to be curious to know how many of us are middle class mothers who wear Boden?

I always enjoy the wide cross section of opinions, attitudes and experiences on Mumsnet. But other media seems keen to present Mumsnet as white middle class Boden adorned mothers.

I know I'm not, but how many of us are? Grin

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't find anything in the older threads.

I wear boden somtimes (because their trousers fit me perfectly), Hobbs (becuase I can fit into their 14's when I am probably really a 16), Caroline Charles (when I need something that no other mums are wearing), zara (for truly lovely cardis), M&S (Knickers, jumpers, tshirts jeans & trousers), Dorothy Perkins (cheaper than the above for all the above), T Max bargains (one off lovely stuff) Tesco (some of the above) & Asda ( ditto), Lavenham or puffa jackets for the farm, hunter or bog standard wellies from the local farmers cooperative for walking - oh ... and NMD Jeans for when I want to feel thinner than I really am.

OMG - what does that make me class wise I wonder? Sad that some people (not those who have posted before) think the clothes we choose determined our class!

bucaneve · 02/01/2011 00:47

White - yes
Middle Class - Not sure as I'm not British

I'm white, not yet a mum, never heard of Boden til I came to this website (hooked on the ebay/education/(bizarrely) the baby names forums).

I have to be honest and say I'm middle class now. I'm a teacher and so is my partner, but we're both still pretty junior so definitely lower middle.

Our families are almost all working class and I think it shows. We were at a house party once with lots of uni students and my partner mentioned to his friend that he didn't know what to do with himself, career-wise. One of the students piped up 'Why not go back to college and get some qualifications? You could be a plumber'.

My partner had just graduated with an honours degree in Maths from a Russell Group uni. He was not pleased, but I creased myself laughing. He does kind of look like a plumber. But then, his dad is one...

anonymosity · 02/01/2011 01:06

Definitely don't wear boden - too many patterns, gives me a headache, can just about tolerate some of the kids stuff (when in the sale only!). Prefer darker, plainer designs.

rodformyownback · 02/01/2011 01:47

shosh still don't reckon you're a proper chav!

ladysybil · 02/01/2011 01:56

i used to wear boden. dont any more as i think its too boring and overpriced. definitly not white, although have been called a bounty and a coconut by loving friends. middle class is only box i tick i'm afraid. and tbh, i only discovered boden because of mumsnet. wouldnt have had a clue about it otherwise

ShoshanaBlue · 02/01/2011 02:14

I'll have you know that I own some pink sportswear in the style of Vicky Pollard (for the gym though) and I live in a ghetto. Not a council house though, although I do have council house aspirations (The Elms estate and not Victoria or Dicky Bird please.....)

I haven't looked at Wiki's definition but definitely chavscum according to the Daily Mail....

CheerfulYank · 02/01/2011 02:41

I'm white, a mother, and wear some Boden. DS has quite a bit of it since miniBoden is so well made.

I'm not British, so the class thing is tough. We don't have a lot of money but given all the other things I suppose I'd be middle class.

goingmadinthecountry · 02/01/2011 02:44

I'm white and middle class with 4 kids. I look throught the Boden catalogue when it arrives, but never see anything I'd wear. It always really stands out when I see it on other people.

My look's a bit more thrown together plus Converse. Must grow up at some point.

CheerfulYank · 02/01/2011 02:47

I'm still a Converse girl too, goingmad. :)

onceamai · 02/01/2011 05:01

Middle class: Yes
White: Yes
Boden: Yes but also Per Una, East, Phase Eight, and the odd "good" label such as Jaeger, Basler - not trendy here - Boden for me was the perfect replacement in my 40's for the Laura Ashley of my 20's
Children: Yes, 2

goingroundthebend4 · 02/01/2011 05:15

Middleclass nope I'm sp benefit scrounger dint you know Wink
Boden - no but dd has couple things brought as prsemts from there

children yes 4 of them

GrizzlyMacDuff · 02/01/2011 07:55

i suspect the class system needs to be changed to the following

super rich
rich
upper middle class
lower middle class
mumsnet class
working class
underclass

Georgimama · 02/01/2011 08:04

White - yes
Middle class - I suppose so
Boden - nope.

I do like some Boden bits, particularly the dresses (not the ones with silly jaunty names and splotches all over them I might add) but it all seems so expensive to me (I am not going to spend £95 on a cotton day dress), and it is basically catalogue shopping. I have no idea if I will like it when it arrives and sending stuff back to catalogues is a PITA.

Fibilou · 02/01/2011 08:10

i definitely am although I wear Monsoon not Boden.

queenofallshesurveys · 02/01/2011 08:12

white, mum of 3, middle class, but never bought anything from Boden, even for the kids (although I admit some of the kids stuff does look lovely)

janajos · 02/01/2011 08:28

Middle class - yes
children - yes
Boden, sometimes, mainly for children.

nymphadora · 02/01/2011 08:33

No & No!

bluejeans · 02/01/2011 08:36

According to the Wiki definition I'm middle middle class except that I hate Radio 4

DH considers himself working class but loves Radio 4

No Boden in our house, my sister and her DCs are heavily into Boden but she dislikes Mumsnet

Confused
beanlet · 02/01/2011 08:39

Middle class, no boden has ever darkened my door. Thoth that might be because I'm so fat after the birth of DS that the thought of buying clothes is too depressing. When in shape I'm an LK Bennett for work, Noa Noa for play kinda gal.

mrz · 02/01/2011 08:51

Well according to Wiki I'm middle class too except I'm not sure I agree with the definition ...Boden? no chance!

Stangirl · 02/01/2011 09:21

Middle class - yes to all intents and purposes but I fight it like mad and will go out of the way to do things in an un-mc way as possible.

Boden - No. The place style goes to die.

Emjxxx · 02/01/2011 09:35

Middle class - No, defo working class here
White - Yes
Boden - No can't afford it, but even if I could I wouldn't, too much of a chav here I'm afraid!

Psammead · 02/01/2011 09:43

White - yes
MC - lower
Boden - no!
