My little boy has recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was totally heartbroken when we found out! Since then when people have offered him sweets/at partys/in shops, when I have to tell people he can't have things and why, This is usually followed by chubbie thirty to fifty year olds moaning to me that they or a relative have type 2 diabetes and how hard it is for them!

Type 2 is self inflicted.... btw..
I am soo angry that this has happened to my son.... He is only 4 (through no fault of his own Or anyone else) I just want to shout at them to shut up,stop eating so much shit and move around a bit more!!

This may not make sense, but AIBU?

Agedknees I love your name ... my knees are knackered too - have always giggled when I see your name pop up !

Thats fascinating..my Dad was a shift worker too....

With Type 1 there is increasing evidence that lack of vitamin d can lead to a likelihood of Type 1 ....

I hadn't heard that about type2 and shift workers... there's gotta be a connection there hasn't there ?

Our hospital have told us to put our son on vitamin D tablets as a precaution ..since once you have one child with type1 the chances of any siblings developing type 1 increase quite dramatically...

kittywise - OK, here are some words....judgy, narrow-minded, intolerant, uncompassionate?

agedknees · 25/08/2010 17:06

Duritzfan - my knees are years older than the rest of me!!!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/08/2010 17:08

Duritzfan - I wasn't offended. Smile

kittywise · 25/08/2010 17:17

fanjo, that's fine, that's what you feel. At least it's not telling me what I feel. I, at least, am not going to judge you for how you feel, nor am I going to tell you what you feel.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/08/2010 17:24

Yes, thanks, it's what I feel, due to your comments about the morbidly obese. Glad I am allowed to think that!

And no, I am not morbidly obese.

kittywise · 25/08/2010 17:30

Yes you are allowed to think that ,however, it appears to that I am not allowed to express what I think. But that is typical MN, anyone who goes against the braying masses gets stamped on. There's no real debate here, there's a lot of back patting and self congratulatory fluff. Heaven help anyone who says something 'controversial'.

ivykaty44 · 25/08/2010 17:30

actuallt know the complicateion are not the same, you will not smell peardrops on a type two but you will on type one and this is dangerous and they need medical help - so please if you do smell what you think is pear drops be aware this is dangerous for type one

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/08/2010 17:30

you are allowed, I will just think you are not that nice for it, that's allowed Smile

Duritzfan · 25/08/2010 17:39

Fanjo ..glad I didnt offend you .. Smile

IvyKaty44 is that right ? I love MN when you learn stuff ..

DD was in ketosis - had the pear drop smell..to this day if I smell pear drops it takes me right back ..

Can't that happen in Type 2 s though ? I thought ketones were a sign of very high blood sugars / dka and therefore surely it could happen in a type 2 ?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/08/2010 17:42

My friend who died did get ketoacidosis, but he had ignored his symptoms for ages.

honest Kitty. It isn't a really a chore.

I am quite happy to try and figure out these complicated levels of contempt.

Or perhaps I meant a different word?

edam · 25/08/2010 17:50

Not so much controversial as stupid, rude, and demonstrating a complete failure to grasp the key points of the subject being debated.

Life must be pretty dull for anyone whose major achievement is not being fat.

kittywise · 25/08/2010 17:55

as I said the usual self congratulatory back patting fluff, how tedious you are.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 25/08/2010 17:55

Pear drops is low blood sugars. Ds1 used to get it when he refused to eat when younger (then he'd throw up).

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/08/2010 17:55

that's what you would say if you were so arrogant as not to believe people could really criticise you..where is the back patting?

kittywise · 25/08/2010 17:55

no Edam there has not been one line of debate on this thread.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/08/2010 17:56

'braying masses'? You really are unpleasant, aren't you? You're not controversial or saying what everyone else is thinking, you're just very nasty. Congratulations.

pagwatch · 25/08/2010 17:59

But Kitty you have not been contravertial. You have just been rude and obnoxious.

There may well be a discussion to be had about over -eating and rises in diabetes. I am sure people have strong views about that and the increasing culture of alst food and excercise aversion.

But you just kept saying fat people have no slef control and look horrible. That isn't expressing strong views unless perhaps you think Jeremy Kyle is some kind of visionary

Grin at Kitty - speaker of the truth, sooth sayer to the nation. Brave bearer of uncomfortable truths.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/08/2010 18:11

And the lack of debate has been because you completely hijacked this thread with your foul opinions.

Food issues no fat people eating too much yes, there's huge huge difference
Thinking out side the box?LOL hat's rich coming from you LOL
gwendoline oh dear that's to be expected as I said 'braying'
This is tedious now, no room for reasoned debate here, I'm off.
