Peed off with Amazon

bubaluba · 16/12/2010 21:39

I placed 2 orders with Amazon on 5th Dec that have still to turn up. The estimated delivery dates were 10th and 14th Dec (not sure why 4 days apart when I ordered them half an hour apart). I e-mailed them yesterday to say they hadn't turned up and got the standard e-mail saying wait until 20th/21st Dec. If they have not arrived by then they will either resend but state I won't receive until after Christmas or will give me a full refund. To add salt into the wound, I received an e-mail today reminding me about the last date for Christmas orders!

I am seriously annoyed as I think their response is crap. I don't understand why they can't offer free next day delivery in these instances.

Not sure if I have any rights to receive my order within the advertised time?

yup that's it shabba

rather than still insisting the stuff is arriving, when it obviously isn't

then sending an email to every customer saying 'ORDER NOW AND GET YOUR STUFF BEFORE XMAS' when it's blatantly obvious they haven't fulfilled their November orders yet!

Telling lies on your website is never very good PR.

This isn't about patience as much as being told something that isn't true!

juneybean · 16/12/2010 22:25

And yet a delivery managed to get here from jersey (play.com)

foxinsocks · 16/12/2010 22:25

I wasn't that fidgety till I read this thread

I feel positively militant now

I am going to take to the streets and get kettled

panettoinydog · 16/12/2010 22:26

Lots of snow in jersey then? Wink

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 16/12/2010 22:26

Royal Mail managed to get to me throughout the snow the other week (not too badly affected here) and my postie is fantastic. But I just ordered stuff from Amazon today because of the "last order date" update. Which says that, although things may be delayed by a couple of days, they will get through in time for Xmas, unless it says otherwise when you order. I'll be very pissed off if they don't - not because any of it is the end of the world, but because I too am a very regular customer, use "prime" and don't like to be misled.

wannaBe · 16/12/2010 22:26

legally, if amazon has dispatched the orders they are no longer actually liable for them if they don't arrive.

If it says on a website that the expected delivery date is 3-5 working days then tbh you should expect some delay as clearly the order is coming from somewhere other than just amazon's usual warehouse given that most orders are next-day.

I am a prime customer and all my orders have been dispatched within the normal timeframe for expected next-day delivery. They have all taken 3/5 days to arrive because of the delays with royal mail/city link.

If amazon are dispatching their orders in time then they have no reason to know that the orders aren't being delivered - the parcels are sent to the couriers on the understanding the orders will be delivered. It's not amazon's fault that the couriers aren't delivering promptly; equally it's not amazon's responsibility to advise of potentially delayed service on the part of their client (the courier).

juneybean · 16/12/2010 22:26

That annoying thing is, the thing I'm awaiting is my one present from my mum (I ordered from my account as it's easier for her)

So I could well be presentless Grin

backwardpossom · 16/12/2010 22:27

shabba on the Amazon.co.uk homepage, there is a link at the top right (albeit a very small link underneath the bit that says order now for Christmas) called "Info on weather-affected deliveries"...

panettoinydog · 16/12/2010 22:27

I ordered one thing via amazon but shipped by another seller (royal mail too). Got here in a couple of days. The huge volume of amazon stuff is obviously dragging them down.

juneybean · 16/12/2010 22:27

Well they both would come by Royal Mail panettoinydog Confused

juneybean · 16/12/2010 22:28

Sorry that was to your previous comment...

hogfather · 16/12/2010 22:28

i ordered some books on Amazon and Waterstones on 26/11 coming by Royal Mail and neither have turned up yet.

I also ordered something on Monday 13/12 on Amazon which said would be with me 14/12 and still havent appeared.

Luckily all presents for adults and not DS!

PercyPigPie · 16/12/2010 22:29

I was just about regaining confidence in Amazon after their spectacular f**k up a few years ago. I had tiny children and, for ease, placed virtually all our Christmas presents on an Amazon order in early October. They kept delaying the delivery date until they eventually told me much of it would arrive in January! It caused me so much hassle I haven't used them much since. Sad do see not much has changed.

bubaluba · 16/12/2010 22:29

backwardpossom - I will fight my way into town with a 2yo and 5yo to get a replacement because I don't trust that another order will turn up on time.

