Meglet · 17/08/2010 20:38

I don't think they smell of anything. It has always baffled me when people say this Confused. I am obviously missing out.

cyteen · 17/08/2010 20:38

Well I am, and this thread's not helping Grin Lovely new baby smell, aaaahhhhh.

ziggyf · 17/08/2010 20:38

I ache to smell that smell again Blush

DancingOnMyBladder · 17/08/2010 20:38

It is!

I am 37 weeks pregnant and went to visit a friend and her new baby - I practically went into labour just sniffing her head.

(The baby not my friend!)

compo · 17/08/2010 20:38

Aw it can't be gone if your using the same milk and baby bubble bath Smile

Shaz10 · 17/08/2010 20:38

I don't remember the smell either. Mine just smelled of Fairy washing powder (and curdled milk!)

happygilmore · 17/08/2010 20:39

Aww Meglet, it's so yummy! Not sure how to describe it, like biscuits maybe?

YANBU!

DS is 11 weeks and has also lost it :-(

Feeling broody just thinking about it (runs off to discuss possibility of DC3 with DH...that's a "no" apparently).

DorotheaPlenticlew · 17/08/2010 21:04

YANBU. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ... newborns

DD is 15 weeks and the top of her head still smells lovely. Not quite the full-on newborn olfactory amazingness, but still great.

happygilmore · 17/08/2010 21:05

Fair enough bellepink!

I had heard people say about the newborn smell thing but didn't really think it existed til we had DD. It's so distinctive isn't it?

greenbananas · 17/08/2010 21:06

my DS smelled completely wonderful when he was born - his very own special smell.

After a long and busy day in the sun, his hair still smells exactly same way.

stressheaderic · 17/08/2010 21:06

My 6 month old DD smells of the most delicious combination of Fairy Non-Bio, Johnsons Baby shampoo, milk, rusks and sainsbury's baby bath (which is fab). I just HAVE to scoop her up for a sniff of her little scruffy head at least every 5 minutes.

I sometimes go into her room while she's in bed asleep just for a little sniff.

Smells are so emotive aren't they? I'm just having a carton of Ribena, takes me right back to the fortnight before giving birth when I had to go to hosp for monitoring nearly every day and DP always bought a Ribena in the WRVS shop.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 17/08/2010 21:06

DS smelt of steak at first.

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2010 21:11

woo hoo DWP :o

happygilmore · 17/08/2010 21:12

Steak Grin

OP posts:
MiladyDeSummer · 17/08/2010 21:15

Steak? Confused

I did like the smell of DS' poo though, it was so sweet until he was weaned...

Bellepink · 17/08/2010 21:15

It's actually a lovely smell happygilmore Smile

But do you really really think you might be BU to think so? Why not just go on Chat and say "I love the smell of newborns"?
