Love this paper, but on here so many of you seem to despise it, why?

OP posts:

weird
if everyone hates the DM so much, why is every other Link an "oh I am sorry it's the DM" link?
I think there are a lot of of pretenders on here

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:27

I think the DM just tells us unpleasant truths. Yes, we are flooded with immigrants who want to set fire to our tube trains and build mosques everywhere so they can have secret jihadist meeting places. The white immigrants are all right as long as they do plumbing on the cheap but not if they take jobs from white English plumbers. The EU want to control the shape of our bananas and take all our money off us to pay for jihadist mosques and lesbian training jihadist centres. All homosexuals want to have sex with our children and probably donate money to jihadist mosque training centres.

Tory MPs are Gods and they are all honest and hard working not like lesbian left wing jihadist supporting immigrant-lovers.

OrmRenewed · 12/10/2010 11:28

hully - you are so right Grin

ItsGrimUpNorth · 12/10/2010 11:28

Eh? Can't you read it and hate it?

Isn't it important to know what crap is being spouted against people seeing as so many believe it?

I think it's important to read the Daily Mail to understand what bullshit they're trying to get folk to believe.

I always read the Mail.

AbsofCroissant · 12/10/2010 11:29

Meh - YANBU. It's up to you what you read.

I like reading the sleb pages, and getting hep up by them. I occassionally read Liz Jones and then spend a solid 10 minutes spluttering at what a muppet she is. I stay away from the "political" articles as I disagree with them so fundamentally, and as I'm not Christian and an immigrant, I'm obviously not the DM's ideal of a human being.

I also like to read the Grauniad occassionally to get het up at the very snooty tone of it (and the barking articles - "poor SAHM whose husband is a surgeon may lose CB in 2013 - it will be TOUGH. No cleaner for her!"). Same for the Independent.

To be honest, I think most of the UK newspapers are quite shite. They are so obviously political, the quality of writing is often rubbish (I used to read the Times, but honestly, the standard of journalism has slipped immensely) and they're all up on their high horses.

Will stick to the FT, NY Times and Economist.

OrmRenewed · 12/10/2010 11:30

I think what I hate most about the DM is the fear and mistruct it diseminates. It says 'be afraid, be very afraid!' of anything that isn't traditional and established. And IME life isn't that scary and neither are most people. It's wrong and damaging to imply that is it.

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:31
AbsofCroissant · 12/10/2010 11:32

But then a lot of the UK papers are spreading fear and mistrust, admittedly mostly the red tops. Every freaking day there's some "disaster" that's going to doom mankind in the Sun, the Mirror, the DM. The tone is always panicky. I'm amazed the citizens of the UK don't all have high blood pressure and stomach ulcers from this constant state of panic.

AbsofCroissant · 12/10/2010 11:33

But Hully - why?! I use it as my source on sleb gossip so I understand who gofugyourself is making fun of!

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:34

You have been rude about the Grauniad.

It is simply not permitted.

AbsofCroissant · 12/10/2010 11:35

Oh. Okay.

But I honestly don't really like the Grauniad. Did you not see this?

OrmRenewed · 12/10/2010 11:37

But the Mail has the pretensions to be something better than the rest of the tabloids. A cut above.

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:38

Yes.

Have you read Polly Toynbee and George Monbiot today? And the letters page that need to be cut and pasted on to the economics threads on here? Eh? Eh?

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 11:38

It was badly timed I agree, but she was entitled to her opinion.

One of my fav journalists Matthew Parris once wrote of his hatred for cyclists. He thought it would be a good idea to put piano wire across county lanes so they could all be decapitated. A bit harsh, but he was just thinking out load. You have to have people out there with opinions, strong opinions, views that will encourage debate ( not violence) but ime, lefties are not able to cope with that, I'm not sure why they are so easily threatened? maybe they lack substance and are essentially fragile.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 12/10/2010 11:38

Yes she had an opinion on homosexuals. I notice you don't mention that the opinion was that they tend to die because the are disgusting gays who can't stop shagging and taking drugs, and that its all their own fault. Conveniently forgetting the fact that she was talking about a man with a congenital heart problem? Hmm

I bet her son was dead proud of her that day.

This is a good read.

2bloodyshoes · 12/10/2010 11:39

bloody hell that journalist sounds like a prize idiot

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:40

"ticking time bombs of fatal gay"

hehehehehehehehe

AbsofCroissant · 12/10/2010 11:41

No Hully, because I'm ignoring the grauniad today (also, MN is taking up a LOT of my time at the moment, and I have to do some work some time).

Will mosey on over later.

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:41
Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:42

Yes, I do feel work interferes so.

WinkyWinkola · 12/10/2010 11:43

"You have to have people out there with opinions, strong opinions, views that will encourage debate ( not violence)"

But Mr. Parris was advocating violence against cyclists? I mean, it's just madness - why hate cyclists? Why spend so much energy hating pointless things?

And I do feel threatened by pointless hatred against women, gays, immigrants etc. Much violence has been perpetrated against these groups - and others - but I don't think that means I lack substance or am fragile.

Sorry but that's a really weird pov.

girlafraid · 12/10/2010 11:43

Headlines that begin with "Now"

usually along the lines of

"Now 90% of jobs in Britain go to immigrants" or some such crap screaming at me from the newsstand

Racist, xenophobic, sexist and their grammar is appalling

daftpunk · 12/10/2010 11:44

I think ( from memory) she commented on the night in question. Drugs had been taken and another man was present.

OrmRenewed · 12/10/2010 11:45

Why would someone's opinion that he wished to decapitate cyclists need placing in the public domain? All it will acheive is DM readers thinking that their bigotry is OK.

Hullygully · 12/10/2010 11:46

Oh come on, have you never wanted to chop a cyclist's head off?

I know I have.
