In a sort of patronising tone?

Ggggggrrrrrrrrrrr
My fellow MNetters, does anyone actually find buying jeans
A) easy?
B) a pleasure?

No? I thought not
Permission granted then?!

aah now see I am so average in all my dimensions, I have no problems getting jeans.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 16:47

Doffs cap to Knotty.....

Borrows mallet from ChippingIn....

I am currently wearing Next size 12 and my arse is tucked in nicely. I find there are 12s and 12s that are completely different sizes.

I have achieved nothing in terms of Jeans buying today.

Collapses sobbing.

my dh used to be able to walk into a shop and buy a pair of jeans then he met me! And i hated his supermarket bargan £5 hidious stright up stright down all one colour jeans. Now he has a nightmare trying to find a pair i do go Hmm at! Grin

I'm very particular with my jeans and struggle to find any that i like. They have to be flared, not boot cut or skinny flared and not 70's flared, but flared enough to make my feet look small yet small enoug to make my legs look long!

Me fussy? No!

nickelbabe · 18/08/2010 17:25

YABU - i don't wear trousers of any sort for exactly the reason that it takes faaaaar too long to find a pair that a) fit well and b) don't make my bum look big

nickelbabe · 18/08/2010 17:25

sorry, piste!
i meant YANBU !! so used to telling you YABU!

Oh god - I love jeans - 7FAM for premium denim are good as are J brand or paige.

For cheaper ones - agree oasis nice as are some top shop ones.

And never ever tumble dry jeans ever - in fact I do mine on the hand wash cycle and wash them very frequently as hate the day old jean sag you get with cheaper ones.

nickelbabe · 18/08/2010 17:31

calves are another problem!

i live in skirts and dresses.

i wear trousers when i'm doing dirty work, but even then, they are usually blokes' ones or very old and scruffy - then it's obvious i'm not trying to look good!

and pyjamas - but even then my arse looks huge.

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/08/2010 17:39

lol at the pink heart horror.

Have you lot tried Next? I normally loathe their clothes with a passion but their jeans are really good, and cheap.

Why do you M&S fans try Country Casuals?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 17:45

GetOrf... I am currently wearing Next jeans, but my rant started in gunwarf quays outlet mall today because the Next doesn't have any provision to try on anything. You cannot buy jeans without trying on??!!! Horror! Then DH was all snooty about not believing it could be so difficult. Gggrrrrrrr.

Waves to nickle..... I loooove pyjamas!!

Right, go to either Gap or Selfridges (if in London / wherever else there is one in the UK. Is it Birmingham?) and try on LOADS and LOADS of different pairs.

Get a sales assistant, tell her / him your woes and what you want your jeans to look like (tight, straight, boyfriend etc) and let them fetch and carry all the different styles and brands to you.

Depending on your price brackets, you WILL find a pair. I am tall with a slim waist and no arse trim bum and skinny legs. Boyfriend jeans make me look like Coco The Clown. Skinny jeans can hang off me if I don't wear the right brand.

I now buy either Top Shop Baxters or Jeane or Seven for All Mankind. And yes, Seven are expensive BUT they fit like a dream and I buy them in the sales.

Alouiseg · 18/08/2010 17:52

You are being very unreasonable! I wish everything was as easy to buy as jeans.

  1. Decide on the style you want
  1. Go shopping try a few pairs on.
  1. Buy the ones that look nice.

There are so many styles, shapes and makes these days I don't really see how body shapes come into it. Confused

ifancyashandy · 18/08/2010 17:58

Is that to me Alouiseg? If so, I promise you, I had a nightmare buying jeans for years. I took advice of a friend, went to Selfridges. Found a sales assistant who didn't look 12 looked friendly, explained what I wanted (I was looking for tight evening jeans and more relaxed daytime ones).

She put me in a changing room, measured me Blush, went off and I spent the next two hours trying on loads of different brands and styles. She kept them coming! And because it was Selfridges, she went to all the instore concessions like Top Shop and French Connection as well as the 'premium' brands.

Got one on one advice and didn't cost me a penny. Yes it took a while but god, it was worth it to know what brands look like shite suit me.

RonansMummy · 18/08/2010 18:00

there is a brand called "notyourdaughtersjeans" that you could try? they are expensive but people rave about them :-)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 18:02

That is good advice ifancyashandy...

There is such a massive range of cuts for women, then different colours, washes etc. DD has some that are shredded before she started wearing them. DS achieved the same effect in his jeans by wearing them to cub camp! LOL.

ifancyashandy · 18/08/2010 18:04

Ah, Alouiseg I just re-read your first sentence! I 1st read it as 'jeans are not easy to buy".

Apologies!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 18:04

RonansMummy

There is a shop near us that sells those. Do you have experience yourself?!

OP posts:
gomummy · 18/08/2010 18:05

YANBU.

I am so sick of trying to buy jeans that fit properly. Almost as sick as I am of wearing jeans that don't feel "just right." Am so Envy of those of you who find it easy and can just go into a shop, try a few pairs on, and leave happy with your purchase! Had found a wonderful pair of Gap Long and Lean which I literally wore out, but they have changed the fit/sizing and now I have no success.
