You always had the right to choose your sexual partner.
What feminists told you to do was have as many sexual partners as you like and disregard the negative consequences. Most hardcore feminists were lesbians living in a commune somewhere - so god knows why you took any notice of them.

Women are not and never will be men. We are better than them. As I said earlier, in your bid for freedom, and as you rejected men and all they stood for, you became male.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/11/2010 13:47

Nice to see DP spouting a load of ignorant drivel again, all's obviously right with the world.

For anyone momentarily taken aback this is a public service announcement to confirm that:

  • women have not always had the right to choose their sexual partner. In most cultures in the past and many cultures now the family have chosen a marriage partner, and choosing for yourself (i.e. running away or adultery) is punishable sometimes by death.
  • most hardcore feminists weren't lesbians living in communes, they were and are women with various sexual preferences living in anything from a mansion to a teepee, with their husbands/boyfriends/children/female partner/group of friends/brothers/ancient aunts.

Women are not "better" than men. This is sexist.

daftpunk · 04/11/2010 13:58

Women are (generally speaking) more understanding and compassionate than men, we have more empathy. that's what I meant. we need to hold on to those qualities and not become too hard and masculine.

Plus I'm talking about the UK, as that's where I live. different cultures in other parts of the world still have arranged marriages. I'm not going global here.

GrandhighBOOba · 04/11/2010 14:02

There are an awful lot of "oughts" and "shoulds" in this thread - women should not do this, should be ladylike etc. The underlying assumption is that women cannot be trusted to make their own decisions (are not bright enough to understand the consequences of their actions, poor dears), and therefore society should impose a code of conduct to protect them from the consequences of bad choices.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers. Daftpunk, feel free to be as ladylike as you like, but stop suggesting that your choices should be imposed on the rest of us, to protect us. Calling a women "slut" because she makes different sexual choices in her own life to yours, is seeking to control her through social condemnation. Women are thinking, rational human beings, and do not need protecting like children.

And if they want to use the word "cunt" then why the hell not? I suspect that those of us who wish to swear can cope with not being attractive to men like your DP.

earwicga · 04/11/2010 14:21

Ah, Laddette Culture. I remember those days when my cunt was particularly active very fondly :)

dp - please read Delusions of Gender. It'll blow your mind!

daftpunk · 04/11/2010 14:29

Will do earwicga - is it on Amazon?

earwicga · 04/11/2010 14:33

Yep - www.amazon.co.uk/Delusions-Gender-Science-Behind-Differences/dp/184831163X

It's very readable and also funny.

seeker · 04/11/2010 14:39

Oh, shit - I really want to explain the reasons why I hate the word cunt used as a swear word, but I am scared I'll end up on the same side of an argument as dp. Which would make my brain fuse.

My arguments are those of a radical feminist - maybe dp's brain would fuse at agreeing with me!

Mooos · 04/11/2010 14:42

I'm just wondering how old Dance in the dark is and assumed most people that posted on Mumsnet were quite mature - I'm obviously wrong.

earwicga · 04/11/2010 14:43

seeker - is it because the 'worst ever' swear word is 'female'? I get that argument but love using the word. I love that my vulva/vagina if called a cunt has such shock value :o Words only have the power we give them.

daftpunk · 04/11/2010 14:45

GHB;

I'm Sorry if I've offended you in anyway by using words like 'slut'. I just think it's a win - win situation for men that's all. What I'm doing, very successfully, is leading a life of freedom whilst retaining my femininity. I could have had 1000 lovers if I'd wanted them, but I knew from a very early age that was wrong for women. And it's what I'm telling my daughters. It's entirely up to you how you live your lfe and how many lovers you have, I would never try and stop you. I'd just have an opinion on your lifestyle. And I've no doubt you'd have one on mine....

DanceInTheDark · 04/11/2010 14:56

Mooos If you read the OP and my other posts properly you will see that it's a thread about a thread. Neither age nor maturity comes into it.

daftpunk

"but I knew from a very early age that was wrong for women" shame you were wrong then.

As for your three friends who had termination that was (probably) because they were stupid, contraception is readily available.

MoralDefective · 04/11/2010 16:37

DP said she had A friend who had three terminations before the age of twenty.
Maybe she WAS stupid.
Mabe she was uneducated in sexual health and contraception.
Who knows.

newwave · 04/11/2010 16:39

Moral, maybe the first time should have been a hint.

daftpunk · 04/11/2010 16:40

Ok earwicga, I've ordered the book - it better change my life - cost me £8.54....

PlentyOfPockets · 04/11/2010 17:21

"I just think it's a win - win situation for men that's all."

so ... we shouldn't enjoy ourselves because men will enjoy us enjoying ourselves too much? Confused What's wrong with a bit of all-round enjoyment? Would it be better to live in miserable celibacy cos at least then those horrid men wouldn't be getting any?

Just out of interest, how many partners do you think is ok and how many makes you a "slut"?

(and yes, it's an offensive word - how could you think otherwise?)

GrandhighBOOba · 04/11/2010 17:38

Um, DP, big assumptions there - I've been in a long term monogamous relationship since my teens, because it makes ME happy, it suits me. I however don't call people who make a different choice to me, because it suits them, a slut. It's the judgement that bothers me, that you "knew it was wrong for women." No you don't. You know it's wrong for you. You THINK it is wrong for others. And you think you are superior to them, and that they ought to be condemned by society and thereby controlled. And that, if I'm honest, is pretty offensive to me.

"You always had the right to choose your sexual partner."

I want to know what history books daftpunk has been reading Confused

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/11/2010 19:36

The Big Book of Happy Ladyland, Kaloki. Not read it?

Me neither Angry

JaneS · 04/11/2010 19:52

In the UK right now there are plenty of people who are prevented from choosing their sexual partner. I know well-educated, white British women whose families have gone all-out to stop them making the choices they wanted to make, and in one case (so far), doing so with great success.

Just sayin'.

Unrulysun · 04/11/2010 20:22

Feminist equals lesbian?

I've said it before, I'll say it again - this is a timewarp thread.

daftpunk · 04/11/2010 20:25

How many lovers is ok? I don't know - 5 ?

Anymore than 10 to 15 and you've gone mad Imo.

Look, it's really none of my business how many sexual partners you've had, and i'm genuinely sorry if I've upset or offended anyone. That was never my intention.

And no. I'm not a man....

PlentyOfPockets · 04/11/2010 20:32

haha I love the way you call people mad and say it's not your intention to offend people in the same post. Oh well, at least these bits makes sense ...

DP said: "I don't know" and "it's really none of my business"
