Peed off with Amazon

I placed 2 orders with Amazon on 5th Dec that have still to turn up. The estimated delivery dates were 10th and 14th Dec (not sure why 4 days apart when I ordered them half an hour apart). I e-mailed them yesterday to say they hadn't turned up and got the standard e-mail saying wait until 20th/21st Dec. If they have not arrived by then they will either resend but state I won't receive until after Christmas or will give me a full refund. To add salt into the wound, I received an e-mail today reminding me about the last date for Christmas orders!

I am seriously annoyed as I think their response is crap. I don't understand why they can't offer free next day delivery in these instances.

Not sure if I have any rights to receive my order within the advertised time?

Surely if you get the original item after the substitute has arrived you tell Amazon and let them send someone round to collect it?

I ordered several items, all in stock, on 4th December. Still not arrived.

I can track the parcel and it's been dispatched from Gourock, so no surprise there are huge delays.

Luckily it's mostly stocking fillers so no great drama if it doesn't arrive. But still it's a pain.

I went to our Royal Mail sorting office the other day because I am waiting on two items - one estimated for delivery on 10th and one on 13th. I thought it not beyond the bounds of possibility that they had tried to deliver while we were out and forgotten to put a card through the door (it has happened before)

Anyway when I asked if they had anything for my address the man in the office immediateky said "Is it from Amazon?" When I said yes he told me they had had 2000 items that day alone that had turned up from Amazon as they seemed to have a huge backlog.

He reckoned the problem was that the delivery estimates they were using were the same as they usually use but at the moment they just can't keep to those.

Imagine a knitted hot water bottle cover. Now just enlarge it, even out the edges, and you have a cushion.

I am indeed in possession of some knitting skills.

Looks like there's a few of us with Amazon problems - I just started a thread that said similar!
