I loved living near York Northern Lurker, it's a fine place! What farm shop do you use? I found a fab one while I was there but I can't remember what it's called.

I miss shopping at Waitrose since we moved to Scotland - there isn't one anywhere near where I am. And Ocado don't deliver to my postcode either [deprived emoticon]. I liked the occasional visit to Waitrose because ours had lovely stationary and household stuff (duvets/ornaments etc) in as well as the food - and the cafe was nice too.

But going by VinegarTits' definitions, I am actually a chavvy, sometimes skint, middle class inbetweener with nowhere else to go, working class whore! No wonder I feel confused! Grin

I only shop in Waitrose occasionally as it's a fair way away although their are rumours they might be building one much closer to me - am I a pretentious prat only some of the time? Can't wait to go full time! Love Waitrose Grin

People so concerned about others' supermarket choices really need more stuff going on in their lives.

Missed the Asda thread. I would love to be able to shop in Waitrose but we do not have one. Sob.

I guess I grew up a manky chav, then - at least I can spell it, some of you. I hapen to think that Morrisons pies are excellent quality. Or at least, they were when I worked in Bolton. I went into a Waitrose this summer in Petersfield and couldn't believe what you can buy in there. Or the price.

I currently live the expat highlife in Bangladesh. Today I went to do the shopping and the man who runs the coconut stall in the market was shifting some produce around. The amount of giant cockroaches that ran across my feet as I bought my fruit and veg was beyond a joke. I almost got used to the soft patter of six tiny legs skittering across my Birkenstocked feet.

All I can really say is, think yoursleves bloody lucky you've got supermarkets, you bunch of moaners! When we come home to the UK my 'treat' is to spend an afternoon in a supermarket, any supermarket, where I stand and stare at the numbers of items on offer in stupified amazement.

Happy Diwali, MNetters.

And FWIW I have never met friendlier staff than in Asda. They actually look like they enjoy their jobs.

The difference is because Aldi and Lidl are such a find dahling! You wouldn't beleive some of the gorgeous stuff in there. You have to rub shoulders with some dreadful people but it just makes it all the more thrilling. And they have continental food so it's worth it.

MN is the resort of crashing snobs! It's a simple fact and you just have to accept it if you want to stay here. It makes me wince sometimes, but it's funny and a bit pathetic rather than a problem.

poshsinglemum -I think it is because they have other brands and good cheese and meat or something. I don't know I've never been to any of them.

also it makes me laugh at how asda is sneered at but lidll and aldi is middle class thrifty. sorry typos-1 handed.

Why is Asda chavvy exactlly? I have never got this. Because it's cheap? Why would we all want the expensive option in these tough times? In always shopped at Asda at uni and the food tasted fine to me.

I ddin't see the asda thread - there are a LOT of threads on here I haven't seen. Is it now required that one wades through every thread looking for sub text and references before posting? Hmm

why are people completely missing the point that this thread is in retaliation to the asda thread?? (where it was acceptable to sneer at asda shoppers??)

sorry know lots have said this but it seems to have gone about 400ft over people's heads :S

Well Waitrose has just opened in York and I went with dd3 last night for a few bits. Was very nice and I have greatly enjoyed my buttermilk pancakes for breakfast Grin We do a big online shop at Tesco every month but a lot of our other stuff comes from our amazing farm shop - I fear that definately makes me a pretentious prat!

That's no good then.

I need to letch at pantone mugs and aisles of pink silicone cookwear when I go to Waitrose.

No, GOML, Stroud one is pale shadow of Cheltenham one (as is Stroud in so many ways) - but more user-friendly if you're like me and drop in 2 or 3 times a week.

There's one aisle of kitcheny stuff.

I love Waitrose, a smaller but far better range of food and TBH a better more relaxed ambiance than some other supermarkets.
That said Tesco Finest lamb shanks are heavenly.

Whatswrong - totally agree with you on the friendliness of the people in Gloucester Asda, bless them.

HATE the green tokens for some inexplicable reason.

Is the Stroud Waitrose as nice as the Cheltenham one (in that it sells half of John Lewis kitchen stuff as well?)
