the horrible woman in this week's grazia who doesnt want kids because...

...she is scared of getting fat and ruining her figure and getting a -i can barely type these words- "bucket vagina" Hmm

aibu to think she is a silly shallow bitch and be really angry with her for peddling her horrible opinions in public? its up to the individual whether they want kids or not but what a nasty, shallow reason to not want them :( and how insulting to mothers reading that. she is a 35 year old woman who seemed reasonably intelligent, not some silly WAG-type 20 year old that one would maybe expect to hear this kind of shit from. Angry

does she not realise that she won't have her perfect body forever anyway, gravity catches up in the end regardless of whether she has kids or not. and i would rather have an "imperfect" body and my lovely kids any day. did anyone else read it? it made my blood boil.

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that. It's her body and if she'd rather keep is as it is than have children then fair play to her.

But who cares? I'm pretty happy with the way I look post 2 babies - her opinion of it all doesn't change that.

I don't really see what there is about one person's opinion to get so mad about. She's probably better off not having kids anyway! Wink

Um.. but if that's how she feels? Does she say anything derogatory about mothers, or just that she is scared of what will happen to her body?
If it's the former, then she's an idiot, if the latter then she's just telling the truth.

And fair enough.

I think wel done her for asking herself "Do I actually wanting children?" before getting pregnant. The world would be a much better place if more people actually thought before having children.

I agree with Mugglewump and Kaloki.

I mind, rather a lot, what has happened to my waistline since children. I weigh what I did before, but my waist has never gone back in. And I hated the wreck of my body for the year after having DD1.

I do love my kids, mind, but I would like my waistline back.

yeah she basically says that all mothers lose their looks and figure, she even cites julia roberts as a mother who has ruined hers by having kids...

everyones entitled to their opinions of course! and to not want children for whatever reason. but i dont see why she has to peddle her horrible derogatory comments in public thats all. and i personally think her particular reason is very shallow.

I think it is a common misconception that having a baby will ruin your body. I was scared of this happening when I had my first baby at 24, luckily it didn't and I certainly don't have a 'bucket vagina'....
I think she is just naive, even at 35!

I don't think it is necessary to have a well-thought out, or selfless, or high-minded reason for not wanting children, is it?

FWIW my reasons for wanting children were never any deeper than 'because I do'.

I was right. She may be too.

Grin Wish I looked like Julia Roberts after my 2! Buthonestly, if she's shallow enough not to want kids for reasons like those then she's probably doing the world a favour because she wouldn't be a very good parent.

Ah ok, slagging off others is pathetic.

Though her reason for not having kids is as valid as any other. She just has different priorities to some of us. She should be aware that she can't judge others by her view of life though. So on the basis of that YANBU :)

When I was pregnant and voiced my concerns about my body shape changing to a friend she told me she thought I was too immature to be having a child Hmm

It's wierd to not want children because of that and that alone but I suspect people who say this have deeper reasons for not wanting children and at the end of the day it's up to her.

I cant comment on being fat I was on the larger side before having children im still there now.

On the bucket thing...with my foirth baby when i was pushing the midwife was examining me and said to a roomful of people including a aneasthetist and a cardiologist ( long story) that " the vagina is jut hanging open look there's no resistance at all". To which i replied " well ive had 4 childen with out so much as a graze so take you freakishly small vagina elsewhere" or words slightly ruder and more screamy to that effect

This reminds me of a (close) work friend who said that her (now) DH had said how pleased he was with her compared to his previous GF who had had three children, and so was not so tight down there.

I didn't point out that

1 - I have had three children and so obviously am in the same boat as the exGF

2 - I am just lucky that DHs dick is huge enough to make up for my failings Wink

I don't find it insulting just misguided, it is possible for lots of women to have a good figure after children.

I think it's good that people who don't want a baby for whatever reason are able to make that decision and not feel pressured into having a family. Let's face it, she's not going to be the best mother anyway if she's prioritising her body over having a child.

I was always a size 10 before I had DS but it was only a few years after he was born that I managed to slim down to a size 8 and then a size 6. I'm in better shape now than I was pre-child!

She's entitled to her opinion. Fair enough if thats what she thinks. It is kind of true. I don't know any women who says their body has come away completely unscathed after having children and I count myself amongst the lucky few who escaped stretch marks/sagging etc.

It is however, completely shallow and if I'd of felt like this before having children I'd never have gone public with it!!!!! I don't think she'll ever live it down with her Mummy friends!
