I must leave this thread...its making me broody Shock

ohnelly · 17/08/2010 21:58

Yanbu at all - love sniffing ds's head. Didnt even know I was doing it until friend pointed out mid conversation - I love that smell dont you? I was sniffing & talking at the same time!

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2010 22:00

DH noticed yesterday that DD is losing her wrinkly neck, you know the way they look like little turtles when they're tiny ?
That, not any walking, will signify end of babyhood to me :(

ohnelly · 17/08/2010 22:00

I love the smell of newborn puppies too - is that wrong? {big sniff mmmmmmm}

giraffesCantDanceInBrokenHeels · 17/08/2010 22:00

A baby puked on me at toddlers today and I sniffed my cardi and said out loud aaah I love tiny baby puke smell.

Oops.

Its just non offensive milk smell, it just smells like baby and is so nice. Niece puked on the other shoulder later - shes 12months and it smells like sick sick :( Yuck.

MiladyDeSummer · 17/08/2010 22:01

Sexual identity being destroyed? Confused

How so?

Snobear4000 · 17/08/2010 22:02

Edgar...

I would have used puke, but it would have been disingenuous, as DS never vomited. In that, at least, we were blessed.

He still smells like the-rest-of-my-life-being-a-sadly-compromised-version-of-it's-former-potential.

He's kind of cute though so I've forgiven him.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/08/2010 22:02

I've only ever smelt the newborn lovely smell on other people's babies - neither of my 2.

Is it like other peoples laundry that always seems to smell nicer than your own?!

BrittanyBeers · 17/08/2010 22:05

I've never smelt that "newborn" smell either. However, I do like the smell of BF baby poo and, ahem, lochia.Blush

Puppy breath is ace too.

poshsinglemum · 17/08/2010 22:07

Mine smelled of bacon or steak too! My theory is that it's the smell of friction on the cervix. Burning flesh! However- it was a lovely sweet smell.
Some people say it's the smell of angels.

poshsinglemum · 17/08/2010 22:08

Reading that back I hope it dosn't take the magic away. Tis a lovely smell. lovely memeories.

tweakers · 17/08/2010 22:18

i'm 38wks pg with number two and don't remember DS smelling particularly of anything other than washing-powder

I'll report back if DD will be different in a few days Grin

I do remember (and look forward to again) the little snuffling sounds they make though Smile

stressheaderic · 17/08/2010 22:29

Snobear4000 - if that's how you really feel then I feel sorry for you and hope you can find peace.

SwanseaSlapper · 17/08/2010 22:33

It's the smell of the inside of other peoples uteruses that you are smelling. mmmmmmm

baby sweat is nice though

IMoveTheStars · 17/08/2010 22:47

puppies smell of wee and newspaper.

How can it be the inside of peoples uteruses when they still smell that nice 6 weeks later?

CoinOperatedGirl · 17/08/2010 23:43

Yak I really hate the smell of lochia, especially my own. I used to work in a maternity unit and will never forget the smell of lochia and rotting placenta's . New babies do smell of biscuits though, not mine that I remember but I have deffo had a biscuity whiff off of a few babaies.

CoinOperatedGirl · 17/08/2010 23:43

Babies even.

giraffesCantDanceInBrokenHeels · 18/08/2010 04:55

Oh I quite like the smell of breast fed baby poo as well. Not as in I'd wear it as a perfume of anything just in that its non offensive and sweet smelling.

WelcometotheJungle · 18/08/2010 07:09

Neither of my babies had that smell both born naturally. My friends CS baby was that smell full on.

I remember visiting her at the hospital and having an extra big whiff before I left, it was amazing, I'll not forget it in a hurry.

Am due soon, baby smells and breast feeding are helping me deal with pre labour anxiety!

forpitysake · 18/08/2010 07:22

sometimes i can get a wiff of a smell kinda like it on the top of my DD head (she is 4) but only if i've been lazy and not washed her for 2 days.once its washed its gone. i like the smell of her pajamas tho Blush

Morloth · 18/08/2010 09:26

YANBU, DS is almost 5 months now and smells of "Boy" already. Sad

So I should have another baby, yes?

I wish I could just replay and replay those first few moments when they were on my chest all hot and slimy and new.

He does still have the sent of Lux (or Dri-pak) which is nice, but it is nothing compared to that wonderful newborn smell!

Morloth · 18/08/2010 09:30

scent of Lux obviously.

Snobear that is really sad.

forpitysake if DS1 doesn't wash every day he starts to smell of wet dog, which is odd because we don't have a dog.

pommedeterre · 18/08/2010 09:45

DD smelt very sweet very strongly for a good three/four weeks then it started to disappear. I used to love it. Dh worried that it was so strong because he likes to worry.
