That's an insult to DaftPunk tbh.

MrsBananaGrabber · 15/01/2011 22:38

Haven't read the whole thread but just had to say that you can pry my wine from my cold dead hands and I have a 5 week old and two older Dc's........Grin

mumbar · 15/01/2011 22:52

Personally I don't drink alone (or at all really!), as live alone with DS,6. Thats my choice and I don't judge those who do.

Mt reasoning is that should anything happen I would need to be able to drive, deal with it. (DS has got allergies).

HOWEVER, that said a glass of wine is OK to drive on, and also having a drink or 2 is different from getting drunk.

MainlyMaynie · 15/01/2011 22:54

I am :o at the idea that one of the reasons not to drink is because you'd smell of alcohol at A and E. I don't think you'd be the only one there smelling of alcohol on a Saturday night...

groak · 15/01/2011 22:58

me got me bottl o wine nearly drunk and got my two dcs in bed.
f there was e=an emergency, dh is avail (worl=king) as are my parents, and my sister. if i idn't drink in the house i'd never drink because we never go out (rassen fasen, but that's another thread / the same for most parents Grin )

.. and it's going down v nicely thanks!

MollieO · 15/01/2011 22:59

Well I've learnt something this evening Hmm Didn't realise I had to be teetotal to be a lone parent.

DooinMeCleanin · 15/01/2011 23:01

'.. and it's going down v nicely thanks!' - we can see that groak Grin

I'm just on my first glass. Dh is staying sober because he is at work in the morning. However niether of us can drive, so I guess if you need to drive to be okay in an emergency we are screwed either way. Might aswell get pissed and join Groak Wink

SoMuchToBits · 15/01/2011 23:02

Hope your advent calendar was as successful as ours!

BamBam21 · 15/01/2011 23:02

Hiya!

Scuzy I feel sorry for you as I think you have taken a battering for a genuine mistake with no intent to insult anybody.

FTR, my DP has flu, and my DS had an accident today which resulted in him tearing his fingernail really badly. He now has a big padded dressing on his poorly wee finger and is fast asleep, and DP is in bed snoring. I have had a couple of vodka and cokes, and will probably have another couple. It has been a stressful day! Smile

groak · 15/01/2011 23:10

My DS is now 7. For what it's worth, when he was tiny and in a cot, I would have a couple of drinks, but never get drunk, and I slept so lightly that I awoke to the tiniest noise. Anyway, he is now big enough to wander through if he needs anything, without shouting for me, but I still don't get totally bladdered. I just like a wee booze and a puff! Wink

BamBam21 · 15/01/2011 23:32

Okay, I LOVE a wee booze and a puff! Grin Wink

FunnysInTheGarden · 15/01/2011 23:35

I drink like buggery me, and I don't give a shit Grin

I am the worst sort of parent and most probably hate my own children.

MollieO · 15/01/2011 23:36

Hi SoMuch can't say I enjoyed this year's calendar as much as last year's. Frankly there isn't much you can do with load of food and a few furry animals. Ds wants to put it all back in the box and keep it to use next year. I've vetoed that idea!

FunnysInTheGarden · 15/01/2011 23:37

MrsBanana LOLing at cold dead hand Grin I know how you feel

DooinMeCleanin · 15/01/2011 23:38

'I drink like buggery me, and I don't give a shit'

Me too, Funny.

BamBam21 · 15/01/2011 23:44

Funnys and DMC - you're my kind of gals! Grin

DooinMeCleanin · 15/01/2011 23:46

I'm from the North East. I have to love alcohol. T'is the law, you know. Grin

oliviacrumble · 15/01/2011 23:50

scuzy, if you're still around, are you Irish by any chance?

I only ask because you have a lovely Irish turn of phrase.

Am Irish myself, in case anyone finds any racist overtones in my comment.

Just thought I recognised a fellow countrywoman. Smile

Kewcumber · 15/01/2011 23:52

"What is the need to have to have a drink out of a social situation?"

What is this need business? Who needs to have a drink ever. Or ea chocolate or read a book or shave their legs. Confused

I am a single parent and I don't drink but I don't assume anyone who has a glass of wine (or even two Shock) is an old soak who is blubbering into their pint glass or sherry of an evening.

Most people can be moderate when they need to. If you can't, don't drink at all. Others can.
