Yes, yes it's a thread about threads. Yes it's grumpy. But FFS what is going on MN?? Can we please ban the following on AIBU:

Facebook threads

Threads where the OP is 62 paragraphs long (fair enough if it's emotional with a long back story but when it's about a fight with your MIL over a satsuma - MAKE IT SHORT)

Gender threads - no-one likes their sons more than their daughters ok??

Fabricated dialogue - 'a man in the supermarket told me to remove my dd's filthy little hand from his trolley or he would call security, AIBU to tell him to piss off?'. No he didn't say that. You are making it up. Go away.

Any others?

I want to ban this kind of thread...
it does nothing but make new and infrequent posters feel bad.
If you don't like what's on the board, hide the thread or go elsewhere.

LetThereBeRock · 28/09/2010 13:45

'If you don't like what's on the board, hide the thread or go elsewhere.'

Are you going to take your own advice then?

Ingles2 · 28/09/2010 13:48

Good idea Rock
Wink

Fimbo · 28/09/2010 13:54

People that tried to hide the fact their are advertising their product/company and therefore not paying the advertising rates. It is so predictable and they have a certain style of writing.

pagwatch · 28/09/2010 13:56

But actually this thread covers pretty much every thread, so you almost have to chose to be offended or embaressed.

I have done a couple of the things on here. I don't care. One mans AIBU is another mans 'oh do fuck off'

[adds distressing the pedants to list of crimes]

Honeydragon · 28/09/2010 13:58

Ingles - has a fair point, I don't normally like threads like this as they can turn, but this has stayed nicely tongue in cheek - without anyone getting savage or serious.

Just a nice thread to be a grumpy cow on

...........or discuss small orange fruits.

By the way, what's with Kumquats. Horrid little bastards they are ... pointless too.

LetThereBeRock · 28/09/2010 14:00

I love kumquats,or at least I used to love to munch on them whole. It's been a while.

proudnglad · 28/09/2010 14:04

Oooh loving the way you casually threw in the kumquats there Honey. Surely they are not from the mandarin family?

(and yes no-one has been nasty on here for gosh's sake, just 'avin a larf. so brightened up my grumpy day yesterday)

Thank you luvvies - i didn't even know about radio 7 (we don't dial away from the safe shores of radio 4 in this house. Unless my husband has been at the controls...)

giovanni guareschi is undeniably one of the C20ths best.

tries to link in to mandarins, but there just isn't a connection

EdgarAllInPink · 28/09/2010 14:08

proudnglad is
no wonder you like bog brushes so much.

Miggsie · 28/09/2010 14:24

I read Don Camillo when I was at school. The best one was "the little world of Don Camillo".

Oh, and threads where someone was upset, or made a comment and then someone piles one with "you don't know all the circumstances they might have " or be having a "how rude can I be to women for charity fundraiser day" when all these scenarios have about a 5% probability and in reality it's a 95% probability the person was actually thoughtless and being rude and it is ok for the OP to be upset, because someone was rude for no reason.

I think we have now established that Oranges are indeed Not the Only Fruit.

cumfy · 28/09/2010 15:52

Threads with people saying "I'm going to hide this thread"Hmm

SolidGoldBrass · 28/09/2010 15:53

Hysterical whinyarses who think that everyone should know their backstory eg 'How DARE you post that on my thread, everyone knows I have piles/my budgie died so how can you be so insensitive'

Honeydragon · 28/09/2010 16:13

I'm going to hide this thread EVERYONE knows my budgie died of piles .... think before you post SGB.

DialMforMother · 28/09/2010 17:27

As a very newbie what I like most about THIS thread is that I know now that I can use MN to look for tips on how to knit my own guava yogurt before I give up work to care for gifted DD. If someone could let me know specifically which MNers arses I should be kissing that would also help a great deal. This is taking a lot of the hard work out of modern parenting IMO.

Proundnglad what did you do to Mumsnet? Because since you posted this at least four of the most hated topics have appeared like a nasty rash. Should I not be seen talking to you? Are you like the opposites of Mumsnet royalty (Mumsnet asylum seeker? Mumsnet neek?)

atswimtwolengths · 28/09/2010 19:04

Sorry, Pixie, I'm sure there are concerns if you have a genius child, but can't you see the thread is hiliarious? It'a the funniest thing I've read in years.

What really, REALLY gets me though, is when people recommend that a gifted child would be better off being home schooled, without any enquiry as to the educational levels of the parents involved.
