talking to a beautiful Somali lady today(they all have hollywood smiles don't they, bloody genetic miracles!!) and she confirmed that whilst her 5 & 7 year old dds don't cover their heads she gets harassed and pressured by men at the mosque that her dds should cover. She said that whilst she doesn't because she loves her dds hair, other women do cover their very young dds. She said the men also say that unless they do it from very young they will not do it when they are the right age!

So it's not only about copying Mummy, just like the rise of the burka it's a renewed stick to beat women with.

So are you. English and British born are 2 different things which you are still not getting. Actually, a direct question to me was How Italian are you? It was questionning why I should consider myself Italian when I was born here. I know that, 100% know it.
To be British born, you don't need English blood, as I said I was British BORN myself. Not English. That is a very easy thing to understand, yet last night, nobody was hearing it, and now still, people aren't getting it. Myself, and many others I have spoken to, know the actual difference between English and British born. The only place this difference doesn't exist is Mumsnet. There is nothing I can do about that.

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 22:54

It's fine WB. I was like a coiled spring anyway, you just set me off Grin.
I am Italian blood heritage, British born, or nationality if you prefer.

winnybella · 19/10/2010 22:55

No, really, I am sorry Blush

I usually read the thread before jumping in...

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 22:59

No probs.

fastedwina · 19/10/2010 23:02

spikey

what is 'english blood'? 'English' as such is made up of all types of blood. There is no 'english' blood. People can be english but generally blood has nothing to do with it as the english are a mongerel nation (no insult intended'.

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:08

Tell that to English people. Go and insult them by telling them their identity means nothing. You can't do that. You can't argue with peoples identity, which is the core of who they are. Don't bother arguing with me, go and tell them. See what they say. I really think you should take it into RL. Then you will see what I'm saying.

clemetteattlee · 19/10/2010 23:11

Jesus, are you still on this one spikey? Not one person told you you were "English". You must stop this compulsive lying!
As for "you live in the real world so you know". Try working in inner city schools and huge hospitals for a taste of the real world (as well as growing up on sink estates in multicultural cities). Don't kid yourself that it is only you that is "street"

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:21

If you were "street" you would know that just because someone is born here doesn't make them English.
I was raised in Tottenham. I lived in a homeless hostel with asylum seekers from various places. Tell them they are English.

And as for compulsive lying, insinuating something is just a cowardly way of saying it. On this thread, people were trying to get me to accept their viewpoint. Which is that born here= English. That's what all the questionning was. Why are you Italian? Do you swear in Italian? What was the purpose of those questions then?
The reason I am here is because people are mentioning my name on here. And it isn't even my thread.

clemetteattlee · 19/10/2010 23:25

I don't genuinely consider myself to be "street". I didn't realise that grown-ups used the phrase without irony.

Bedtime (some of us have to be up in the morning to teach citizenship classes to those born elsewhere who are very, very keen to become formally British...)

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:26

I can't believe I've been told to get a taste of the real world. HA HA HA

clemetteattlee · 19/10/2010 23:26

For the last, final and hand-banging against the wall time, we all said born and raised here = British. No-one said born here = English, you daft sod.

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:28

And you can give it a rest TSC it was you that resurrected me Grin

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:30

The word English was used. You can't speak for everyone, only your own posts.
And if everyone agreed that British born wasn't English, what was all the fuss about?

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:34

Formally British. Not English. They won't all of a sudden turn English.

clemetteattlee · 19/10/2010 23:35

The fuss was about you being "insulted to be called English". It was about you feeling INSULTED. If I can't speak for everyone then perhaps you should go back and find the posts you are referring to, but you won't because that would undermine your perception of "implied" comments.
Last night I thought you were just having an off night but to come back again and have the same nonsense conversations has confirmed you as the nuttiest person I have EVER come across on MN.

Can someone else tell me, is it possible on MN to hide a poster even when you are interested in reading the rest of a thread?

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:36

I too put my "street" in speech bubbles. See, there's nothing to chip away at here. Zilch. Nada.

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:37

Insulted at having my identity questionned. That is insulting, very insulting! I said I was British, and I loved England. So what are you on about?
For the hiding bit, look on site stuff.

innit

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:41

Look, after I stated what my ID was, people questionned it didn't they. So the whole point was it's insulting to be told what you should consider yourself as. I am NOT talking nonsense, never was. My mind is clear, I know what I'm saying. You were all reading each others posts and getting mixed up by the sounds of it. How did WB realise she had taken things out of context then?

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:44

Yep just reread page 11. I got the confused emoticon as to why I thought I was Italian. This is a load of bullshit.

cruelladepoppins · 19/10/2010 23:47

Hey spikey - why do you care so much what other people think? You definitely must be Italian!!! Grin

spikeycow · 19/10/2010 23:48

Thank you, yes I am Grin
