Surely it depends on how much you're going to drink? Obviously getting absolutely hammered isn't a good idea. What about single parents?Hmm

YABU

How is it different from both parents having a glass of wine at home in the evening?

scuzy · 15/01/2011 15:26

i dunno i would just have thought you'd want your complete wits about yourself ... i guess no harm in a glass or two. i'm sorry.

do you go to bed with the children too, in case you are too tired to parent effectively?

Hoist your arse out of the judgey pants and get a life!

Silver1 · 15/01/2011 15:28

Well I can hardly chuck the poor wee sleeping tot out into the cold whilst I have a glass of red now can I?

If my son were seriously ill, I would call a Dr or an ambulance sober or not if he was ill I would not want to drive him to hospital on my own.

If you are implying that after some wine I would be too tipsy to know if my son was seriously ill or that I would be too sloshed to get out of a burning house I say get over yourself. A drink or two does not make you drunk.

scuzy · 15/01/2011 15:28

i do actually sleep with my ds

Catsmamma · 15/01/2011 15:29

i meant at the same time!

cunexttuesonline · 15/01/2011 15:29

I can drink a bottle of wine and still be perfectly fine to look after DS in the event of him waking up, being ill or whatever.

scuzy · 15/01/2011 15:30

ok ok i see yer points. obviously i should have posted my original post better.

Sometimes me and DP both have a few drinks in the evening! On NYE we even had a party with our baby in the flat and got quite drunk indeed.

scuzy · 15/01/2011 15:32

but moon what if anything happened in middle of night and ye were both in a drunken slumber? i'm serious here.

Ooopsadaisy · 15/01/2011 15:32

scuzy - I think what needs to be clarified in order to give a sensible opinion is:

How old are the dcs?

How long is the person alone with them and is it while they are in bed or settled indoors (as opposed to needing driving all round the country at 9 o'clock in the morning)?

Any health issues?

ie - I would not drink a bottle of Pimms if I had to go out with dcs. Or if either dc was unwell and might need me firing on all cylinders.

If we are talking abut a few glasses of wine with a takeaway while teenagers play wii in the other room at 9pm tonight then I think it's fine.

scuzy · 15/01/2011 15:33

yes your last scenario is fine. i guess i meant a baby or young toddler.

YABU
As long as it's not 3 bottles

MoonUnitAlpha · 15/01/2011 15:36

I always hear ds in the night, even after a few drinks. And DP sleeps through even if he's sober Hmm

I'd have to drink myself unconscious to not wake in the night, and the hangover isn't worth it.

lal123 · 15/01/2011 15:36

So if we have a rare night out and get drunk should we ask babysitter to stay all night?

usualsuspect · 15/01/2011 15:37

But I also drank in the evenings when he was younger

scuzy · 15/01/2011 15:37

why do ye have to get drunk?? as moon says are ye not both sick the next day?

OP posts:
Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/01/2011 15:38

Oh FGS, there is nothing wrong with having a glass of wine or 2 whilst on your own with children in the house.

I haven't got 'drunk' for years and only drink alcohol one night a week but a glass or two of wine is no problem IMO, whether DH is here or not.

Most people can enjoy a drink without having to get 'drunk'Hmm
