Yes, yes it's a thread about threads. Yes it's grumpy. But FFS what is going on MN?? Can we please ban the following on AIBU:

Facebook threads

Threads where the OP is 62 paragraphs long (fair enough if it's emotional with a long back story but when it's about a fight with your MIL over a satsuma - MAKE IT SHORT)

Gender threads - no-one likes their sons more than their daughters ok??

Fabricated dialogue - 'a man in the supermarket told me to remove my dd's filthy little hand from his trolley or he would call security, AIBU to tell him to piss off?'. No he didn't say that. You are making it up. Go away.

Any others?

Dawnybabe · 27/09/2010 16:12

People who hijack threads to talk about fruit.

Wink
SunnyDays06 · 27/09/2010 16:12

The ones that say that they spend £800 a week on shopping, they have big fat expensive cars, all thier clothes are Boden etc, Yeah just carry on whilst you make the rest of us feel even more depressed and inadequate!!

Fimbo · 27/09/2010 16:25

SunnyDays06- I think half of them make it up tbh.

I dislike the threads where the poster has only posted about twice and then starts a thread on the lines of I have 5p and packet of chewing gum to last me the next 5 weeks. Thereby good hearted mn'rs organise a whip round.

TheBeast · 27/09/2010 16:27

thumbwitch - I was referring to my post at 13:09:57:

Not a thread to be banned but I think people who hijack threads should be.

So, what is the difference between mandarins, clementines, tangerines and satsumas?

The question of which was cut and pasted from the Yahoo Answers! thread to which you linked.

Sorry for any confusion.

proudnglad · 27/09/2010 16:58

Wow Beast that's a thread killing post if ever I saw one.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 27/09/2010 17:11

No!

tangerines are a bit minging, I seem to remember.

Shall I introduce Minneolas into the discussion just for fun? Wink

TheBeast - I think I understand now - I thought you were accusing me of summat but it appears not. :)

junkcollector · 27/09/2010 17:29

But what ARE we allowed to talk about Eh? Eh? Ban it ALL.. go on, ban EVERYTHING...including using capitals to shout!!

It's the internet and I reserve the right to spout whatever boring mundane shite I like!

Down to banning by disapproval!!!

Minneolas are too perfumed and taste horrid.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 27/09/2010 17:58

Po is the town in Italy where Don Camillo (the priest) and Pepone (the communist mayor) live.

I particularly abhor those threads where I say something tremendously intelligent and insightful or funny or caring in response to the OP and no-one notices!!! Shock

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 27/09/2010 18:03

Dawnybabe Grin

BitOfFun · 27/09/2010 18:06

As opposed to Dario Fo, the radical communist playwright.

EdgarAllInPink · 27/09/2010 19:05

SDTG I lurve the don camillo books... but no-one else i know has heard of them.

the river was called The Po.

flootshoot · 27/09/2010 19:08

I hate troll hunting when the OP could be genuine. And also the accusation of 'AIBU by stealth' when in reality the OP has obviously posted in a fit of rage/stress and didn't mean to leave out half the details!

atswimtwolengths · 27/09/2010 19:16

Great thread!

Just want to add my vote to getting rid of those threads which start off with what a wonderful person someone (on here) is, when they haven't done anything more noteworthy than join in on the threads.

Also let's get rid of those people who always agree with the same person, even though that person hasn't made a comment for five pages - it's as though they've done a search for the username then straightaway bounced in to praise them. It's especially cringeworthy when the Praised Person has made the same comment as 172 other people.

Oh and those where they are so easily offended about nothing at all. Go and read some of the SN and bereavement threads if you feel your life is hard; you'll soon get a new perspective.

Honeydragon · 27/09/2010 19:19

Marks and Spencers to cleminintine Juice - it's nice it is.

Oh and on the age gap threads, a pregnant person goes so tell me what will a 5 year age gap be like?? And 40,000 "helpful" idiots pile in to say she has got it wrong and they have bred the optimin age gap on the basis of their perfect life.

They have failed to take into account the op is already pregnant, was looking for an idea of what is ahead and for all they know the second baby wasn't planned but a result of an impromtu drunken quickie behind the local chinese in a rare moment of matrimonial frission.

Therefore the helpful people who can give the op some sort of possible insight are lost in a sea of bickering and the op has given up and gone of to read a thread about cirtus fruit.

Tesco also do Clemintine juice but it is not nearly as nice.

Honeydragon · 27/09/2010 19:21

Marks and spencers do clementine juice

Honeydragon · 27/09/2010 19:22

clementine

scottishmummy · 27/09/2010 19:42

minxofmancunia · 27/09/2010 20:10

occassional/unpopular/not in with the in crowd poster posts a question/piece of advice/criticism/opinion whatever and gets berated/ignored/put down/scoffed at/patronised.

well known in with the in crowd poster does it (usually giving "advice" in v v abrupt fashion too i've noticed in such a way that if a neqbie did it they'd be accused of all sorts) and is applauded/adulated/celebrated and generally arsed licked/treated as if their word is gospel.

Pisses me right off.
