Love this paper, but on here so many of you seem to despise it, why?

Beaaware · 12/10/2010 09:09

well it seems that I am in the minority on here and being very unreasonable for loving the Daily Mail, so change my views and tell me what papers I should be reading Grin

LoopyLoops,
Checked my dictionary can't find the meaning of rasist, are you trying to say Rasta?

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 09:13

The Independent and no others.

So there.

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 09:15

lol Beaware! Bouncing toddler on my stomach leads to inaccurate typing at times!

(Not sure rastas are generally into fascist newspapers)

slug · 12/10/2010 09:23

The reason the Daily Mail is the widest read paper in the UK is partly to do with the fact that it is written for people with a reading age of 9. (The Sun has a reading age of 7). Consequently it is an easy read, without the need for thinking or trying to work out what the long words mean.

NKinDXB · 12/10/2010 09:44

For those of you who say you can detect the bullshit and take articles with a pinch of salt, good for you, BUT you can be sure that the majority of readers swallow them hook, line and sinker.

One of my MILs favourite pastimes is cutting out articles to send to us, all featuring ways in which we might die horribly unless we heed the advice! (Last one something about us all getting legionnaires disease because we have aircon in our house).

And, yes, she does indeed tick many of LoopyLoops checklist.

Horrible newspaper, anti-everyone.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 09:59

Loopyloops;

Pretty sure Richard Littlejohn is Jewish (could be wrong)
Jan moir has a gay son and Liz Jones was married to an Asian man. Plus you should read up on the Stephen Lawrence case and the Daily Mails involvement in it.

Or maybe just stick to talking shite.

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 10:20

Yet they put aside their personal feelings to write tripe for the fascist rag.

Thanks for being so complimentary DP, I'm glad to have upset you, knowing that you certainly fir quite a few of my criteria above.

scotsmuminengland · 12/10/2010 10:28

I really like the DM and I don't see what you lot hate about it. If you hate it so much why do you know so much about it? The DM is always on this site and is then followed by 'Look how shite this article is?' Don't bloody read it then!

Nellykats · 12/10/2010 10:32

daftpunk, why don't you go burn a cross or something? There are also plenty of gays and non-christians out there needing a good seeing to. Quick, they're taking your job!

WinkyWinkola · 12/10/2010 10:39

The Daily Mail makes everyone scared.

Scared of the flood, nay, tsunami of immigrants hitting our shores every single day.

Terrified of every disease.

Shitting bricks about women daring to work outside the home.

Filling their pants about young people who feel its ok to be outside after dark and perhaps make a bit of noise.

It's a brilliant form of control. Be afraid. Of everything.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 10:40

LL; it's all a matter of opinion isn't it.
I think the Guardian is read by lesbian social workers, people who love anything as long as it isn't English, and teachers.

I'm sure that's over generalising.

WinkyWinkola · 12/10/2010 10:44

Just out of interest, have you ever actually read The Guardian, dp?

Know thine enemy and all that. But it can be quite stimulating to see different points of view.

abr1de · 12/10/2010 10:46

And you'll learn how to crochet a table mat. Wink

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 10:52

I agree DP, I'm sure that a fair amount of those people do read it, amongst others.

The difference is that it doesn't vilify straight non-social workers, English things, or non-teachers.

OrmRenewed · 12/10/2010 10:52

I think I am probably a denizen of Middle England dp.

I don't like the DM.

WillbeanChariot · 12/10/2010 10:53

daftpunk- I'm a white, married, heterosexual Christian. The fascist rag DM does not represent my views or feelings on anything. It is always offensively stupid, and sometimes just plain offensive.

Yes I am a Guardian reader. And I don't always agree with it but I do love it, except for the rugby coverage, which is shite could be better.

mrsshackleton · 12/10/2010 10:56

Jan Moir doesn't have a gay son, she doesn't have children

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 10:59

Maybe she does but can't admit it due to the DM fear? Grin

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 12/10/2010 11:06

PMSL at HM hating the DM because it represents white middle class christians. I'm willing to bet that the majority of MN are in fact white middle class christians.

Must try harder, daftpunk.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 11:08

I'm never offended by anything in the Daily Mail. It has a target audience who are mainly, although not exclusively, White, heterosexual Christians, and whats wrong with that? Yes it is right-wing, it has an agenda, but so have all newspapers. I like it because it's not trying to be trendy, right on and cutting edge... it couldn't give a toss. No one is forced to read it.

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 11:10

Also DP, Richard Littlejohn may be Jewish, but he is clearly xenophobic and homophobic as well as a convicted criminal. He is also well liked by Nick Griffin, which IMO makes him a twat.

Liz Jones used to be married to an Asian man, but after a bitter divorce, I'm not sure you can use that as testament to the diversity of DM journalists.

So, DP, you could read a little more information before you try to defend this fascist rag, or indeed you can happily continue to write utter shite.

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 11:13

Someone in her family is gay, I'm sure that came out when she received death threats from all the peace loving liberals. And her crime was? Daring to have an opinion on homosexuals.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 12/10/2010 11:14

Nobody gets a newspaper to be right on, trendy and cutting edge.

People buy newspapers to get information. Imagine that.

Not scaremongering disinformation or sexist opinions. Unless you are sexist and enjoy reading stuff that actually attacks your very own gender. Now that would be twisted.

And, "no one is forced to read it." Right. Hmm. It's not really relevant whether anyone is forced to read it. We can still have an opinion on it particularly since it's a rag that promotes sexism, racism and other ugly povs.

LoopyLoops · 12/10/2010 11:16

An offensive and massively distasteful opinion on an unrelated aspect of a person who had recently tragically died. An opinion that in itself is hateful.

I don't agree with violence, but I do think she should have faced serious consequences for that sickening article.
