to be curious to know how many of us are middle class mothers who wear Boden?

I always enjoy the wide cross section of opinions, attitudes and experiences on Mumsnet. But other media seems keen to present Mumsnet as white middle class Boden adorned mothers.

I know I'm not, but how many of us are? Grin

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't find anything in the older threads.

TheFeministParent · 02/01/2011 13:19

dcs wear it though

NinkyNonker · 02/01/2011 13:53

Interesting, according to that link (never knew it was so confusing)...I'm an 'A', now called a '2', but used to be a '1' before a career change, DH is the same (2 used to 1) am privately educated middle middle class but family is upper middle class...how the bloody hell does this work?! Can I just be in a little sub-sector known as me?!

I have some Boden stuff in my wardrobe, but the last couple of bits I bought were awful quality. Mainly I buy from Dorothy Perkins.

fatlazymummy · 02/01/2011 17:17

I am a white, working class mother.
Who never heard of Boden until I came onto Mumsnet. And still can't be arsed to google it.

GeorgeEliot · 02/01/2011 18:31

Guilty as charged - although trying to avoid Boden now as really don't like the stereotype.

maddy68 · 02/01/2011 18:34

Middle class - yes
Boden - NOOOOOOO!!!! way too frumpy

SofaQueen · 02/01/2011 18:42

Middle class - check
private school/4x4 - checkx2
mother - check
white - no
Boden wearer - no, and have never looked through one of their catalogues (binned in plastic when I receive teasers from Ocado)

MadameCastafiore · 02/01/2011 18:45

Guilty on all counts me lord!

Although Boden does not make up the majority of my wardrobe but it does the DCs and DH will only wear their brand of socks, he likes the way they feel (??) and he does have quite a collection fo their shirts and t shirts.

skyswept · 03/01/2011 15:25

working class
and would never wear boden as it is just ugly.

taffetacat · 03/01/2011 15:55

EB fan, bleurgh @ Cath K - too twee for meeee

KangarooCaught · 03/01/2011 15:58

I'm MC & my children wear Boden

[feels like a AA meeting]

singarainbow · 03/01/2011 16:00

I am a mother, but not middle class, nor do I own anything from Boden.

CheerfulYank · 03/01/2011 16:05

Wait, what? You get a Boden discount for joining mumsnet? Where's mine?!

LOL kangaroo, exactly.

"Hello, I'm Cheerfulyank. It's been five days since I last wore Boden..." (although that's a lie 'cause I'm wearing the stripy socks right now. Blush )

In the US not too many people know Boden, though, so there's none of this "oh, that skirt's from the 2009 spring catalogue", or anything.

ItsMeYourCathy · 03/01/2011 16:05

At the risk of asking a stupid question (and admittedly not having read all of the thread) what constitutes middle class? Can I opt out of being in any class? Should I care what class I am categorised in?

IvantaOuiOui · 03/01/2011 16:06

I buy most of my clothes off ebay. But a couple of years ago I did buy a bright green waterproof coat from Boden and it is bloody brilliant. I am an old goth with pink hair and tattoos so I don't think I'm really their target audience.

Fernie3 · 03/01/2011 16:07

I have no idea if im middle class....we are directors in our own company but its a fairly crappy one and not about to make us millionaires any time soon so not sure where that puts us! I went to uni husband didnt. We rent.

I don't wear Boden it's just not my style at all.

We are White

Have 4 children.

alicet · 03/01/2011 16:17

Only read op.

Yep. I am a middle class mother who wears Boden. So the stereotype fits me anyway!

alicet · 03/01/2011 16:18

In fact its quite unusual that I only have one item of Boden on at the mo - a top - although I was wearing a big chunky cardi of theirs earlier when I went out! Grin

taffetacat · 03/01/2011 16:20

ItsMe - the way I work it through is thus, I'm not working class, nor upper class, ergo I am middle class.

alicet · 03/01/2011 16:20

Oh and I am white but I don't drive a 4x4 (although would have been pretty useful in the recent snow and ice). And neither dh or I were privately educated and neither will either of our boys be (unless it seems liek there are compelling reasons as they grow up as to why this is a better option for them)

TheBolter · 03/01/2011 16:25

White mc. Have about three/four Boden items in wardrobe but only wear two of them regularly. They're quite innocuous in their design. I dress the dds in Mini Boden almost exclusively but just can't do Boden forme. It's way to frumpy and blatantly aspirational .

I prefer to shopat Toast, French Connection, Oasis, Great Plains, H&M and the odd bit of TopShop.

TheBolter · 03/01/2011 16:26

for me and too

Honeydragon · 03/01/2011 16:27

What I have gathered so far is
some people think they might be middle class
some think they might not
Some want to be
others definitely don't
most of us aren't sure what it is
Wiki hasn't helped as thats opened about a gadzillion other subsections people can belong too Grin

A lot of people wear Boden, but some feel they have sold out in some way by doing so.

Boden has a weird effect on Mumsnetters....they worry if they wear it, worry if they don't. All Mumsnetters think it is expensive.

Mumsnet is made up of just about everyone.... but we already knew that Wink
