as a christmas present .... Not my main Xmas pressie - part of my stocking ...
Am IBU to feel that he sees me as sexless and pretty unattractive ? I'm only 38 FGS!
I have recently had a baby so am very self conscious about my body and whether he sees me as woman or mummy .. But still ...

A SLANKET ????? Sad

yanbu

slankets are for slobs

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 01/01/2011 12:35

My mother bought me a slanket. I bought her a wetsuit. We are both delighted. It's possible there's something wrong with either or both of us. :)

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 01/01/2011 12:40

He sounds like a lovely husband, OP. A Coach handbag, and something to keep you cosy in the depths of winter when you're stuck on the sofa feeding a tiny baby in the wee hours. Awwww. he clearly went to a lot of trouble.

But can anyone tell me what a slanket has, technology-wise, over a dressing gown worn back to front?

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 01/01/2011 13:08

panettoinydog, the OP had a baby 7 weeks ago, i think she is allowed a little slob time, no?

YankNCock · 01/01/2011 13:14

My mom knitted me a giant wool poncho for Christmas. I am using it as a slanket (sticking my hand out through the neck to use the remote!).

3beagles · 01/01/2011 13:16

I have one (DH got if for xmas last year).

Love it.

schroeder · 01/01/2011 13:23

Thanks for that beagles gave my dcs a right laugh to hear the swearing coming from Mummy's netbookHmm

I'm sort of tempted by the slanket, but I think I'll stick to my lovely blanket. I would not have found it an insulting present btw.

TheVisitor · 01/01/2011 13:27

Methinks that someone needs to get over themselves after their husband has thought of their warmth and comfort and she has a hissy fit. Think yourself lucky, you've been spoilt bloody rotten!

Nux · 01/01/2011 14:16

My DH bought me a Slanket for Valentine's Day. He meant it sweetly as I like to snuggle on the sofa under a blanket when it's cold of an evening. I felt exactly like the OP. Other people get sexy underwear for Valentine's Day. I got a Slanket. I felt that he just didn't think I was attractive at all. Sad

GrizzlyMacDuff · 01/01/2011 14:29

DH was advised several months ago when these slanket things started to appear that if he got me one, or one of those all in one things, i would leave him - he got the idea i don't really like them Grin

QueenSconetta · 01/01/2011 14:50

I would love a slanket and I'm only 29. Its funny how people's feelings about things are different, I wouldn't thank him for overtly sexy underwear cos I would feel uncomfortable prancing around in it given how I feel about my post natal body!

SmokinSanta · 01/01/2011 15:24

My ex-H bought me a slanket this year from the kids. Apparently it was DS1's (4) idea. Was not offended at all - in fact have worn it most evenings since!!

YABU, I'm only 28 Grin

amberleaf · 01/01/2011 15:28

I got one from my mum last christmas, at the time i thought hmmm thanks mum Hmm

BUT its fab! i love it and everyone else in the house always wants a go too.

FairhairedandFrustrated · 01/01/2011 15:42

My dh bought me this

Oh how I would have loved a Slanket....

I'm 32 & no glamma mamma!

SylvanianFamily · 01/01/2011 16:18

A) your dh sound sweet. Give him the benefit of the doubt

B) Have you considered that maybe he is feeling in the mood to be a homebody, cuddle up on the sofa with a DVD, keep home fires burning now that he's a father?

I remember when (during a patch we weren't getting on so well) DH suggested we shopped for 'nice underwear'. After a bit of bemusement, we figured that when I was hearing 'basque and suspenders to make our own blue movie' he had in mind 'lovely smart pjs that we can stay in all day Saturday enjoying each others company, and not feel awkward if the postman knocks'.

piprabbit · 01/01/2011 16:28

ROFL @ SylvanianFamily and the nice underwear.

I think OPs DH sounds lovely. Maybe he is channelling his caring, nurturing and tender feelings about new parenthood into giving OP a fleecy and moveable nest?

boodleboot · 01/01/2011 17:17

i love this thread...its hilarious....Grin

i got a slanket last year and DH was thrilled he had found a type of blanket that i didn't already have in the house.....we are a deffo blanket loving family....we all have at least 3 ( and there are six of us!!)

i do think you are overthinking it but as another lady who has recently given birth i can empathise with the whole 'what is my place now' feeling....truth be told i should imagine is that you are his darling wife, mother of his new darling baby and he just wants you to be warm and snuggly whilst you are making his baby warm and snuggly....Smile

musicmadness · 01/01/2011 17:27

YABU - I'd love to have gotten a slanket as a xmas pressie, and I'm quite a bit younger than you! There great Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/01/2011 17:56

My SIL and I laughed at one of the top tips in a magazine years ago telling you to 'sew the arms off a jumper onto a blanket in order to keep you warm reading in bed.' Seems Mr Slanket must have been reading too - missed a millionaire opportunity there!

TrillianAstra · 01/01/2011 18:01

Doesn't a slanket say " middle aged slobbing on the couch woman who has let herself go completely "?

Oooooh, you'll get slated now, loads of MNers have and love their slankets.

The stirring mug is excellent, all vortexy with a big sucking noise.

FellatioNelson · 01/01/2011 18:31

Oh well, Happy New Year's baby
We could learn to love the slanket if we give it a few days
Or we could simply pack our bags
And catch a plane to Barcelona cos this slanket's a drag
Take a holiday in Spain
Leave my wings behind me (stick your arms out Duritz fan - you know the drill Wink)
Flush my slanket down the drain
And fly away to somewhere new.

ScatterChasse · 01/01/2011 18:35

I'm sure he just wanted something nice and cosy for you because it's been so cold. I think you should enjoy sitting all snuggled up in it with your baby Smile

Btw, what's the 'sl' for? I suppose the 'anket' is like blanket, but I'm not sure about the 'sl' (hopefully not slob though because I quite fancy one)

thebountymuncher · 01/01/2011 18:45

It was a nice thought, they look great, I'd like one!

ScatterChasse, I'm guessing the Sl is for sleeves?

thebountymuncher · 01/01/2011 18:46

I hope not slob too, though even if it was it'd not put me off! because I am one

moondog · 01/01/2011 18:59

What do you do with it when it is not in use?
Does it sit there just being annoying and ugly?

I'd rather die than put on a Slanket.
