I have often wondered why there are so many children in Waitrose wearing fairy wings and wellingtons with unbrushed hair.

You just dont see that in Morrys.

I used to pop into the waitrose in Holloway rd and shout at my kids just to see the look on the other shoppers faces Grin

NOT ok to shout at your kid, IS ok to stand in the middle of the aisle blocking it whilst chatting to your mate whilst Hugo and Fleur throw star fruit at each other.

I know my place, stick to Morrisons where they sell pies.

I once saw a checkout girl in tesco nearly start a fight with a customer by accusing her of stealing some nappies. Was most exciting.

I wish I could shop at Chavsda. Waitrose is middle class hell every single week, my own DD is even being negatively influenced by shopping there.

Today she was running around shouting, "Mummy, mummy, they don't have any edamame beans".

YANBU - it's embarrassing!

Ewe - what a terrible affliction. Family therapy may be the only answer here

YAobviouslyBU and you know it. I shop in Waitrose and I am not pretentious. Who are we pretending to be anyway?

You don't wish you could shop at Asda really Ewe, I only go in for cat food. The bread is awful. IMHO of course.

I heart Waitrose. Officially the only place to shop on Christmas Eve, the staff were handing out Roses chocs and we even organised a spontaneous "baskets only" aisle in the true Dunkirk spirit*.

My local Asda, where I also shop regularly in a personality-conflicting kinda way, is fine. Lovely staff as well, and they actually stock quite a lot of local produce, which is good.

But of course I mainly use Ocado dahhhhhling.

  • not sure Dunkirk was entirely about paying for Christmas produce but you get the idea.

YANBU. It's overpriced and makes the people who shop there feel good about themselves (lots of midlife women, a bit like midlife men with a sports car). If anyone 'doesn't have a choice' then they live in a pretentious area! Get an Asda delivery van out!

Merry - are you large of stature/brain cell deficient by any chance? I'm conducting some research.......

I've just looked at waitrose online and the meat, vegetables etc don't appear to be any more expensive than in Tesco. £2.99 for a packet of minced beef seems about right,no?

Can a supermarket actually make you feel good about yourself? It can make you feel like suicide on a busy Saturday in the run up to Christmas, but can grocery shopping boost your happiness levels and self esteem? I

But it's soo lovely and cheap - I get a warm glow from knowing I've saved money, even if it is a bunfight.

DH won't go there. He goes to Sainsbury's or Waitrose when it's his turn to shop. But he had an au pair when he was little. Wink

The staff were handing out Roses (from their soon to be surplus stock) in Tesco's on xmas eve - but only one each. Not a whole box. Was it a whole box in Waitrose Wink?

I shop at them all - except Asda. But my mum works there so I can't be pretentious can I :o

I used to shop in Asda by choice before it was bought out by... you know... them. It's Morrisons all the way these days.

YABU- Waitrose is worth a visit for the recipe cards alone. Had three delicious meals in the last month from them.

Is it Annie? Shock So have they got a decent fish counter then (like Morrisons)? I don't have a local Asda (despite living in a ghetto).

Merry, no, just one (or two) each Grin Shocking to discover Waitrose are not, in fact, on another plane of existence - although did your Tesco spontaneously form a 'baskets only' aisle? I bet not. That kinda quality you only get in Waitrose Wink
