AnnieLobeseder · 03/11/2010 22:52

I don't like swearing in thread titles. Cos then the Internet Big Brother at work won't let me open it. Very annoying!

BonniePrinceBilly · 03/11/2010 23:33

At least we've finally worked out who Claire Khaw is then. Feminists, check, Islam, check, single mothers, check, sluttish women breaking down society, Bingo!

Fucking lol at being told how to be feminine and lady-like by the likes of bnploving Daftpunk.

MoralDefective · 03/11/2010 23:39

Blimey BPB...bit harsh dontcha think..?

newwave · 04/11/2010 00:05

daftpunk, "sleeping around makes you a slut" sorry but your wrong, in my youth I "slept around" and treated it as a laugh/good time/sport. A good fuck/shag is to be savoured like a good meal, dosent matter who the chef is. If you get pregnant or catsc an STD that is because your stupid or bloody unlucky.

That said under most circumstances cheating on a partner is wrong imo

NetworkGuy · 04/11/2010 01:14

"women with morals in the gutter"

I don't think that can be blamed on feminism, but a general trend in society, of

  • the rise of the 'ladette',
  • the rebellious nature of teenagers,
  • the availability of cheaper alcohol,
  • the growth of things like "sand, sea and sex" holidays from Club 18-30 (is that still going?)
  • and the "MTV generation" where people do what they want, with whom they want, buy what they want (including drink, drugs, and revealing clothes) and heaven help anyone who criticises them once they hit (say) 18 (often? younger), because it quickly becomes "none of your business what the fuck I do".

Perhaps it has also grown with the situation where families split up more easily, and "respect" no longer seems "the norm" but the exception, or is that just the teenagers around this area ? (Not some 'leafy suburb'.)

Unrulysun · 04/11/2010 08:28

I believe the last Gropecunt Lane on the UK had its name changed in the mid sixteenth century.

The one in London was in the middle of a little area with other street names like Pokeskirt street.

:)

Networkguy;

Yes, but the "ladette" culture has evolved out of the feminist movements fight for "sexual freedom". There is absolutely nothing wrong in fighting for equal rights in the workplace/ ( although male dominated unions have fought for your rights too ) but that wasn't enough for feminists. They wanted women to have the right to " sleep around" . How is that "freedom". I had a friend who'd had 3 terminations before she was 20. Men can be very nonchalant about an unwanted pregnancy, it's the woman who has to deal with it. Leading a hedonistic life is not particularly good for women, sexually transmitted infections can lead to infertility and multiple terminations will undoubtably lead to mental Heath issues. women have to be aware that their bodies ( and minds ) are not the same as mens. There will never be total equality, because we are different. Men still think a woman who sleeps around is a slag. I'm sure feminists couldn't care less what men think of them, but it's the woman who ends up alone with 3 screaming kids while the man goes off and does what he likes.

Unrulysun · 04/11/2010 09:54

Please please please can we get back to 2010? I like it there; people don't use words like 'slut', 'slag' and 'tart' to describe each other.

cupcakesandbunting · 04/11/2010 10:09

Bunch of cunts.

PlentyOfPockets · 04/11/2010 11:35

DP :"Yes, but the "ladette" culture has evolved out of the feminist movements fight for "sexual freedom"."

I don't agree. I think Ladette culture emerged directly from laddish culture in the 90's - approx 30 years after the invention of the pill - and was largely media-driven. Also, equal rights in the workplace are worth bugger all without the ability to control one's fertility.

If, by "the right to sleep around" you mean the right to freely choose one's sexual partners, I'm pretty grateful to have that right. I look forward to the day when women who exercise that right are not called "slags" or "tarts" but if women are still using those terms to describe their sisters then we have some way to go.

I had plenty of partners before I settled down with DP, many more than he's had, but he doesn't think I'm a "slag". He finds it reassuring that I've already done all my running around and I know the grass is greenest on this side of the fence :)

Oh yes, and I was a single mum for a few years and it was fine. They were happy years.
