To think that a woman the other day had given her DC incredibly poncy names?

Artemis and Montgomery.

One or the other but both together was a bit much I thought.

Apologies if you are an MNer and you read this.

People will judge though, TOIQ. That is just the way of life. We are judged from the cradle to the grave. It is naive to think that other people will not have a view on your child's name. I will be honest and say that I don't like the name you have chosen. There is no law that says I have to. No point getting upset about it! I accept that you will have a view on my child's name, too. That's just the way it is.

massivehead · 05/09/2010 23:27

I like the names in the OP
meh

Doigthebountyeater · 05/09/2010 23:39

I like them too AND the boys' names in Lequeen's post. I am not a ponce though - quite the opposite. I just hate 'samey' names eg I like the names Oscar and Leo but I know about 20 of them.

Doigthebountyeater · 05/09/2010 23:40

And Artemis is a lovely name too. It was on our list if DS2 had been a girl. Not going to say what my sons' names are as they would definitely not be popular on this thread!

I can't quite believe some of the comments that have been generated by my post. TBH, some of the sniffy comments have made me PMSL!

I didn't mean to be a bitch, I just don't particularly like Artemis or Montgomery and the combination together was just too much for me.

Apologies if your child is called either! Wink

oh come on put your wooden spoon away.you knew was provocative post.even down to the wee Grinface

traceybath · 08/09/2010 21:13

Well ds2's middle name is montgomery. I don't care if people think its poncey.

Does make me laugh when people say names are dog/cat names.

Its because people call their animals people names now.

Back in the dark ages when I was a child - animals had animal names - you know rover/snowy/patch etc.

Now they're all oscars/milly/molly/sophie.

BarmyArmy · 08/09/2010 21:14

onmyhols - answer the oft-repeated question...what are your children called?

(Plus middle names, so we can judge the combination, naturally)

VirginonRidiculous · 08/09/2010 22:13

Well, it made me laugh. How boring would MN be if we were all non-judgmental/pc/do gooders. Foe Pete's sake give the gal a break. She's not saying she punched the mother in the face after hearing the names !!! Opinions are aloud.

scottishmummy · 08/09/2010 22:19

someone said crufts,that was funny

BarmyArmy · 08/09/2010 22:54

VirginonRidiculous - yes, but every now and then someone steps wwwaaaaayyyy over the line of what is generally considered acceptable.

VirginonRidiculous · 08/09/2010 23:00

Agreed.

Quattrocento · 08/09/2010 23:06

Oh I think Artemis is lovely!

Anyhow I see your Artemis and raise you with Persephone.

VirginonRidiculous · 08/09/2010 23:09

Imagine saying that after a bottle of wine. Smile

fiordgirl · 08/09/2010 23:14

Good names for dogs, not so sure about kids.

drfayray · 09/09/2010 02:30

Some people might think my DD's names are poncey...but they are meaningful to DH and I. She was premmie, I had placenta praevia and we both nearly died. So I called her Lakshme (Indian goddess of wealth and good fortune). Pronounced /luck-shmee/. DD is half Indian so appropriate. It suits her as she is a beautiful girl. Her second name is from the Bible and the third from one of Shakespeare's plays. Grin Now that is poncey!

I have been asked why I did not name her Mary. Shock.

We all wear judgey pants; for some a slightly tighter (hence icky comments) fit.

Live and let live.

drfayray · 09/09/2010 02:31

Oh and my dog ( a long-haired Weimaraner) is called Sophie!

But I call her darling. Wink
