Love this paper, but on here so many of you seem to despise it, why?

OP posts:
daftpunk · 12/10/2010 11:50

He took for granted his readers would know he wasn't being serious (He writes for the Times) although that article did receive a lot of complaints.

WinkyWinkola · 12/10/2010 11:52

Sure he wasn't being serious but it's just weird to have that much hatred to think about decapitating them with wire and then spending time writing about it.

It is a freaky thing to do. And not even vaguely amusing.

electra · 12/10/2010 11:53

YABU

It's a fascist, misogynistic rag.

I never read it - if I did I'd have wrinkles from screwing up my face in disgust!

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 11:58

Shock Another man was present? Don't we have a policy of compulsory chaperones for young men these days?

Cyclists, well... pah, I can't be bothered.

I've got lesbian lentils to weave into dreamcatchers.

cinnamontoast · 12/10/2010 11:59

TotorosOcarina, thank you, thank you, thank you for the Dan and Dan link, I'd never seen it before. Brilliant!

When Alastair Campbell gets a cab, if the driver has the Mail on the front seat he tells him, 'Either that paper goes or I do.' And if they're handing out free copies on a plane, he collects them up and shoves them in the bin. I do like a man who has the courage of his convictions.

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 12:01

Please don't tell us you like Alastair Campbell? That's not helping the cause!

cinnamontoast · 12/10/2010 12:08

Alastair Campbell is pure Marmite. I like him in a 'mad, bad and dangerous to know' kind of way, but let's not make this thread about him. It's so much more fun bashing the Mail. [goes off to watch Dan&Dan for the fourth time in half an hour]

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 12/10/2010 12:09

YABU.

It's purpose is to reinforce it's readers prejudices so that they keep buying the paper and can be sold to advertisers.

It wants you scared and stupid.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 12:11

I couldn't give a toss about cyclists either, I was just giving you an example of what other journos write. People just focus on the Daily Mail because they talk about homosexuals and immigrants. So what?

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 12/10/2010 12:18

Because they LIE. Are you happy to take your news from LIARS and scaremongerers? Seems like yes, but then it also seems like you don't have the IQ to tell the difference. Hmm

WinkyWinkola · 12/10/2010 12:19

So what?

Bigotry? So what?

Lies? So what?

Hatred? So what?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 12/10/2010 12:19

All those reading it for the sleb news.. NO.

You shouldn't be reading ANYTHING for that shit.

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 12:20

Has anyone noticed quite how inapposite the OP's name is?

ItsGrimUpNorth · 12/10/2010 12:23

Do you reckon Daily Mail readers tell their children to hate and get angry about shit then? I mean, if you do that as parents then surely you'll be teaching your kids the same way, right?

"Don't play with Johnny. He rides a bike and his head should be cut off. Only joking, ha ha ha ha."

"Oh no, don't go into that shop. We must hate those people. They are not white, came over here and opened up a shop and made money by working all hours and contributing tax etc"

"Oh my god. There's a new illness. Killer flu. Don't go out of the house for two weeks and for god's sake, don't talk to foreigners."

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 12/10/2010 12:25
daftpunk · 12/10/2010 12:25

The daily Mail is not Mein Kampf.

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 12:27

Despite its best efforts.

SanctiMoanyArse · 12/10/2010 12:27

YABU

It is so obvious about it's agenda its beyond laughable

2bloodyshoes · 12/10/2010 12:28

a lot of papers lie, some of the crap spouted on mn comes from people who don't read the DM(I read it on a Saturday, the only day I get a paper for myself) it hasn't turned me in to a raving bigot.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 12/10/2010 12:28

Well, no obv, what with Mein Kampf being a book containing autobiography and poilitical ideology.

I've not read Mein Kampf, but I suspect it has a more coherent and consistent worldview than the DM, which would make it better in at least one respect.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 12:29

Ha ha ha

lucielooo · 12/10/2010 12:33

I realised it was a load of shit when they got Jackie Collins to do a double page opinion piece on the war in Iraq Hmm

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 12/10/2010 12:44

I've read Mein Kampf. It actually does have remarkable similarities.

WinkyWinkola · 12/10/2010 12:54

Oooh, TheCoalition. I like your links.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 12/10/2010 12:56
