to be curious to know how many of us are middle class mothers who wear Boden?

I always enjoy the wide cross section of opinions, attitudes and experiences on Mumsnet. But other media seems keen to present Mumsnet as white middle class Boden adorned mothers.

I know I'm not, but how many of us are? Grin

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't find anything in the older threads.

Oh, mother - yes.

schoolsecretary · 02/01/2011 09:59

White - yes
Middle class - not sure! Probably not.
Boden - had never heard of it till I
I joined nm. Had a look on ebay.... way too expensive for me and not what I would wear at all.

GooseFatRoasties · 02/01/2011 10:01

White - yes
middle class - no
Boden- never heard of it until came on here

emy72 · 02/01/2011 10:20

Mother = yes
Boden = no. I never heard of it either until Mumsnet!!!

Guilty on all counts.

However, in my defence, I do not consider myself a mumsnetter. I only joined for the Boden discount Grin

(though I do now lurk and post on a couple of threads)

Lynli · 02/01/2011 10:43

I am white
I am a Mother
I have never worn Boden.

I may be MC, despite many discussions there has never been a definitive answer to what makes one MC.

missymousie · 02/01/2011 10:53

White -yes Middle hmm(parental touches of upper mid - personal touches of under).

I wear Boden and like it - mostly as it is perfect for work but am wearing v flattering boyfriend jeans now

I have had phases of buying from supermarkets etc but find that the clothes quickly look old and a bit sad (prob just on me)

I recognise Boden on a few people round here and they tend to be unusually physically attractive women in thirties and forties who earn their own money and tend to be a bit quirky in one way or another

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 10:55

I don't think MN is predominantly MC, hasn't been my impression. I would say it is quite mixed. I certainly remember quite a few threads where it was all about being working class for instance.

Predominantly white? Well I am white but I really have no idea at all how many other MNers are.

NinkyNonker · 02/01/2011 10:59

'Fraid am guilty as charged. Obviously not all Boden, but I do get some bits in the sales and discount times...especially as they do long lengths in all trousers and skirts/dresses, which is unusual and I need for my abnormally long legs. I am prob a little under their age target though as am still (just) in my 20-ies, so maybe I am just old before my time! I also wear a lot of other stuff too of course, but I am pretty standard middle class, however you define that now.

What a cliche eh!

atah · 02/01/2011 10:59

I am a white mother, but none of the other crimes are mine! Grin

NinkyNonker · 02/01/2011 11:01

But I do think that people who refuse to buy Boden just because it is Boden are equally as sad as those who will only buy Boden because it is Boden, if you see what I mean.

chivers1977 · 02/01/2011 11:02

Middle middle class here but living in a not so great area married to a previously working class DH who works in a white collar role. No idea where that leaves me! No Boden has ever come into this house (although I would like the funds to try it!). White.

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 11:05

ooh wish I had long legs..

Lovecat · 02/01/2011 11:06

Mixed race Non-English, although born & brought up here
Mother of 1
According to Wiki, I'm Spiritualist Meritocracy, but I always thought I was working class made good... I had a WC upbringing and definitely retain many elements of that in terms of tastes etc.
However, I own a horse, so apparently that makes me Noveau Riche (bwah ha haaa! Most of the people on our yard are teachers, nurses, social workers... think that definition has had it's day!)
Boden tops and dresses from Ebay and nothing from the recent catalogues as it's all a bit shit. Did buy a bag in the sale, though. Mostly I am shopping in Sainsbos for my clothing!

valleyqueen · 02/01/2011 11:08

I have no idea what class I am, how do I find out.

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 11:10

ask someone you know! The point about class seems to me to be how others define you

trice · 02/01/2011 11:11

I am a white middle class mum and very proud to be so. I probably would wear boden but I am too fat and not quite rich enough.

gibbergabber · 02/01/2011 11:13

By definition I'm not middle-class but in relation to the area I live in and its general demograph than I expect I would be considered so.

Am white, a mother but have never owned anything Boden.

JeezyPeeps · 02/01/2011 11:19

My mum bought me a Boden jumper from a charity shop. Does that count??

ProfYaffle · 02/01/2011 11:21

Class - think I've got one foot in upper working and one foot in lower middle. I read the Guardian, listen to Radio 4 but don't mind the TV being on a lot.

Mother - yes.

Boden - No. I did have a Boden coat once but it was too distinctively Boden, got a bit fed up with people looking at me and going "Ah yes, the 2008 Winter catalogue, I had the 2007 version" etc etc

However, I did notice that shop assistants in Cambridge are significantly more friendly when you're wearing a middle class signifier.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/01/2011 11:23

White - yes
MC- yes
Mother - yes
Boden - err I thought it was kitchen stuff until I got on this site! Xmas Blush

LaraJade · 02/01/2011 13:11

White - yes, Boden - no, definitely not!

Middle class - aiming to get there (is that ok?),
Mother - would like to be soon.

Mummy2Bookie · 02/01/2011 13:13

Nope not boden

M2011yRoger · 02/01/2011 13:15

white, classless, am on Boden mailing list because i once bought some black linen trews in the sale.
I have a Boden spotty coat - bought it for £8 in a charity shop.
