Female violence towards men

yorkshireblue · 10/09/2010 23:00

I have noticed a lot of posts which state violence towards males.
Is it ok for females to say these things towards males?
If this was dadsnet and these comments where aimed at women what would be the outcome?
Female violence is as bad as male violence

OP posts:

Beertricks I think percentages matter if an OP asserts "female violence is as bad as male violence".

On an individual level, of course that's true. On a societal level, it's just wrong. Ask the police, the courts, the prison service, the probation service.

I think you should probably try to avoid wilfully misinterpreting things, HB. It's carcinogenic.

scottishmummy · 10/09/2010 23:29

mn double standards of some are shocking.the kick him in the clackers/ break his balls about inaane trivia from some women when directed toward a male is tolerated.cue the web links to men-are-gits-you- are-goddess.com. usually around something to do with dh went out (as he does 2xyear) and came home drunk.big whoop di doo

I don't have double standards SM. I've stated quite clearly that on an individual level violence is wrong.

If I want to link to some actual facts about the issue of violence, I will. Let's face it, there's an awful lot of people out there who know sweet FA about it. Sorry you have such a kneejerk negative reaction to information being disseminated instead of just assertion. Must be terrible being so irriated by links all the time.

Women who hit men are often seen as unhinged, victims of their hormones or 'just' drunk, but not vile, evil, sadistic bullies, which is how men who hit women are viewed.

Is it because we think what motivates women to violence is different to men?

fuschiagroan · 10/09/2010 23:37

I don't see why it is less reprehensible for women to be violent to men just because male to female violence is more common. How does that work? It's about what's happening between two individuals.

It is indeed late, so this will be my last post tonight before bed!

The percentages do matter.

Yes, there is a moral equivalence between male/female and female/male violence.

But are the root causes the same? Likely not.

So, given the prevalence of male violence against women, that probably needs to be our first priority. These behaviours have happened for thousands of years... We have plenty of evidence. But we should still do our best to minimise the harm..

HerBeatitude · 10/09/2010 23:41

Which links are you on about then SM?

Because mine's the only one on this thread.

bruxeur · 10/09/2010 23:42

When you de-coffin, RG2, could you clarify - do you mean that no-one's allowed to get upset about female>male violence until the stats are exactly 50-50? Or until the majority changes, at which point no-one's allowed to care about women getting beaten up until they win at numbers again?

HerBeatitude · 10/09/2010 23:42

"I don't see why it is less reprehensible for women to be violent to men just because male to female violence is more common. How does that work?"

No one has argued that.

bruxeur · 10/09/2010 23:43

Well, no, but you did try to derail by insinuating that the OP thought that female>male violence is as prevalent as male>female.

scottishmummy · 10/09/2010 23:44

hb i am not addressing you specifically.do continue to chip in

as you were

bollox did I, I didn't know whether the OP thought that or not because she wasn't clear about it.

"Female violence is as bad as male violence"

What does that mean? That it's as prevalent? As big a social problem? Or as morally reprehensible?

It turns out the op means it was the third option. But seeing as how that seems to me to be a statement of the bleedin' obvious, I wasn't entirely sure.