I'm not completely unreasonable, I get the whole weather, Christmas etc but I do as others have pointed out get cross when Amazon are still chasing sales by sending out e-mails about ordering before Christmas if they are aware of a backlog. Retailing, wither on line or through a bricks and mortar store is about building long term customer relationships. Customers like to feel they can trust their retailers and I know I will think twice about ordering direct from Amazon next December.

I placed an order on Amazon last Thursday night for an item that was dispatched by another company and had it by Monday morning. I was quick to complete the feedback request because I was delighted with the service.

But Amazon are advising of delays. And they are saying that despite these delays deliveries will arrive before Christmas - in fact the use the word "guaranteed" despite the fact that they are clearly (going by their email response) offering no such guarantee.

They are underestimating the delays and it's hard not to suspect that its to encourage further orders before Christmas, and yes they are a business so I guess anything goes but not exactly good customer service.

classydiva · 16/12/2010 22:31

Amazon non receipts work the same irrespective of which time of year it is, they make no special arrangemens because it is Christmas. If it was real important the items arrived you should have purchased elsewhere or from the High Street.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/12/2010 22:32

It might not be Amazon's fault if the couriers aren't delivereing but they are responsible for choosing an adeqaute courier firm. I've ordered stuff from Tesco, Asda, Play.com and an online pet shop and ebay in the last week and they've all turned up. The stuff I orderd from Amazon oevr 2 weeks ago still isn't here.

sb6699 · 16/12/2010 22:33

I think the problem is Citylink. I booked a courier on Monday to have something collected today. On their website it was saying "scheduled for collection" up until 4.30 pm today when it changed saying that I had cancelled it.

I hadnt, its just that they are so behind they are no longer collecting anything.

I had a major fiasco last year with something I had ordered from Amazon. It was due to be delivered 16th December but kept changing. It had been despatched to Citylink and when I phoned them on Christmas Eve they assured me it was on a van and would be with me before close of business - it wasnt!

JeezyPeeps · 16/12/2010 22:33

Crikey! Just be thankful you don't live here! We get essential supplies (basically all food and groceries apart from limited local milk, eggs, meat, bread, most mail (other than local) up by boat.

Due to high winds the boats could not leave/dock in Aberdeen for a few days. Then just as they were about to resume normal service, one of them was damaged by another ship, so was out of service again. Then the first lot of snow came, which disrupted the deliveries TO Aberdeen to get to the boat. We have had a 'normal' week, although certain things - fruit, veg, bread in particular - have been in short supply. The boats are cancelled again due to high winds (the boat, by the way, is classed as a lifeline service) and there is a lot of snow/drifting and much more snow forecast for tomorrow.

And yet this is nowhere NEAR the worst disruption I can remember. The worst I can remember clearly was a month with no ferries - you can imagine how little was in the shops by the time they restarted - and that was food/essentials.

The world will not end if your deliveries don't get there on time. If there is so little in the way of poor weather where you are, I am sure the majority of people can access shops and get suitable alternatives, and send back the orders once they arrive. Yes, it is an inconvenience and extra hassle, but it is only that.

conkie · 16/12/2010 22:35

It says on the website that deliveries may be later than stated due to the weather. It is hardly Amazons fault if the parcels have been dispatched. I am waiting on a delivery as well and when I saw that it was Royal Mail delivering, I just knew it wouldn't turn up on time. I come to expect that from Royal Mail now, even in glorious weather.

backwardpossom · 16/12/2010 22:36

Yes, perspective.

foxinsocks · 16/12/2010 22:36

lol more Scots! you and your darned patience

it is just annoying, no-one is claiming it's the end of the world. We are all just very used to nice convenient deliveries and we were all promised delivery several weeks ago. It is even more annoying when one of you works during the week, and your partner works weekends which makes shopping (ie. having to go with all kids to the shops), an absolute living hell.

hogfather · 16/12/2010 22:39

my problem is that only one of my orders has actually been dispatched - the order on 13/12 has been confirmed as dispatched but the one placed in Nov I am still awaiting an email advising it is on its way.

And that was BEFORE the snow grrrrh Angry

juneybean · 16/12/2010 22:40

But they've took the money, so how can we possibly buy another one when they won't refund the card no doubt until I'm absolutely sure I haven't received it Hmm

panettoinydog · 16/12/2010 22:43

Here's an idea. Why don't you tell us what you are waiting for and we'll tell you if you can do fine without it Grin

Me: a 'Santa' present for dd2 (12)
a christmas dvd that I want to use at home and school
a book for me
