Oh, I've come across this before, with an American Protestant. It was Lent and I asked him if he was going to do anything for it (charity work etc.) and he replied with a sneery look on his face, because I was so ignorant, "I will get into Heaven because of my faith, not because of my good works". And I'm afraid that I thought "No, you won't dear, will you?".
He was an arse though.
I am very interested to know how a Christian knows which bits of the Bible really are the word of God and which bits can be conveniently ignored. Doesn't the Bible contradict itself?
