"I have often wondered why there are so many children in Waitrose wearing fairy wings and wellingtons with unbrushed hair."

MrsDevere, yes WHY IS THAT?

Waitress is the supermarket that makes me feel least homicidal. I am doing everyone a favour by not shopping anywhere else.

I loathe ASDA.

I shop in Sainsbury's, Morrison's, Lidl and Waitrose.

I used ASDA online for a few months. I bought pregnancy tests a few times and folic acid. Unfortunately nothing came of it but a very late heavy period. A few months later they e-mailed me with details of their Mother and Baby club thing. Cunts.

If you can afford waitrose, Harrods and M and S for food you have too much money and should be spending it on the poor and be ashamed of yourself end of.

Heard in Lidls just before Christmas
'Just a moment darling. I'll call you back later. Just at the checkout in Waitrose'.

PMSL

We shop everywhere except Sainsbos which is rubbish near us. Mostly Morry's, ASDA for loo paper, Iceland for cheap pizzas and Waitrose for cheese and fish.

Does that make us pretentious, or just people with WAY too much time on our hands?

Our nearest Waitrose is miles away. Probably just as well. When I attempted to buy some Emma Bridgewater cups the other day the shop assistant whispered to me "You do know they're £4 each" With my obviously working class looks I'm sure a claxon would go off the minute I set foot in Waitrose.

I must find a Waitrose. I've never been in one, and I worry I'm missing out on something important!

We are well served by all the others.

Asda....cheap, has everything, but bread rolls are crap. It's always busy so must be doing something right.

Sainsburys.....Bit expensive and the one nearest us only has a small car park. DH likes wine selection.

Aldi....We've shopped there for years even though some of DH old work friends wouldn't set foot in the place. Only problem I have is they don't do larger packs of breakfast cereal, and fruit and veg isn't great.

Tesco...I find money doesn't buy as much as say Asda. It's close to the university so full of students....don't go there during term time.

Morrisons....Fine. It has some good offers and bigger packs of some things.

Iceland.....cheap. I buy icecreams and some frozen veg there if I'm passing buy. I wouldn't make a special journey to shop there.

Netto...never seen one. Are they similar to Waitrose?

Netto=Waitrose Shock

Not exactly no. Netto is a downmarket Lidl. (bit like KwikSave if anyone can remember them)

I shop in Asda, (nearest) Sainsbury's (good pasta/ready meals) Waitrose (for the floaty fairy wing experience every so often) Tesco (only the new one they've just built, the city centre one makes you wipe your feet on the way out) Morrisons (good bread and BOGOFs) and M and S.

Waitrose, I love but cannot afford it so much anymore.
Sainsbury's....nice
Tesco.....depends where you go in Bristol, one is nice and one is super rough.
Asda....boak, vile food, terrible choice and rough shoppers.
Morrisons.....weird.

I would not shop in Asda it is chavey Grin

DP decided we were going to change from Tesco to Waitrose, and yes the stuff is nicer but ..

Tesco £100 = 9 or 10 bags of shopping
Waitrose £100 = 3 bags Shock

OK so the only thing they have in common is that I've never shopped in eitherGrin. Floaty fairy experience......I'm definately missing something!

M&S....They closed ours down. Always top price and a bit 'up it's self' I found.

Local villages have Budgen and Costcutters. I don't know how wide spread they are. They do nice bread and do have good offers occasionally. I always seem to be in there buying more milk.

Some of you are shopping at the wrong Asda!
'Tis good value stuff, and they have lots of check outs. They open them all when it's busy too. Tesco seem to have lots of men in suits wandering around and very few people working.

Tesco is not nearly as cheap as it feels. They're actually quite expensive for some items. We've moved on to Sainsburys for the things we used to buy at Tesco.

We also go to Aldi quite frequently. My husband is from Germany, and we shopped there quite a bit when we lived there. I don't understand the prejudice people have against it here, to be honest. Same with Lidl.

We've only been to Waitrose a couple of times. We don't have one close by. As I said before, though, we discovered that they stock Worcester sauce twiglets, so we do try to get there once in a while now. :)

Waitrose is our only convenient supermarket for a quick shop on the way home from work/nursery.

I loathe it. It seems to be full of people who are convinced that the only reason anyone else goes there is to admire their children. Seriously. Get your child off the conveyor belt. It is not cute, it is annoying, and the checkout lady is clearly considering topping herself if she has to pull funny faces at one more baby while a queue of about 50 people glare and seethe.

I think this might be a trait that is unique to our local Waitrose as all the others I have been in seem to be pretty normal.

Currently shop at Asda as am able to survive the hellish nature of it but plan to save my pennies so when I am a pensioner will be able to afford to potter around Waitrose.

You spoilt lot.

I would give my right arm for an Asda, swap DP for a Waitrose....

Try having to do your shopping at a horror warehouse the size of 3 footie pitches yet still has no tasty food. While giant Bayerische people humph and glare at you for not dressing your baby in 20 layers of clothes. Struggle at the till while an angry looking woman throws your shopping down the conveyor belt at you. Don't get me started on the Parent/child parking fiasco.

DP loves Asda, he can't believe how nice the workers are. Getting called Love, Pet and Hun... getting asked where he's from... getting his shopping packed. I'm going... its all too depressing!!

Whilst I will admit to the high level ponciness in Waitrose, they do good, ethically sourced meat (all pork for example is outdoor reared) at reasonable prices (free range meat at Tescos is £££).
Their own brand washing powder is shite.
It is my nearest supermarket so although I do my 'big' shops at Tescos I do go in there quite often. I am middle class but only own one item from boden (bobbly cardigan about 8yrs old) will never drive a chelsea tractor, work part time and my children have normal names so not sure if I fully qualify for pretentious twat.

I like waitrose, like the way they treat their staff and their suppliers, but Sainsos is nearer so we get out basics/dry goods from there.

I love the frozen chopped shallots and garlic. Good range of curry pastes. People watching.

"Come on Rufus, clap along.. We're going on a chinese cabbage hunt, we're going to find a BIG one.."

I am glad this father's children are not scared of chinese cabbage, but feel the hybrid literacy-vocabulary development activity could have been taken down a few notches, decibel wise.

I'm definately going to find my nearest Waitrose. I'm going to buy some of their shopping bags as well to prove it! Will I be ok to go in my jeans and zip up fleece?
