to be curious to know how many of us are middle class mothers who wear Boden?

I always enjoy the wide cross section of opinions, attitudes and experiences on Mumsnet. But other media seems keen to present Mumsnet as white middle class Boden adorned mothers.

I know I'm not, but how many of us are? Grin

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't find anything in the older threads.

Ethnicity - white british
Current class - E
Children - none
Boden - none

Good thread idea! What are the counts so far?

MamaVoo · 01/01/2011 22:58

Middle class - No, working class - although perhaps less so than my parents, if that's possible?

Boden - I have a dress from Boden that I bought years ago before I knew of Mumset. It's black, not one of those strange mumsy pattens that they seem so fond of.

Mother - yes.

skyswept · 01/01/2011 22:58

I'm mixed race, middle class. I looked into the boden and opted out. The clothes are so ugly!

PrincessBoo · 01/01/2011 22:58

I only buy Boden in the sale, on ebay and at the clearance sales by the way. Can't afford full price. Don't actually want to be defined as any class either.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 22:59

1234, so many call centre workers are degree educated, home owners who drive 4x4s, shop in waitrose, whatever so how can that make people who work there working class only?

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 01/01/2011 22:59

Love JC and have read Class, it makes me howl and she absolutely has it. I think class is more of a mentality though rather than what you have/don't have.

Do you mean the Fulfords, Princess? The Fucking Fulfords was the title I think.

Honeydragon · 01/01/2011 23:00

I don't know Grace, it all got confusing when I had to multiply by Boden subtract Joules, add Farface and Fraction everything into quiches. Confused

Then Wiki got linked and we have subsections of middle class. Shock

However, I am confident the Daily Mail have got it wrong Smile

Ah yes that's it. Upperclass, but sooo not classy!

tippytap · 01/01/2011 23:02

Crikey -

I'm a....

White,
lower Middle Class (according to that Wiki article),
single mother of 1,
who doesn't wear Boden.

Honey One thing most MNers have in common is a shared hatred of the Daily Mail n'est ce pas?

(I used French - was that a middle class affectation? :o )

1234ThumbScrew · 01/01/2011 23:08

Well Grizlzly I personally use language as an indicator more then occupation. If your 4x4 driving call centre workers says they are going home for supper then I know they're middle class. Not that it matters really.

figcake · 01/01/2011 23:09

Never could have been described as working class as far back as family tree can be traced but definitely married to one so probably end up middle class on average - I like the description 'downwardly mobile' per Brandy.

Have a few bits of preloved Boden - can't remember the last time I even wore them. DH would not know what Boden was (Ihave tried to explain but he forgets) but if I explained the whole Boden thing to Desperate-to-be-posh MIL, she would bankrupt herself in an instant, crashing the Boden website in the process.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 23:10

if language is an indicator, I am changing by the day as DH beats my accent out of me Wink

Petal02 · 01/01/2011 23:11

Interesting thread - we don't have kids, but we have a comfortable lifestyle, and I love Boden!

ItsGraceAgain · 01/01/2011 23:11

You're quite right, Honeydragon, the DM has completely failed to grasp the many & subtle varieties of quiche ...

Interesting qualitative condundrum you've highlighted there! Does Whistles count as Boden-like, and where does Fatface sit on the Boden Non-Boden scattergram??

Not that anyone cares (except Mumsnet's ad department) Grin

PeeringIntoAFestiveVoid · 01/01/2011 23:13

Have heard of Boden - on MN - but have never bought or worn any of their clothes.

Guilty on all other counts though. Grin

BlessingsGalore · 01/01/2011 23:15

Just googled myself and I'm Nouveau Riche so apparently looked down on by every class! :(

MrsPennySworth · 01/01/2011 23:15

Ok I also always wonder how classes are properly classified and according to that wiki link Im caught between nouveau riche and middle middle class in that my dh and I grew up very much with unskilled working class parents but dh is university educated (im not) and we are now fairly well off (6 figure salary) and like nice things like waitrose food and nice cars etc (well come on who doesn't really!?).

However, I don't think we really sound or look like middle class people as we especially can't fake our extremely unposh accents and most of my clothes are from primarni/tesco etc so to be honest I still don't really know what I am Confused

mamatomany · 01/01/2011 23:17

If it's based on partner's job i'm aristocracy Grin
I've ordered a lot of boden from the spring/summer preview but i bet i return 99% of it, I still feel too young to wear it although i bet i'm not Blush

Petal02 · 01/01/2011 23:19

I've just discussed this with my husband, who decided he has a working class occupation which pays a middle class income. He owns a building business. This class stuff is confusing.

PrincessBoo · 01/01/2011 23:19

Have just looked at link again. I live in Worcester - ergo am Worcester woman. Job done.

zisforzebra · 01/01/2011 23:22

White working class. I do like boden, fat face, monsoon and white stuff but only when i can pick it up at a charityshop although Dh did get me a coat from boden for Christmas.

BelleDameSansMerci · 01/01/2011 23:24

Oooh, I think I'm a spiralist meritocrat... How, erm, interesting?

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 01/01/2011 23:26

I have lots of Boden but I am very far removed from the proper middle class.
