to be curious to know how many of us are middle class mothers who wear Boden?

I always enjoy the wide cross section of opinions, attitudes and experiences on Mumsnet. But other media seems keen to present Mumsnet as white middle class Boden adorned mothers.

I know I'm not, but how many of us are? Grin

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't find anything in the older threads.

Just type 'Boden' into the 'Mumsnet Talk' search field. That should shed some light!

Thousands upon thousands of meaningless threads about fucking cardigans.

Mum = Yes
Middle Class = I wish
Wardrobe = H&M

usualsuspect · 03/01/2011 16:28

mother yes
boden no
white yes
class don't care

taffetacat · 03/01/2011 16:30

Nice summary HoneyDragon Grin

I think for Boden, you could substitute a few other seemingly MC brands and get a similar reaction, amongst the MC posters, certainly. Are the middle classes not known for their angst?

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 03/01/2011 16:31

Let's just scrap the Middle Class bit. I personally don't give a flying fuck what class anyone is. Are you a mother and do you wear Boden will do for me.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 03/01/2011 16:48

Eeek. Er, definitely white. definitely a mother. No idea what class I am, but going by the wiki link I must veer around the various levels of 'Middle' (privately educated through assisted place scheme, Uni dropout now living in a council flat and working p/time in retail. DH is very low management in public sector)

Never ever worn Boden. Out of my price range and not my cup of tea, although I'd imagine I could find something wearable if I had to. The kids clothes were okay iirc (haven't looked for ages)

poshtottie · 03/01/2011 17:07

I'm working class.

White.

Yes I wear boden.

BecauseItoldYouSo · 03/01/2011 17:13

Not sure about the "class thing" as I am an expat.

I am white, no doubt about that.

I do have some Boden in my wardrobe, but that is mainly because the shop is around the corner from my house and sometimes I wander in for a browse and during the sales I might pick up a t-shirt, skirt or something for DD if it is a really good reduction.

My wardrobe mostly consists of Banana Republic, Pull & Bear, Warehouse, Gap, Bershka, H&M and stacks of T-shirts from Primark.

I'm a right scrubber. I think I'm being posh if I shop in New Look as opposed to Primark.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/01/2011 19:35

No idea if im middle class or not. I'm a sales assistant and DH is an IT consultant so that probably makes me a semi-middle class Grin Wink

As for Boden, hell no. Im 26 years old and look about 16 I would look like im trying to play dress up in my Mothers clothes.

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/01/2011 19:35

White, female, working class, do not wear Boden as the clothes are frumpy, I emphatically will not wear a skirt described as 'fun', the catalogues make me want to stab Johnny Boden in an artful fashion.

Work clothes from House of Frase and Mango. Play clothes from All Saints, French Connection and whatever I find in the Reiss sale.

Nah, don't be silly. You are too old for satin boob tubes from Top Shop, but All Saints is fine for a couple more years, then it's Country Casuals for you.

Middle class? Yes.
Mother? Nope.
Boden? Never in a million years.

PrincessScrumpy · 03/01/2011 20:22

Can I ask - what's wrong with Boden?

I have a couple of things and the best thing is that the tops are long enough to cover my tummy even when scrabbling around on the floor playing with dd. And the Quality seems good too. So, why am I not supposed to wear them?

PoweredbyTea · 03/01/2011 20:23

Middle class: probably look like it, don't really feel it.
Mother: no. I wish.
Boden: not my style but can't afford it anyway!

ifancyashandy · 03/01/2011 20:37

Boden? Hmmm.... twee, smug, boring, unimaginative and clique-y. Sorry.

And add to that I just hate most of their patterns and colours. They scream 'look how individual and imaginative I am' when they are very much not.

Sorry again.

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 03/01/2011 20:38

Lordy! According to Wiki,my dad is Upper class. That means that by marrying dh I have lowered myself.Grin
Middle class-apparently so
White-yes
Mother-yes
Boden wearer,yes,2 items from charity shops.

btbetty · 03/01/2011 20:43

Working class - definately not middle class.

Boden -erm no!far too mumsy for me. Most of my clothes are top shop, next or gap (Karen Millen or Hobbs for going out -not very often though!).

Mother -yes!:)

islandhopper · 03/01/2011 21:00

Yes, on all counts, m'lud. Apols.

PrincessBoo · 04/01/2011 22:41

I am NOT Mumsy. I am NOT twee. I am NOT unimaginative and the last thing anyone who knows me could ever accuse me of is being cliquey.

However, being blessed with massive norks and an apple shape Boden dresses look good on me. I haven't been able to step in to frigging Topshop for about 7 years because I CAN'T EVEN GET ONE BLOODY LEG IN THEIR TINY CLOTHES.

and relax.

Anyone for a nice cup of earl grey? ;o

PrincessBoo · 04/01/2011 22:42

:o (grin fail)

coco2901 · 04/01/2011 22:53

Middle class? I have no idea, it's never crossed my mind. I'm from a working class background but university educated and in a professional job, OH on the other hand is a tradesman with almost no qualifications... you tell me!

Mother? In waiting, 15 weeks to go.

Boden? No, more like topshop :)

sue52 · 04/01/2011 23:00

Well I'm middle aged, white and would probably fit the middle class profile but I've only ordered 2 items from Boden since October so I think I've broken the habit.
