am i being unreasonable to be disgusted at how this can be legal.

There's the Southall Black Sisters. Noones mentioned them as beacons of inequality.

MrSpoc · 21/01/2011 15:12

"scurryfunge Fri 21-Jan-11 15:04:55
See MrSpoc, you have just about answered your own question.

And what the fuck is an ethnic girl?"

So you are unfamiliar with the word "ethnic" there is a large shop near me that caters to the asian market and guess what it is called "the ethnic shop" - is this a bad word? i never realised it was. well you do learn something new everyday.

giyadas racism does not need cultral power to be racist. It can be quite simply one person against another. Is that so hard to understand?

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 15:12

Do they receive public fundin giydas?

giveitago · 21/01/2011 15:14

What civility - I'm just challenging your views that racism is one way - and I'm saying that as a mixed race, mixed religion and multi lingual person with a non british dh and a kid who'd from all over the shop.

I'm still awaiting your answer based on your experiences and I'll take it on board - more than what you're suggesting you'll do with my experiences and background.

giyadas · 21/01/2011 15:18

They used to get a grant, stopped in 2007 I think. Now funded by many different trusts, comic relief etc.
This toddler group only recieved a one off payment so will have to self-fund if they want to continue anyway.

scurryfunge · 21/01/2011 15:19

Sigh, gives up for now.

fedupofnamechanging · 21/01/2011 15:19

I see what you are getting at, but with all due respect I don't think that hate crimes against black people are done with the support of the British culture. I am British and it certainly isn't in my culture to support any hate crime or discriminatory action (based on colour/gender/religious views/sexuality)carried out by any person of any background.

I don't think that our culture condones rape either.

People living here experience a great deal more personal freedom than they would in many other parts of the world and on the whole I think we are a pretty kind and tolerant society. The leaders of this particular group are taking the piss though in excluding us from something which is taking place in the host country and financed in part by the host nation.

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 15:19

The Equal opp act can be very unequal if you ask me. There is a hotel in Blackpool which is allowed to advertise as Men Only and I cannot see how it is allowed to get away with it.

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 15:22

Oh please don't give up scurryfunge you clearly have taken the moraal high ground on this one we value your views.

MrSpoc · 21/01/2011 15:22

klauskinskiinthekinotech technically it is not alloud to but no one has challenged it in court.

Posie

Allow me to be clear and talk facts for once.

"however she thinks that being white and poor is more of a disadvantage than being a newly arrived refuge." Sadly, the facts do not bear this out. And how does she know what jobs these immigrants are doing? Perhpas they, like her, work hard and spend their money how they see fit?

"you look for work and find there is no jobs" - do you think she has considered that there are no jobs because of her appalling levels of literacy?

"not of British blood" - RACIST. What the fuck is "British" blood?

"our government will be so quick to punish us for racists comments and yet others are not punished" - who is "us" and who are these "others"? French holiday makers? Assuming we are not talking specifically about illegal immigrants, "us" includes everyone legally resident and thus subject to the rule of British government. RACIST.

"It is, like her support of the BNP, the way she sees it." Yes, the two are the same - ie RACIST.

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 15:23

And I am right down the hill with the rubbish spellersShock

MrSpoc · 21/01/2011 15:23

klauskinskiinthekinotech its because she could not explain to me why it was wrong to use the word ethnic.

fedupofnamechanging · 21/01/2011 15:23

The more I think about it, the more I think that there shouldn't be any groups that exclude on the grounds that someone is the 'wrong' colour. How can that be good for society as a whole.

giveitago · 21/01/2011 15:24

Great that they are still funded but how does that answer my question or the question of my 'civility'.

giyadas · 21/01/2011 15:28

I'm not sure how much more there is to explain Giveitago. Do some black or non-british people hate white people? yes, of course. Do some white people hate black or non-british people? Yes of course.
But only one of those groups has the power and cultural clout over the others.
Would it be great if everyone could live and let live? Yes, that would be ideal.
That will sometimes mean that you are excluded. Not subjected to racism, just on this occasion not included.

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 15:29

Posie
Rockin

I am shocked to hear that, in areas with large black populations, you know of people being attacked by black youths. The animals!

And yes, of course abuse such as "white whore" is offensive and racist.

So the solution is to clamp down on street gangs and aggressive youth behaviour and has little to do with colour at all.

Shame - you had such a strong argument up to that point.

giyadas · 21/01/2011 15:29

sorry, x-posts, threads moving too fast.
I was referring to "my fucking apologies" which I thought was unneccessarily aggressive.

giyadas · 21/01/2011 15:29

Forgot - it's AIBU, as you were Grin

giveitago · 21/01/2011 15:31

Yep I agree that that white people have the power but that doesn't mean there is no reverse racism? Really - do you really mean to say that giyadas?

MIFLAW · 21/01/2011 15:31

"There's the Southall Black Sisters" - are they a gang, by any chance?

Would you actually WANT equal access to the Southall Black Sisters? Are they government funded?

I don't think it is going to surprise anyone that street gangs operate outside the law and have no respect for race legislation, regardless of colour.

rockinhippy · 21/01/2011 15:33

No, MILFLAW it was a national Gov run playscheme, just so happened to be my nearest & they are open to ALL, ......the Woman in charge was of this particular group was of the same nationality/language, though I think there was more than 1 E/U language spoken, they seemed to share her language too & they DID speak English, they just couldn't be bothered

giyadas · 21/01/2011 15:39

It needs the power for it to be racism. Everyone has their prejudices, but only some of them are backed by the culture we live in.

MIFLAW - Um, no they are not a street gang, they are a feminist group doing some great work helping black women in their area. My post about them was kind of ironic.

rockinhippy · 21/01/2011 15:42

????? Shame - you had such a strong argument up to that point. ....that was never MY argument, just agreeing that it happens......& I was quite flattered....or might of been had it not been a bit scary ......they were calling me a Rich white Honky Bitch & white supermodel bitchConfused (along with lots of other more choice anti white phrases[hmm)

& NO, not street gangs, just about everyone I passed in the street I took to get some early morning milk......found out later it was a "no go area for whites" .....coming from an area where I'd never experienced Racism it was as I say an eye opener.....though nothing really to do with the argument at hand per se Wink

claig · 21/01/2011 15:45

But you had the power didn't you rockinhippy?
