...not really family viewing? I've barely watched x-factor in my life but I had thought everyone said that, for all its faults, it was something that had got families watching telly together. I was expecting wholesome boy bands and gutsy young girls. Clearly I'm naive and a prude.

HBB as I've posted before, a lot of people who are VERY selective about what their children watch let them stay up for this because as was pointed out on radio 5 last night, the x factor final DID NOT have form for this sort of thing, previous final performances were far more conservative so people did not expect what they saw. Lots of people who do not let their kids watch the news, soaps, or music channels selected x factor as suitable viewing and were let down. I don't agree with the soaps showing very adult themes before the watershed either, but just because others are doing it DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT and at least with the soaps you know to avoid them

If you don't think its aimed at children then why were the finalists sent to do PAs at their own primary schools on front of crowds of screaming kids eh? OF COURSE x factor targets a family audience, they sell x factor masks with the littel girl's hair accessories in Tescos! don't tell me they are aimed at adults!

oneortwo · 12/12/2010 11:42

MsSparkle, CA has been gyrating to her heart's content on music channels and post watershed tv programs for years and I've never called her a whore or complained to ofcom about her before (I'm not calling her a whore now, just complained to OFCOM). you are missing the point. you are obviously a big fan, which you wouldn't be had she not already had the freedom to show her act to a wide adult audience. The problem is her now showing an uncensored version to an audience made up of a large amount of children! (and not just her, also the producers etc)

MollieO · 12/12/2010 11:42

The point about doing PAs at primary schools is a good point. It clearly shows who their target audience is and makes last night's behaviour even worse. I complained to Ofcom last night having watched CA's performance on youtube. I've never complained to Ofcom before.

MsSparkle · 12/12/2010 11:46

I have read the thread. There are lots of comments saying female singers are trying to be fuckable etc.

So itv haven't actually said it is a family show? Just a person on this thread? So itv are getting stick for something they might not have actually said, that x f is a family show? jeez.

Its not even just a singing contest, hence the title x factor! Its about finding someone with the whole package.

Strictly is on earlier then x f and some of the costumes and dancing is much more raunchy. So why hasn't anyone complained about that? Patsy kensit doing her sexy intro on there at 6pm in the evening. No complaints?

MsSparkle · 12/12/2010 11:53

I fell in love with christina when she came out as a teeny bop pop princess back in the days of her very first album. It was her voice I fell in love with, there was nothing sexual in her performances back then.

She only became sexual when she turned 21 and brought out her album stripped.

She didn't become famous by being sexual, it was a voice first. The sexy stuff came a few years later.

MollieO · 12/12/2010 11:53

I posted a link to ITV media which states the audience target is 'Female, Young'. All their marketing is geared to young people and why allow contestants to visit primary schools if they don't want primary school aged children to watch? Xmas Hmm

oneortwo · 12/12/2010 12:01

MrsSparkle what an earth has that got to do with how appropriate her performance last night was for a pre watershed audience?

we get it, you heart her! why can't you get that not everything adults do is suitable for a young audience?

cordelia28 · 12/12/2010 12:07

It was repeated this morning!! We flicked on to it by accident 10am!

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 12/12/2010 12:13

Did they edit the repeat?

cordelia28 · 12/12/2010 12:21

I don't know I flicked over really quickly as dd (6) was sitting with me although she was going on and on about that was the x factor pleeeease can we watch it mummy! (lots of her classmates do) luckily dh and I had seen it last night and I'd been following this thread - was appalled so a DVD went instead!
Was it edited? If not 10am on a Sunday morning is even more
Concerning than 830pm as many more children wod be watching tv unsupervised?

Limara · 12/12/2010 12:24

Both my children( DS13, DD 8) were watching MTV last saturday DAYTIME and watched these two gems:

WTF is going on in our society? Angry

MsSparkle · 12/12/2010 12:35

"you are obviously a big fan, which you wouldn't be had she not already had the freedom to show her act to a wide adult audience."

I was responding to that and just trying point out that Christina first came on the scene as a child friendly, teeny bop, pop star. She didn't come out as some over sexualised pop star. She was actually very child friendly so to speak.

It wasn't until 3 years later that she became sexual. Her performance last night was promoting Burlesque. Whether or not her perfomance was child friendly isn't up to her. She was just performing her act and it was up to ITV to decide whether or not it was for pre 9pm viewing or not.

The artists didn't choose the time they were on, they just come and did the performances they were booked for.

bitsyandbetty · 12/12/2010 12:39

Can I just remind people that in strictly Dancing all the men are taking off their tops to show off the pecs and that is family viewing as is Gavin kissing Bruno. This is no different to me.

MollieO · 12/12/2010 12:43

Of course her performance is up to her. She knew the time she would be performing. She chose her routine and the producers allowed her and Rihanna to do what they wanted to do. Interesting that Rihanna wears more clothes doing late night tv in the US than she does on primetime UK tv.

MsSparkle · 12/12/2010 12:45

"Can I just remind people that in strictly Dancing all the men are taking off their tops to show off the pecs and that is family viewing as is Gavin kissing Bruno. This is no different to me."

That is no different to me either but it seems it's ok if it is men doing it.Hmm

MollieO · 12/12/2010 12:45

Dancing without your top isn't the same as simulating sex!

bitsyandbetty · 12/12/2010 12:46

Cheryl Cole wore pants when she last performed. To be honest the most sickening thing I saw last night was Robbie William's chest hair!

walkinginaWUKTERwonderland · 12/12/2010 12:47

Do people not get the difference between showing flesh and simulating sex?

MsSparkle · 12/12/2010 12:49

"Of course her performance is up to her. She knew the time she would be performing. She chose her routine and the producers allowed her and Rihanna to do what they wanted to do."

She was promoting a film with lots of dancing like that in it. I think the dancing was reflecting the film more then anything else.

When she is promoting her own albums, you don't normally see that sort of dancing by her. In fact, she doesn't do alot of dancing in her shows because her voice is her main focus.

bitsyandbetty · 12/12/2010 12:50

How would people feel if one of the contestants did caberet in stockings and suspenders?

MsSparkle · 12/12/2010 12:51

Imo Rihannas dancing was no more risque then that on Strictly, it's just a different "modern" style dancing.

walkinginaWUKTERwonderland · 12/12/2010 12:52

So you are saying MsSparkle she doesn't care about her audience, she's just in it for the money?

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 12/12/2010 12:52

I felt a faint tremor of desire at the sight of Robbie's chest hair Grin

Christina looked bloody gorgeous, but not being that way inclined, no tremors resulted.

claig · 12/12/2010 12:53

'it's just a different "modern" style dancing'

like the one at the lapdancing club?

MsSparkle · 12/12/2010 12:53
was the style in her last tour.
