In a sort of patronising tone?

Ggggggrrrrrrrrrrr
My fellow MNetters, does anyone actually find buying jeans
A) easy?
B) a pleasure?

No? I thought not
Permission granted then?!

My favourite pair are about 7 years old now... Gap Long and Lean - perfect and no muffin top even when sitting down. The newer version doesn't fit me half as well as the old. I wash them gently and try to make them last.

I spend hours trying jeans on and coming home empty handed.

DD (13) and I are the same height but that is where the similarity ends! Her legs are longer Envy and she is a slinky and I am not. To cater for our shapes and tastes there must be a gazillion different pairs of jeans out there!

It is finding the right pair that is the killer!

ratherbeonthepiste, i've never tried them myself but i used to work in a shop that sold them, some of the staff there had some and when the shop liquidated and they were cheaper a couple of people came in especially to buy them and asked where else they could get them once we were gone. i've been told they wash well and don't go saggy because they have 4% lyrca instead of the usual 2%.

KnottyLocks · 18/08/2010 19:35

Hey Piste, you were in Gunwharf! Near me...a missed opportunity. We could heve ranted at jeans together then hit the bars to drown our sorrows.

Another thing that bugs me about jeans is that if the waist fits, I get a million folds down the back of my thighs. It looks like my arse can't decide where it ends, or I have five arses.

Which is a possibility.

diddl · 18/08/2010 19:47

I´m 5ft & 50kgs.

As far as I know, a jean does not exist for such a "figure"

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 19:55

LOL Knotty...
I shall call you FiveArsedKnotty Grin

In Gunwharf shortly before I lost the will to live I tried on

  1. Fat Face - best but low rise
  2. M&S - a bit Bridge Club as someone put it
  3. Jack Wills - they were cords, but i was desperate BUT I'm really too old for JW, truth be told.
  4. Some random shop I don't know, that's where my mahoosive calves got stuck.
  5. Would have tried on Next but no changing room, what's that all about?!
  6. Gap - arse falling out ish ooos

Thing is I am a 12R. How diff should it be?!

Hitting the bar with my old mate FiveArsedKnotty would have been much nicer!

I too hate buying jeans (and trousers). I am something like a size 14 with a size 10 waist so they NEVER fit and gape round the waist. Am also quite tall so long is sometimes not quite long enough. And I have to be very precise about the rise as well - don't want too low rise due to muffin top/belly issues and if they're highish waisted, they make my stomach look enormous, so try to buy trousers/jeans that are about an inch below the waist as this looks best on me. Over the years I estimate that somewhere between 1 in 20 and 1 in 50 of the pairs of trousers I try on fit, even when they are the 'right' size, so am somewhat at the end of the tether with it all. Now that my weight is stable I am thinking of going to a designer jean shop where they look at you and instantly know your size and which style will fit and then proceed to sell you some hugely expensive but perfect jeans - it'll be worth it! Men moan about women taking ages shopping but they just go and buy a '34 long' or whatever. They don't have to think, well I'm a 10 in M&S and Next, but a 12 in Top Shop and too much of a heifer for Zara etc etc do they?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 20:22

LizzieMint and Diddl- I can feel your pain. I just don't see why DH doesn't get it! Sob.

lindsell · 18/08/2010 20:30

I've recently discovered that the jeans that karen millen and reiss do actually have a half chance of fitting me, had never thought to try them before but have been quite a revelation!

CatIsSleepy · 18/08/2010 20:33

well I am short- makes finding nice jeans damned tricky. When I find a good pair I wear them to death! Skinny jeans are actually not so bad, length doesn't matter so much if I can wear boots over the top....but I would like some lovely flattering straight-leg jeans that are just the right length....

KnottyLocks · 18/08/2010 21:05

When you have recovered enough to hit the wharf again, Piste, cat me and I'll book a atble for 6: you and my 5 arses. Sod the jeans.

The bastards.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 21:15

Knotty - I actually snorted then at the table for6 Grin
Call it a date!

Karen Millen jeans sound expensive- are they?!

OP posts:
minibmw2010 · 18/08/2010 21:21

Hmm,Karen Millen do nice things, but they are v pricey. Their cheapest jeans are £85 !! I quite like Red Herring at Debenhams at the moment, their skinny jeans are great, have lots of elasaticity in them, but keep their shape brilliantly.

RandyRussian · 18/08/2010 21:29

Not being catty (ahem!) but my hairdresser has a HUGE arse but a lovely trim waist and her trousers always seem to fit.

Got chatting one day and I asked her how she managed it. Her secret? Buy a pair that fit hips/arse and get mother to take the waist in.
AND she must be my age at least. Lazy cow Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 22:12

RandyRussian

That's almost like Ds's jeans from H&M with the elastic adjustable inner! Maybe that's hat we women need too?!

OP posts:
lindsell · 18/08/2010 22:29

I get the karen millen jeans on ebay - check the styles I like in the shops and then get them cheap online Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2010 23:24

I am going to show DH this thread because the majority of women do seem to have to trawl around to find jeans / trousers that fit. Sizes aren't standardised and neither are us women!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/08/2010 08:12

He still doesn't really get it grrr

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 19/08/2010 14:49

Batter him.

bossyboop · 19/08/2010 15:04

I remember having a pair of jeans so low rise you needed a bikini wax before you put them on

diddl · 19/08/2010 15:06

Well I have resorted to skinny jeans because at least with those I can cut the necessary foot bit off the bottom without it altering the style of them.Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/08/2010 15:22

Eeeeuuuuuuwwwww Bossy at the waxing!!

Diddl - you are on the shorter side of being tall. That must be a pain. Do you get them turned up or just go for the hippy frayed look? I know which I would prefer!

Why thank you Knotty. The question then remains shall I batter him with my mallet OR like a piece of haddock?

Iatemyskinnyperson · 19/08/2010 15:25

I'm a 12, am apple shaped, so no hip/thigh ishoos, but also no waist to speak of. Those that fit nicely on the hips generally give me hideous muffin top.

try Ben Sherman jeans... my favs at the mo. Lovely soft denim, good colour and a reasonable waist height - i.e. not lowrise but not under your armpits either. I dont know the style name of the ones I have but they are a really nice bootcut.

I do have a pair of 7's, nice too but a little low-rise for me, and I got them taken up too much so can only wear them with flats.

I like Top Shop Martha's - ditto on the waist and really nice straight leg for those who can't do skinnies.
