm quite new.

Notice a lot of negative comments regarding Fruit Shoots.

We don't have them here, and I don't read magazines or watch the news.

I'm utterly intrigued.

What's wrong with Fruit Shoots?

Thanks in advance!

They are just pretty shit. But it's no biggy.

It is just a more recent coke style thing.

Sugary water with lots of additives.
I think my biggest objection is that they are marketed as if there are healthy - i.e. full of fruit.

Firawla · 26/01/2011 16:03

i think its the aspartame issue
i give my 2 yr old fruit shoots though, i think its fine now and again. its not like he lives on them

BarbieLovesKen · 26/01/2011 16:03

Just sugary crap drink which some think they are doing great offering to their children as they are called fruit shoots

waitwhat · 26/01/2011 16:06

The red ones are lovely though!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/01/2011 16:06

It's overpriced squash in a handy bottle that is ideal for squirtingall over the place. what's not to love?

plantsitter · 26/01/2011 16:06

I thought it was just people being sanctimonious until yesterday, when DD had her first one and was literally bouncing off the walls 5 minutes later. And then seemed to havw a huge come down and wanted me to carry her everywhere (ok ok not literally..).

MsKLo · 26/01/2011 16:08

Whats right with them? I just don't get why anyone would give them to kids - they are full of shite so why give a child a taste for them?

Digusting crap in a bottle

bronze · 26/01/2011 16:09

theyre really strong too
Ive watered them down before when thats been the only childrens drink available (I could give them water but thats not a treat)

maxybrown · 26/01/2011 16:10

They taste vile - to me they taste like pure undiluted cordial - but then I have juice like gnats pee Grin but DH likes his very strong and when he tasted it he couldn't bear it. We don't mind anything in moderation at all - but I do think these are poor.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 26/01/2011 16:15

There's nothing wrong with them per se on an occasional basis - it's just the very heavy sweetness may, if the kid consumes them all the time, lead to a very sweet tooth and all the problems that entails.

Cappster · 26/01/2011 16:16

I asked my dd's dietician about these because of all the mn backlash and he was fine with them

dd not made insane

also one of the few things she'll drink. If your child drinks utterly nothing, a fruit shoot is a really healthy alternative to, you know, kidney problems.

MrSpoc · 26/01/2011 16:19

I love them especially if you add a little vodka to them (knocks the kids right out)

"They are full of fruity goodness or the manufacturers wouldn't be allowed to call them 'Fruit' Shoots.
3 of them constitute one of your five-a-day."

you are joking, right?!

mutznutz · 26/01/2011 16:21

It's the same as anything OP..fizzy drinks/junk food/sweets. Ok if given in moderation.

Still makes a few people clutch their pearls to their hearts at the vision of a child being allowed to drink one though Grin

claig · 26/01/2011 16:40

'I asked my dd's dietician about these because of all the mn backlash and he was fine with them'

change your dietitician. Sounds like he doesn't know much about aspartame

BonzoDooDah · 26/01/2011 16:47

The rinks may be shoite but the bottles are F.A.B. My DD and DS would drink pureed sprouts if they were presented in a fruit shoot bottle.

BonzoDooDah · 26/01/2011 16:47

*drinks

FindingStuffToChuckOut · 26/01/2011 16:52

why don't you buy one, drink it & make your own mind up. (Bet you can't finish a whole one)

MrSpoc · 26/01/2011 16:57

Ok if vodka is not your thing BeerTricksPotter you can mix it with anything like, jack daniels, stella and even Pimms if your feeling posh, it all has the same effect and you will be garenteed a goods night sleep when the kids pass out.

KatieScarlett2833 · 26/01/2011 16:59

I just love the little purple bottles! I buy them for that reason alone, I mean, who actually cares about what goes into them? Wink

wonderstuff · 26/01/2011 17:03

They taste disgusting - dd loves them, the bottles are really handy. Why is aspartame bad?

ambarth · 26/01/2011 17:25

Now you have had the fruitshoot thing explained your mumsnet initiation is complete.
