Libyan "stolen" children

Arthur62 · 06/11/2010 09:45

There seems to be a lot of hype concerning children who are living with their fathers' in Libya. Mothers' are claiming that these children are stolen but surely these children are just simply living with one of their parents. It happens all the time in England when the mother steals the children from the father.

Takes be back? Takes me back.

TerryB · 07/11/2010 13:40

This place is a joke.

narkypuffin · 07/11/2010 13:40

Clicky? Quichey surely. If you feed them they'll come back for more.

Now, has anyone found something good to remove limescale? The water is ridiculously hard here. It builds up on the shower tiles and I hate to think what it's doing inside the pipes.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/11/2010 13:40

Narky you need vinegar, vinegar and more vinegar! It's a miracle cleaner.

:)

CerysM · 07/11/2010 13:42

Fat? Old? Not either of those just yet Grin I am soooo tempted to retaliate in kind, but then I don't feel like lowering myself to that level just now. Would put me on a par with these lovely, eloquent types who think it's ok to take children away to another country illegally, and mess up their lives. See what cuddly guys they are?

TerryB · 07/11/2010 13:42

Yeah, that's about the best this place can talk about really. Cya.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/11/2010 13:45

Has the manly man gone? What a shame.

I shall cry myself to sleep tonight :(

Cerys you're gorgeous.

theevildead2 · 07/11/2010 13:45

Cya?

that takes me back

CerysM · 07/11/2010 13:45

Cya hun. Cum bak soon xxx

narkypuffin · 07/11/2010 13:45

Excellent. Can I use it on the kettle YKNOTC or will I end up with sweet and sour tea?

theevildead2 · 07/11/2010 13:46

Although I always added, "wouldn't wanna be ya" to the end. But I was 12

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/11/2010 13:46

Definitely use it on the kettle. It's the best. I even boil it in there to get it loose. It may take more than one go and the more vinegar you use the better, but after a couple of rinse and boils there's no residual taste.

:o

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/11/2010 13:47

Ooh I did that too. Even then I knew it was a bit knobbish, evil :)

narkypuffin · 07/11/2010 13:48

{grin]

narkypuffin · 07/11/2010 13:50

"I know you are but what am I" was also a classic

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/11/2010 13:51

Or the unbeatable, "that is sooooooooooo clever......NOT!"

moraldisorder · 07/11/2010 13:57

ha-ha I only got as far as flamgrilledmam's post. What a load of old bollocks, not as good at hunting as dad is..?! What?

Both mum and dad are equal at birth.. if one compromises the equality then by all means the other takes the lead as 'better' parent. It is no man's fault that he doesnt have a uterus..

Even if you were going to claim hierarchy because of your ability to breatfeed thats only what, 6 months?? Please.

My disclaimer is that Ive no idea what this program was about exactly. But in regard to children living with their fathers instead of mothers, I dont think its such a bad thing in a lot of situations. It seems in this country all you have to do is give birth in order to sit in an ivory tower of devine parenting glory while a man slaves away in the background being regarded as nothing but a bank account.

Oh dear, that turned in to a bit of a rant! Sorry, I'm just pissed off because my DP is always being reminded by his ex-wife that she is 'the parent' out of the two of them because she is the mother and they have a bond blah blah blah when her parenting skills are on a par with that of a giant cabbage.

TerryB · 07/11/2010 14:06

I wouldn't bother Moraldisorder. This place seems full of man hating bitches who have nothing better to do mate. it's quite a joke to see some of the posts. I even read a post about whether a man stands up when wiping his arse fgs. Mumsnet? Bitchnet more like.

moraldisorder · 07/11/2010 14:09

Oh, I wouldnt go as far as 'bitchnet' TerryB! I'm a MNer and not a bitch Grin

Its just one of those subject where people get very defensive... It is hilarious that some of these thoughts actually exist.. Men better at hunting and women better at nurturing HA! Tell try telling my kids that...!

CerysM · 07/11/2010 14:10

TerryB, in all seriousness, your level of aggression and misogyny is pretty alarming. No-one has been half as aggressive or abusive towards you. Tempting though it is.

Makes one wonder why some women would rather the father had no contact?

CerysM · 07/11/2010 14:11

And of course not every woman is better at nurturing or every man at hunting, but as a broad generalisation it's undeniably true!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/11/2010 14:13

Ah Terry, you didn't leave after all! Be still my beating heart! :). You came back for me!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/11/2010 14:15

I would like to see the statistic on how many children end up with their primary carer (regardless of sex) after a split. I imagine most do. Which would be right for the child (since it would maintain stability for them).

But then I've said this already.

Fibilou · 07/11/2010 14:18

Is TerryB Matthew Wright in disguise ?

deaconsmummy · 07/11/2010 14:22

I have just watched this documentary and I must say that it broke my heart so so sad. I dont know how anyone can come on here and say that these kids were not stolen !!!! They were taken without the permission of the mother which is wrong on every level as would be if it was other way around. No parent regardless of sex should be allowed to do this it is life shattering for both the children and parents as was visible on the programme. These men are calcullated and know exactly what they doing when they take the kids back to Libya as they know the law there is totally on there side. maybe the uk should enforce a law where no kid can be taken out of the country without both parents consent - something which countries such as Cuba and Dominican Repbulic do. Also on the point of a mother and child bond it is very strong but you cant take away the bond between father and son or father and daughter that is so ignorant.
