To be a bit shocked by 'The Inbetweeners'

I watched a couple of episodes of this yesterday and was really quite shocked at some of the sexist derogatory language used on the show:

'There's some tidy minge here...' (Talking about a group of girls)

'If there's grass on the lawn you can plant your pole'. (Talking about the fact that the said girls were 12/13)

A character being routinely referred to as 'Charlotte big tits'.

'Does it smell?...has she wiped her minge on it.' (Talking about a Valentines Day card from a girl)

'I think we could get our fingers sticky here.' (talking about the fact that there were plenty of girls in a disco scene)

Plus numerous other references to tits, fanny, minge, wannk, cock, cum, blow etc.

Now, I realise that this programme is meant to be watched ironically by young men aged 25-35, but isn't the problem that it is being watched 'literally' by teenagers and children aged 13 - 18?

What kind of attitudes towards girls/women is this promoting in young men?

Oh, and yes, it is wittily scripted, but it also gave me the creepy horrors at the general sexualised nastiness of it all...

It's hilarious. Normally very reserved DH was crying with laughter. Said he now realises what a bunch of wankers he and his friends were.

The catwalk bollock scene is one of my favourites and the film is just as funny.

KirjavaTheCat · 11/07/2013 18:27

Creasing at some of the Inbetweener in-jokes on this thread and the fact OP was confused about them all. I'm so juvenile.

Awesome zombie thread.

Buswanker · 11/07/2013 18:29

I love the film. I had a teenage brother and I now have a teenage son and they do speak like that!
They usually grow out of it.

FreudiansSlipper · 11/07/2013 18:32

i love it i think its hilarious

you are laughing at them not with them. Jay's lines are the funniest he is a twat, desperate and you see why he is like he is with such a revolting dad

BackforGood · 11/07/2013 18:35

Great thread revival - have just been laughing at all the quotes, reading through again Grin
Amazed that the OP rather missed the fact that Jay's character is the one that's being ridiculed throughout Hmm

humdumaggapang · 11/07/2013 18:45

Frothing at the gash us the most disgusting thing I ever heard and therefore hilarious

brilliantwhite · 11/07/2013 18:50

Panzee · 11/07/2013 18:55

How does someone find a thread so old just to say YABU? Loving the quotes though. :o

Taffeta · 11/07/2013 19:00

Loving "football fwend"

QueenofLouisiana · 11/07/2013 19:05

Love this programme! I have a night by myself tonight- I may dig out the box set.

I have full respect to the actor who really did have his balls hanging out of the shorts in the fashion show- it isn't a fake one!

Tallalime · 11/07/2013 19:09

I am quite fond of the Inbetweeners.

Mostly for Bus Wanker.

And friend, I am often caught greeting my friends by squeaking "ooh friend, friend"

burberryqueen · 11/07/2013 19:12

Football fwiend.

I love The Inbetweeners and the movie too.

I sometimes have a sense of humour that's a little crude though but not out of order but I love it because that is how teenage blokes are (I am 23, so wasn't that long ago I had to put up with the wankers). Plus the guys have no luck with women not until the film, anyway because they are so rude and obscene and no girl in her right mind would want to go anywhere near them.

I love pretty much every episode.

BUMDER.

It's what you call someone when you can't remember bummer or bent. :)

Oooh a sequel film, I'm in.

Fan-titty-tastic.

That shit is clunge clenching stuff. :D

moomoo1967 · 11/07/2013 19:23

love this series and the film :) It should be used as a "these are the sort of lads you avoid girls"

FreudiansSlipper · 11/07/2013 19:26
