that you shouldn't open a hotel if you only want straight married couples to stay in it?

Question:

Have they been told that they must let unmarried couples stay in double rooms?

Or have they been told that they must treat couples in civil partnerships the same way they treat couples who are married?

It's ridiculous anyway - if they are worried about couples being married in the sight of God then what about couples who were married in a registry office, or on a beach in Thailand, or in a mosque?

An awful lot of being seen to be PC on this thread.

People should be allowed to refuse/accept guests into their home on whatever basis they see fit.

The State/Law should butt out.

In my humble opinion.

Your home, yes. Your business which you charge money for, no.

There's quite a bit of being seen to be a twat on this thread too.

GrimmaTheNome · 18/01/2011 20:25

A civil partnership between two men is not the same as a marriage between a man and a woman in the eyes of GOD.

Fortunately, 'god' doesn't make the law of our land.

Unfortunately, our law still doesn't state unequivocally that a civil partnership has the exact same legal status as a marriage. This needs to be rectified.

But meanwhile, I thought the judges statement, as reported on R4 were very sound.

ViolaTricolor · 18/01/2011 20:26

But they didn't just rock up at someone's home, pascoe28. They booked into a hotel -- a business which sells accommodation. Same as they buy food from shops rather than knocking on a stranger's door and asking for a packet of spaghetti.

Sad for your friends, LG. Awful.

pascoe28 · 18/01/2011 20:28

Home/hotel/B&B - same difference. My point remains - I dislike this imposition of acceptance of alternative lifestyles.

They state the married bit on the booking page of their website.

I don't know what I think really. I think I think that if you operate a business in this country, you abide by the laws of this land in respect of it.

I also think Jesus welcomed those He saw as sinners. So even if this couple are right in their opinions regarding sex outside of marriage, I don't think they followed His example in that regard. I also think if you want to demonstrate your faith to others, a bit of compassion and grace goes a lot further than barring people from your doorstep.

Oh look, I did know what I thought after all Grin

BarbarianMum · 18/01/2011 20:34

Actually, I have no idea if it was planned cause I haven't followed the case that closely. But if people are breaking the law I have no problem with them being challenged. I don't see that as a set up.

What a shame, looks such a beautiful place

Shallishanti · 18/01/2011 20:37

whats with this 'imposition' of alternative beliefs and gay people constantly asserting their sexuality?
so that's different is it to women who openly, brazenly call themselves 'Mrs' which is just ramming their heterosexuality down everyone's throats?

have also seen people outside the registry office, in public view, 'celebrating' beginning a life of continual, straight, sex, because that's all marriage is about after all....

TrillianAstra · 18/01/2011 20:40

Oh right

Here at Chymorvah we have few rules, but please note that as Christians we have a deep regard for marriage(being the union of one man to one woman for life to the exclusion of all others).

Therefore, although we extend to all a warm welcome to our home, our double bedded accommodation is not available to unmarried couples ? Thank you.

Here it is.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/01/2011 20:43

Yet another thread where no differing opinions are wanted or tolerated.

I personally don't care who sleeps with what but I do think there's something pathetic in knowingly booking into a hotel run by a section of the community who are least likely to be tolerant. Why, just why? Hmm Court case and publicity?

I also think that people judge sexuality too much, but then there are some that never stop talking/ranting/promoting it. Why is that exactly?

As for the nasty comments on here, pathetic. Chatboard discussions are obviously not for you. Why can't people express their views without being heckled?

I did laugh out loud at this ridiculous comment though: "And as for the homophobic excuses for human beings above defending the right to be bigots, I do hope all of your children are gay. And your husbands". Wow, just wow. Shock

lal123 · 18/01/2011 20:43

If anyone is obsessed with sexuality its bloody church - ranting about the evils of homosexuality, the wrongs of contracepion, the evils of masturbation, insisting on celibacy before marriage and for their priests, while all the time hiding the sexual abuse and sytematic rape of children. If the religious nutters weren't so obsessed with what people get up to in privacy then they wouldn't care who stayed in their hotels.

hester · 18/01/2011 20:46

Come on Lenin, don't be coy. You know our idea of a really fun gayer holiday is to find some obscure hotel draped in beige crimplene and run up and down the corridors, shrieking and giggling about our bedtime antics. Then we do lesbo things all over the breakfast table. We even have competitions to see who can ram it furthest down the heteros' throats.

Lighten up, girls! It's just the homo idea of fun!

WilfShelf · 18/01/2011 20:46

Dogs allowed?! Them bloody dogs are always parading their unholy lipsticks sexuality, if you ask me. Ban 'em.

LadyBiscuit · 18/01/2011 20:47

Well presumably they are going to have to change that aren't they Trillian? Or they will have discrimination cases being brought against them again.

Incidentally, the couple who sued said that it wasn't a set up, they just wanted a weekend away
