"...Asda shoppers are called manky chavs plenty of times on here..."
It's the correct form, you see....

well asda vs twatrose, who would win in a fight, there's only one way to find out......

but do you get Kotex in Asda??? I doubt it. Waitrose shelves are fit to bursting with them - nothing better post-partum!

are they incontinence pants? to reflect their clientele

Going shopping in Waitrose with 6 month old DD in a sling and 4 year old in trolley - shopping gets packed into bags, wheeled to the car and, packed away in the boot.

Do the same in Tesco and you have to rely on other customers to help when your wonky trolley goes completely awry whilst trying to manage load of shopping and aforementioned baby in sling and child.

YABU and an inverted snob to boot.

Lol at Ormirian's shibboleths.

Yes re Innocent I said that their all in one veg curry pots were a bag of shite, and for a company which bangs on about its eco and health credentials, the fact that you cannot recycle the pots is rather hyprocritical.

I was snarled at.

There was a thread about Jordan's daughter today and the shocking fact that she still had a dummy at the age of 3. There were some smart comments saying WHY on MN is a dummy at 3 (to sooth) is beyond the pale, however breastfeeding (to sooth) at the same age is perfectly acceptable. I was going to post that it is the difference between being viewed as a chav or as middle class, but thought I couldn't be arsed with the argument.

It's about choice. I am lucky and have the where withall to choose a more ethical supermarket over one that is less so. Ergo, I choose Waitrose or the Coop and choose to go nowhere near Asda and preferably not Tesco

We shop at both and love each equally for different reasons.

"well asda vs twatrose, who would win in a fight" - well Asda, clearly would be far superior at fisticuffs. Waitrose would write a stiff letter to it's MP re anti-social behaviour.

I shop everywhere. Bloody hate all supermarkets.

Oh god I LOVE waitrose. It's heavenly. The only whingeing kids at the checkouts are my own, the staff can't do enough for you and the aisles in our new one round the corner are HUGE. Bliss. Happy to pay a premium for the experience of it. :)

Actually - I have a Co-Op at the end of our road and their own brand stuff (in the black packaging) is all really nice. I tend to do main shops at Waitrose and then do odd shops for bibs and bobs at co-op and M&S.

I didn't realise I was a Chav until I came on Mumsnet and realised that by shopping at Asda I am beyond all redemption.
I genuinely didn't realise how people view the place. Am a tad gobsmacked, but as my budget doesn't stretch to Ocado deliveries and suchlike, I shall continue in my Chavvy ways in an attempt to provide food for 5 people on a very small amount of money.

I don't think I'd be allowed in Waitrose. I'm a Tesco gal when I can be arsed, otherwise Sainsburys online

I have over the years shopped at all the major supermarkets. Waitrose is by far and away the best in terms of service and quality. The staff are friendly and knowlegeable and extremely helpful. Definitely worth paying for - not that it costs that much more anyway.

The Innocent stuff is a croc of shite though.

I don't get it!!.. I shop where I get the most for my money.. makes sense surely?..and @ Sainsbury's because I get a discount Wink..I personally love a good market but its just not possible unless I have the odd day off...way more interesting and organic (not the food but the people)...

Inverted snobbery - the least logical prejudice around.

Am Shock at the people who get their shopping packed and wheeled to their car at Waitrose (shop at the Stroud one every week). Never seen it in the last several years I've been going there.

Last time I went to the Gloucester Asda (much slated on the other thread), the staff were chatty and helpful and offered to pack for me (and not as if they were doing me a huge favour).

One thing: does anyone else get irrationally irritated when they've still got half a trolley to unload, the belt is full and the checkout assistant says 'would you like me to start packing for you?'
Well yes, unless you think this lot's going to jump out the trolley and onto the belt all by itself.
Of course, being a Waitrose customer I trill 'ooh yes please - that would be a great help!'

miffyjane · 02/11/2010 22:13

whatswrong - your check out assistants need retraining. At our waitrose they get some one to unpack the rest of the trolley leaving you free to pack the scanned goods into your bags for life Smile.

The only thing that I worry about is will they remember to give me my green token? Grin.

I have shopping delivered from waitrose. [smug]

It isn't for the neighbours' benefit. They deliver for free if you spend over fifty quid. Even asda don't always deliver for nothing. [notreallysmug]

So now I'm thinking I should kick up a stink bring it up with the store manager, miffy?

Can't have standards dropping at our branch when everyone else gets the gold treatment.

Whatswrong - totally agree with you on the friendliness of the people in Gloucester Asda, bless them.

HATE the green tokens for some inexplicable reason.

Is the Stroud Waitrose as nice as the Cheltenham one (in that it sells half of John Lewis kitchen stuff as well?)

Report
newwave · 02/11/2010 23:31

I love Waitrose, a smaller but far better range of food and TBH a better more relaxed ambiance than some other supermarkets.
That said Tesco Finest lamb shanks are heavenly.
