Love this paper, but on here so many of you seem to despise it, why?

OP posts:
cumfy · 11/10/2010 21:29

You could do a T-shirt a bit like:

Eat shit: 10 billion flies can't be wrong:o

Hullygully · 11/10/2010 21:30

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

GeekOfTheWeek · 11/10/2010 21:30

I read the sun Blush

Hullygully · 11/10/2010 21:32

You can't "read" the sun. It's an oxymoron.

Love the tits tho!!!!!!!!!

chiefcook · 11/10/2010 21:40

I buy the DM to annoy the hell out of DH. I started reading it in Uni after being bought up on the Mirror. Still skim the mirror every day, used to enjoy the Mail on Sunday but the murderous thoughts about Liz Jones just got too much for a Sunday!
TBH I hate all newspapers, they are all political propaganda.

ivykaty44 · 11/10/2010 21:47

I dispise the DM and if you perhaps take a look at what is behind the DM now and back in the 1930's then perhaps it will explain why it is dispised, especialy darcy.

Apart from that I tick some of the boxes for people they dispise and write about with venom

anastasiak · 11/10/2010 22:12

It is utter, utter, utter crap in the worst possible way. At least with the Sun or something you know its unashamedly tabloid crap. What I really hate about the DM is the veneer of being a proper paper, when actually its literally the worst newspaper in print in Britain today. its racist, xenophobic, dangerously right wing, and full of rubbish about princess diana and other similar crap. Anyone who reads it goes right down in my estimation - its a very poor reflection on their intellect and judgment in my view.

LionsAreScary · 11/10/2010 22:31

YABVU. Sorry, but it is shite. My PIL have it, and if I pick it up at their house I can be sure that 5 minutes later I will be hopping mad and DH will be reprimanding me for being stupid enough to read something which I know annoys me.

MaimAndKilloki · 12/10/2010 00:39

My parents have always read, and I'd occasionally dare a flick through. Then have to go have a relaxing bath to calm myself down again. It never failed to wind me up.

sunnydelight · 12/10/2010 01:07

YABU. I can never understand why they don't get prosecuted for incitement to racial hatred for most of the crap they print. It is truly vile.

fortyplus · 12/10/2010 01:11

I went for a lovely day out at Champneys Health Resort last year... fab except for the choice of reading matter - the Daily Mail and Hello.

Though looking around me I suspect they were hitting their target audience...

God I'm so judgey aren't I??! Grin

fernie3 · 12/10/2010 03:50

I dislike ghe daily mail because they seem to hate everyone who dares have a child or use public services in any way shape or form ( and they are utterly obsessed with house prices ). They seem to be aimed at white middle class ( or wanna be middle class) families either wig no children or with long grown up children who have forgotten,

bunnymother · 12/10/2010 05:57

Its great for celebrity gossip. And that's all.

Nancy66 · 12/10/2010 07:21

The MN relationship with the DM is a fascinating one. Everyone claims to hate it -so much so that they feel the need to read it every day.

It's the single most talked about media source on here and by far the most linked to site.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 08:03

people on mumsnet don't Like the Daily Mail because it represents middle England. Mainly White, married heterosexual Christians. And that just isn't on is it. The DM is a paper that actually represents the majority, but they're just not sexy, edgy or different enough for lefties. It has journos like Richard Littlejohn and Jan moir, who say what everyone else is thinking. Plus the brilliant Liz Jones. ( Plus it has one of the best sports journos around.

They occasionally come out with ultra controversial statements like; ' some women are happier at home with their baby rather than trying to do it all'...... I honestly don't know how they get away with that one...

ScroobiousPip · 12/10/2010 08:12

Nothing to do with middle England - in fact, that is hugely insulting to the vast majority of middle Englanders, Daftpunk.

I don't like the DM because it is badly written, frequently mixing fact and opinion in a way which deliberately confuses the two. People read the papers for both news and gossip - but they deserve to know which is which, whether middle Englanders or otherwise.

Nancy66 · 12/10/2010 08:19

the one thing you can never say about the DM is that it's badly written - it's not.

You may not like what they say but the writing quality is probably the best in newspaper publishing.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 08:22

Agree Nancy66. Top journalists.

ScroobiousPip · 12/10/2010 08:25

IMO, journalists have a duty to separate fact and opinion. It's poor journalism to confuse the two.

MrsC2010 · 12/10/2010 08:26

LOL.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 12/10/2010 08:28

yanbu(free country)
and I think it is loved by a lot of people on mn, as you can see by the amount of links,

miracled · 12/10/2010 08:31

I love to go on the online site and make comments. It winds up the 'real' readers no end and I quite often get wrist-slappy emails from the website people telling me they have withdrawn a comment due to number of complaints.

abr1de · 12/10/2010 08:36

It amuses me that everyone on MN thinks it's so bad and yet it's the one paper that everyone seems to read.

At least it doesn't have those quaint 'knit your own handbag/belt/garden furniture' things that the Guardian delights in. ;)

Nancy66 · 12/10/2010 08:50

miracled - but you're a 'real' reader - you go on the website, you've even signed up and given them your details so you can log in and post comments.

yeah yeah - you did all this to wind up faceless strangers Of course you did.

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 08:51
