blop blop blop slurp

Mmmmmmmmmm! Puff pastry full of salt, about three bits of steak in a gloopy gravy and a side order of ............ vegetables (you thought I was gonna say "chips" admit it). Lovely - delicious and real peasant fodder.

Ahhhh, a guilty pleasure what with the soggy pastry & everything! Grin

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 21/01/2011 16:47

Bloody love those when i'm feeling dirty, also rather partial to goblin steak and kidney puddings

Ormirian · 21/01/2011 16:48

Me too.

It's holiday-in-a-caravan food though. And very nice for all that Grin

DastardlyandSmugly · 21/01/2011 16:48

No but I love Findus Crispy Pancakes.

ProfYaffle · 21/01/2011 16:49

Really? Fray Bentos pies were an actual treat when I was a kid but I haven't had one for years. I was momentarily tempted when I saw some in the shop the other day but demurred as I thought they couldn't possibly live up to my childhood memories. Do they still taste good?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/01/2011 16:50

I've got two hidden in the cupboard and when DH is out tomorrow I'm going to have one, maybe two for my lunch. I deserve it after the shit day I've had. They're bloody lovely.

GlendaTheGrizzlyPiggy · 21/01/2011 16:52

YABU DP likes them and its all I can do to stop myself dry heaving when I see him wolfing one down Envy.

fortywinx · 21/01/2011 16:54

Most definitely not unreasonable, cos they are excellent. Especially when it's cold and dark outside and you're in the warm (although that's probably just my associations _).

Butterbur · 21/01/2011 16:55

Oh these were a staple part of our diet when I was a kid. Mum wasn't much of a cook. But I loved them. And Vesta Beef Curry. Takes me right back to the seventies. Shame I'm a veggie now.

starfishmummy · 21/01/2011 16:57

Havent had one for ages, because I prefer shortcrust pastry, but maybe next shopping trip.......nom nom

Hopelesslydisorganised · 21/01/2011 16:58

Takes me back to childhood too - had one today as they were £1 in Asda. Waiting for someone who knows about nutrition to turn up and tell me I was robbed of my £1 Grin

OpheliaBumps · 21/01/2011 17:00

Oh yum I've got such a craving now.

Ooh, and Vesta Paella, I loved those.

Hmm, I wonder if my Tescos has a '70's shelf', (you know, like they have a 'Polish shelf' and 'Luxury shelf'

thefurryone · 21/01/2011 17:00

YANBU it's been years since I had one of these, and now I want one. Although as DH already thinks I have totally chavtastic taste in food as it is will have to wait until he's out for the night! Would also probably need a tin of new potatoes and a serving of sweetcorn on the side to truly recreate one of my childhood faves.

Megatron · 21/01/2011 17:13

They are great, especially with Smash!

bumpybecky · 21/01/2011 17:14

whispers... they're £1 a pie in Iceland at the moment Wink

bitsnbobs · 21/01/2011 17:18

Mmmm, Steak and Ale YANBU

When I was a child we used to share one Frey Bentos Pie between three of us Shock

FanellaFidge · 21/01/2011 17:19

YABU

So is anyone that eats Spam, or corned beef. I have never been able to bring myself to even try any of these.

Pot Noodles, OTOH... (no meat so acceptable Grin)

stillbobbysgirl · 21/01/2011 17:20

HonestyBox · 21/01/2011 17:20

messyartist · 21/01/2011 17:25

Nothing wrong with liking Frey Bentos !! It takes me back to the 70's. I occassionally love to buy a jar of cockles in vingegar...it takes me right back to a childhood moment Grin

I have a sudden hankering for Chicken Supreme from a tin. I'm dead classy me.

LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 21/01/2011 17:29

Your right about the amount of meat but gravy is yum, and why is it their soggy pastry is nice?
