to be curious to know how many of us are middle class mothers who wear Boden?

I always enjoy the wide cross section of opinions, attitudes and experiences on Mumsnet. But other media seems keen to present Mumsnet as white middle class Boden adorned mothers.

I know I'm not, but how many of us are? Grin

Sorry if this has been asked before, but couldn't find anything in the older threads.

I refuse to perpetuate the class system by identifying myself with any section of it. I don't wear Boden because I just don't like the style of their adult clothes.

stoppinchingthedummy · 01/01/2011 22:01

yea but really can someone tell me in the year of 2011 what is classed as middle class?

1234ThumbScrew · 01/01/2011 22:03

I'd love to be in a quiche, but middle class it'd have to have side sals with rocket and a balsamic drizzle Grin.

1234ThumbScrew · 01/01/2011 22:03

Sodding I pad - side salad

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 22:04

or perhaps a bit of cod with it

nothing like cod in a quiche.

BaronessBomburst · 01/01/2011 22:05

Goats cheese.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 22:05

oh if you have an ipad you are a new middle class then right? or, working class with a credit card Wink

BootyMum · 01/01/2011 22:05

Yes to Boden, Cath Kidston and Emma Bridgewater Blush
I am officially a middle class cliche...

But in my defence also very much enjoy charity shop shopping and TK Maxx.

AMumInScotland · 01/01/2011 22:05

I'm white and a mother. I'd probably be called middle-class (professional, home-owner, university educated, child of other university educated home owners) though I never recognise myself in any description of how I supposedly live my life or the attitudes I'm assumed to have.

I had never heard of Boden till I joined Mumsnet, and have never even looked at their catalogue, let alone bought anything from them.

another one signing in for white , middle class mother but not a whiff of Boden around here.

missismonky · 01/01/2011 22:07

I am white and a mother. I used to be middle class, at the moment I'm not quite sure what I am . Didn't wear Boden then, still don't now. Some of their stuff is nice.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 22:08

well, i guess, in answer to the actual question. who knows?

Is Boden the definition of middle class?

1234ThumbScrew · 01/01/2011 22:14

Surely Cod would go m'oldie.

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 01/01/2011 22:16

That's ok onepiece I have enough CK for both of us. You can do the Emma Bridgewater stuff Xmas Grin

newyearsheave · 01/01/2011 22:17

White - yes
Middle Class - no. If I had to 'class' myself I'd say white collar working class.
Boden - never heard of it until I came here. wear mostly Matalan and BHS with the odd bit of New Look thrown in for good measure.

I think its just handy for the press to be able to categorise the site.

Compared some other forums it does come across as the posters being (dare I say it) more educated. But then again I've not come across a thread on here yet where someone has posted to start a chat with other mums who enjoy a fag during pregnancy like I have on other sites. (No kidding).

If the price to pay for that is someone assuming I'm middle class and Boden wearing, so be it. Could be worse.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 22:18

Not if guzzled quickly with fruitshoot some nice expensive wine.

scottishmummy · 01/01/2011 22:19

NEVER worn boden, never heard of it til mn.dont fancy it

despise cath kidston.eugh so contrived esp the twee flowery bags

nilbymaaf · 01/01/2011 22:19

middleclass: yes, but poor
white: no
Boden: definitely not

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 22:21

it really does all depend on what system of class we are using to define middle class though.

I am graduate level educated, but without the salary to match that according to 'middle class'. I own a property above x figure but also a debt to match that value. I have no disposable income, and reside in a single income family yet i shop in 'nice' shops for my supper. So whether we use the whole social grading system or any of the newer systems will mean I sit differently in the notion of middle class/working class depending what I use.

FrancesFarmer · 01/01/2011 22:22

Middle class - yes.

Boden - not for me, not my style but I find that their children's clothes are good quality.

So now you know.

Slambang · 01/01/2011 22:25

yes
