I have just come across this article:

www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Huntingdon-St-Ives-St-Neots/Playgroup...

am i being unreasonable to be disgusted at how this can be legal.

OP posts:

Mass immigration started in 1948 because of a decimated population, I don't care what you say, the government started mass immigration because of shortages of manpower after the war!!

There is absolutely no way to put a figure on the deaths of military and civilians during the second world war, mostly what I've seen it's above half a million which would say that Britain desparately needed workers and wasn't just allowing immigrants to enter as some sort of social engineering experiment!!

I totally disagree with you when you say there was no shortage of people, my father was able to work in and out of jobs and demand the wages he wanted, as was everyone else, the employers got onto the government about this shortage - the government then turned to the empire to fill the jobs!!!

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:23

You're not linked to me at all - I won't worry about that.

You keep banging on and on about the BNP, have you had a run in with someone from that group, I've never heard anyone talk so much about them?????

You tell me why did the South Asains come here then? Why did the West Indians come here? You educate me? what was it about this terrible place, lazy indigenous population and the shitty jobs that made it so irresistable and appealing to the immigrants? Please enlighten me!

You do seem bitter. Read through your rant again - that sounds like the words of a bitter man!!

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:24

"I don't care what you say, the government started mass immigration because of shortages of manpower after the war!!" - these are government statistics - follow the link.

"There is absolutely no way to put a figure on the deaths of military and civilians during the second world war" - these are government statistics - follow the link.

"mostly what I've seen it's above half a million" - in other words, nowhere near decimated, and not close to offsetting the unemployment figures for the time either.

"I totally disagree with you when you say there was no shortage of people" - these are government statistics - follow the link.

"my father was able to work in and out of jobs and demand the wages he wanted, as was everyone else" - I don't doubt it for a second - but I'll bet he wasn't a bus driver. I'll bet he had a trade or at least a skill that he had learned.

The jobs in question were entry level jobs.

Again, official stats - growing population; probably about 300-600,000 on the dole; yet we imported unskilled workers.

Strange but true.

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:25

I apologize, it's not netmums!!! 'cringe'

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:26

Sorry but I don't believe government statistics for anything!!!

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:32

"You tell me why did the South Asains come here then? Why did the West Indians come here?"

Because they didn't know you were here?

"what was it about this terrible place, lazy indigenous population and the shitty jobs that made it so irresistable and appealing to the immigrants? Please enlighten me!" Now THAT's a rant.

I have not said that it is a terrible place or that the indigenous population as a whole is lazy.

I have said that the ones who ARE lazy seem to have the biggest axe to grind against legal, economically motivated immigration.

As for the shitty jobs - well, a shitty job is better than no job, isn't it? And if the boot was on the other foot, if Britain suddenly collapsed and, say, Poland became a boom area, I'd be off like a shot, because I've got a family to feed. And I don't blame immigrants for coming here and doing the same.

But then I've always worked hard and I took advantage of my good (free) education so I perhaps feel the competition less than some.

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:35

"Sorry but I don't believe government statistics for anything!!!"

So which statistics do you believe? Bloke down the pub statistics? My mate knows someone statistics? You can't say Christmas anymore it's winterval statistics?

Or are all the numbers and facts you've quoted just made up?

chibi · 21/01/2011 18:37

you can't really have a reasoned discussion with someone whose main argument is

'well i think you're wrong, and i don't believe in statistics, and i know what i feel so there'

can you?

loving your work on this thread MIFLAW

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:42

Your right MIFLAW

If Poland became a boom area we would be off like a shot to feed the family because any shitty job is better than no shitty job at all but at the same time I would be grateful to Poland for allowing me to work in their country and I wouldn't dream of slagging off the Poles once we got there!!

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:46

government statistics - actual crime versus recorded crime = government statistics!!! Lies lies lies!!

Unemployment figures verses real unemployment figures lies, lies, lies!!!

Operation time waiting lists verses real operation waiting lists lies, lies, lies!!

Sorry, that is a rant, but that is a whole other issue - my point is statistics are widely open to interpretation!!

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:47

"I would be grateful to Poland for allowing me to work in their country" - as would I; and as I was when I worked abroad (while still remembering that I was there because I was performing useful work, not just because the French and Russian governments were in awe of me as a British person.)

"I wouldn't dream of slagging off the Poles once we got there!!"

And nor would I.

And nor do the majority of immigrants to this country "slag off" the British, as far as I can see.

And nor do I.

I am sure that we all dislike individuals, or even types of people, and slag them off something rotten - but slagging off whole communities or races, solely on the basis of their skin colour or ethinicty?

Bit weird when you think of it, isn't it?

chibi · 21/01/2011 18:48

really? even if the papers were full of stories which either state outright or by implication that you and people like you are wrecking the country, using up resources, not contributing etc etc

and the dominant narrative in the media, unquestioned by most people was that you and people like you are scrounging scum?

i never expected people to be happy that i was here, but i also never expected people to think my sole aim in coming here was because i was a scrounger (hate that word) or i hated the place and was trying to take it down from the inside

there are a lot of negative messages for immigrants to absorb about themselves Sad

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:48

Maybe so, though figures in the 1940s and 1950s were often more independent as they were drawn from a wider range of sources.

But, if you don't use the govt stats, what stats ARE you building your argument on?

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:49

Chibi

Who is that to?

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:49

But you slagged off the whole of the indigenous population of Britain - read your rant again, you even mentioned the 'poor white victims to highlight the basis of thier skin colour!!

You are guilty of your own words not me!!!

ToxicKitten · 21/01/2011 18:50

Okay, is a shitty job better than no job if it pays too little money to exist at a basic level without state top ups?

(No matter what colour you are and frankly I couldn't care less if you or anybody else is sky blue pink with spots on as long as we treat ech other honestly and with respect because we are all HUMAN BEINGS!)

((Very interested to discover that ultimately all roads DO lead to Rome re economic issues versus people Wink )

chibi · 21/01/2011 18:51

@MIFLAW

to dobiegirl's post that she would never slag off Poland and be grateful etc

i don't slag off the Uk or british people fwiw, and i am v happy to be here

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:51

Good, I'm happy that you are happy here - what's the arguement???

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:54

"You are guilty of your own words not me!!!"

No - YOU are guilty of having poor reading comprehension.

I am talking about white people who portray themselves as victims. It does not follow that all white people protray themselves as victims.

Try reading what people write rather than what you would like them to have written. It will open up a whole new world to you.

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 18:56

Why mention colour at all?

giyadas · 21/01/2011 18:57

MIFLAW - "because sectors of the indigenous population...."

Sectors - A distinct subset of a market , society, industry , or economy , whose components share similar characteristics.

HTH

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:57

Going home now.

Dobie, you will need to find someone else to talk shit to.

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 18:58

Thank you Giyadas - in other words, not the whole population.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

dobiegirl · 21/01/2011 19:00

Well when people lose an arguement it figures that they get aggressive and defensive - that's ok though!!

You're going home now - where you at work!!! TUT TUT!! DOes your boss know you've been on here chatting 'shit' for hours Grin

Run along you chavey wag!!!
