cor. I haven't done AIBU for an age, but I am I know I am (bu) and need some get some get a grips and bridge rebuilding tips.

For the last 3 years I have donated a decorated Christmas cake to the school Christmas fair raffle.

Last night I get an e-mail asking for its weight as THE PTA POWERS THAT BE have decided to put it into a 'guess the weight of the cake' comp and not in the raffle.

I know, OUTRAGEOUS isn't it? Man they have a nerve.

So I sent a few hoity e-mails.

Then I went to bed and had a lemsip and now have realised I am a giant precious-cake arse.

Hijack - love the cake-related xmas name Pointy Xmas Envy

Much as I hate to say it, it appears an image of the Big Purple One is burned onto my retina. Can you downgrade to a delicate frosted lilac?

Slubberdegullion · 03/12/2010 20:18

panettoiny (once again the BEST christmas name change ever! how do you do it? you get my vote if you're in the comp)

I had 3 cakes in the gaffe today. One now is the purple marvel/monstrosity, the second one is ...well the second one and the last one is still all wrapped up in a cupboard.

How are you churning out these cakes so fast? Shouldn't the fruit be steeping in pure alcohol for hours and hours? I think you might be in danger of cutting corners, you know. All that purple/ecclesiastical glory has distracted you.

activate · 03/12/2010 20:43

bramblebooks · 03/12/2010 20:47

I hope to cellophane at least for the rush. It depends on the level of hallucinations.

Btw, jack has started laying eggs and they have green shells. I should deliver them to you with some ham.

panettoinydog · 03/12/2010 20:47

hoi, hedge. I think slubber made these cakes weeks if not months ago

Slubberdegullion · 03/12/2010 21:03

yes panettoiny is of course quite right. These cakes have been living in a cupboard for quite some time now.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/12/2010 21:47

oh that is larvely

Does the marzipan say God Bless the PTA or God strike down the PTA? Grin

panettoinydog · 03/12/2010 21:56

slub, tis lovely.

How do you put the icing on so that it is smooth down teh side? Do you put it on in a oner and somehow smooth it out or do you place a round on top and then a strip round the sides and blend in the edges?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/12/2010 22:00

I would lick my icing to get it that smooth

Sidge · 03/12/2010 22:01

You need a pedestal with spotlights, and an automatic cage that drops down with alarms going off if anyone touches the cake.

I like the purple.

And sparkly is even better.

It's like Pimp My Cake.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 03/12/2010 22:03

I know I'm late to this thread but, holy hell, that cake is really purple!

I'm inspired to perhaps venture beyond white icing myself this year...

SnowMuchToBits · 03/12/2010 22:15

Have just arrived at this thread. I think they are both lovely, and what you should do is offer original purple cake for "guess the weight" (btw I think it weighs 4lbs 5 oz or metric equivalent) but also let the new one be a raffle prize. Then your cakes will both have starring roles! Xmas Grin

Actually, I also think you should start another thread where we can all guess the weight of the cake......
