blop blop blop slurp

Mmmmmmmmmm! Puff pastry full of salt, about three bits of steak in a gloopy gravy and a side order of ............ vegetables (you thought I was gonna say "chips" admit it). Lovely - delicious and real peasant fodder.

BeerTricksPotter - you are my hero .... an actual person who has tried tripe!!!
I quite like black pudding but have never tried Pedigree Chum.

I have eaten Cattle Cake ...... does that make me a bit daring??

ifancyashandy · 21/01/2011 21:34

I have never eaten a FB Pie or Spam or a Pot Noodle or tinned mince.

Should I start? And if so with which?!

PatPending · 21/01/2011 21:39

Work yourself in gently .... try a Pot Noodle ..... 'cos there is no dodgy meat in there at least!!

Or, on the other hand, don't bother.... try a Tunnock's teacake instead.

mumeeee · 21/01/2011 21:44

TABU. They are really horrible even DD2 who is a uni student won't eat them.

ifancyashandy · 21/01/2011 21:53

Ooh, never 'ad a Tunnocks either!

backwardpossom · 21/01/2011 21:53

YANBU they're fab! Grin

mawbroon · 21/01/2011 21:56

Do you get Tunnock stuff in England?

Prefer a caramel wafer to a teacake I must say...

Ingles2 · 21/01/2011 22:06

ahhh the food of my childhood Grin
fried spam in batter with tinned potatoes from my scottish granny
brains faggots with smash from southern granny
and vesta beef curry from my mum

Ingles2 · 21/01/2011 22:07

Oh yes mabroon... I'll take a wafer or a teacake. both are lush.
I used to love getting the Broons annual at Xmas... scottish granny never let me down Grin

hairyfairylights · 21/01/2011 22:15

FB pies are my guilty pleasure Blush. DH refuses to have anything to do with them so I wait till he goes away, then me and the dogs have a feast. Serve with mash, carrots and marrowfat peas. Sighs with nostalgic contentment. Smile I particularly like the way the pastry goes all sort of slithery at the bottom.

We also used to have the Birds Eye chicken pies when we were kids sometimes which were really nice - but unfortunately I refuse to eat chicken that is intensively reared so can't eat them any more. If they did a free range version I'd buy them like a shot. There was always a tiny piece of red pimento or something in the pie juices that as a child I never really understood.

Heroine · 21/01/2011 23:55

Now this is weird - at about 3.30 this afternoon I went to the local small supermarket and was thinking about fray bentos pies in a tin - and its not like I half saw them the place didn't have any - this is totally 100% genuine!

Perhaps with the moon comes fray bentos lust??

mawbroon · 26/01/2011 12:07

Oh dear.

Went shopping yesterday, saw the FB pies were only a quid.

Bought one

Now it's in my cupboard going EAT ME EAT ME.

FB pies are something I occasionally fantasize about. ScuttleButter is right about that slithery layer.

We also had them on aisle-end display for a quid apiece recently, I've bought a couple for emergency dinners for me and DD when DH is away sometime. DDs never had one, poor deprived child, I'm sure she'll love it. Possibly indeed with mushy peas, another delicacy reserved for DHs absences.

But I've just realised I really need a bottle of HP sauce, don't I?

muddlinleigh · 26/01/2011 12:31

I love Campbells meatballs in onion gravy, topped with a dusting of powdery pretend Parmesan.

borderslass · 26/01/2011 12:36

I've got some in the cupboard as standbys when I cant be arsed to cook when we where kids one fed 5 of us now it 's just enough for DH and DS just proves that portion sizes have changed or are they just greedy pigs.

Shodan · 26/01/2011 13:02

Urgh. YABU. FB pies are on my 'Devil's work' foodlist along with gherkins and tripe.

Pot Noodles, now, they're a different matter.

And I have quite fond memories of Sandwich Spread, although not quite fond enough to go and buy some...

deepheat · 26/01/2011 13:14

YANBU They are cuisine of the highest order. Ignore any of the options with a white sauce though. Steak and Ale or Steak and Kidney (my favourite) should be the only options.

Angel delight for pudding.

GingaNinja · 26/01/2011 13:26

YAdefinitelyNBU. Arctic Roll for pud!

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/01/2011 13:35

frey bentos pie sandwich. mmmmm. You haven't lived until you've had one. must be on thick white bread.

And when you've done that, try a pot noodle sandwich.

I have many more "munchies after the pub" recipes... Grin

DuelingFanjo · 25/03/2011 11:28

bumping to let you know that they are just 99p in Lidl at the moment, and I've been told the same in Iceland!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 25/03/2011 11:50

Not in my Lidl they aren't. I've just been in to buy some fabric softener.
I looooooove them, only the ones without kidney and will be introducing DD to them soon.

DuelingFanjo · 25/03/2011 11:55

Bad luck. There's a huge display in my Lidl, I bought 8!
