According to my mother it makes me look like an old lady who's give up on life too soon.

My mother drives a car. She moans when she has to drag a bag of food from the drive to the kitchen. I do not drive, have a 4 year old DD running about and I'm sick of heavy bags digging into my hands pulling off my arms splitting at random moments and needing to be gathered up again everytime I use the cash point or wait at the bus stop.

AIBU to tell her to mind her own business or am I really turning into an old lady?

YANBU.

Especially if it's an Orla Keily one. Envy

Tee2072 · 07/08/2010 17:55

I have had one for about 7 years. And I'm 41. So hardly an old lady when I got one or now.

They are totally useful and so much better than, as you say, lugging bags that break or hurt your hands.

Of course, these days I also have a pram and joke that that's why I had a baby at 40. Because it is cooler to push a pram than drag a Sholley!

But I don't mean it. If my son is in day care or somewhere, I will take the shopping trolley with me.

Tell your mum she's crazy. Grin

Shock at how many of you have one!

TheJollyPirate · 07/08/2010 18:02

I keep thinking about getting one from an eco point of view - much greener than shopping bags.

theagedparent · 07/08/2010 18:02

Yanbu they look great and are so so useful

They are so chic in Paris, everyone has one! We visited a friend there and I was horrified that she had one until we visited the local market. All the chic Parisiens with their trolleys make us look so silly lugging our bags around.

Tee2072 · 07/08/2010 18:08

This is the one I have only mine is navy.

MadameBelle · 07/08/2010 18:13

And if you can't afford an Orla Keily one, Cath Kidston does some nice ones too.

I'm thinking of getting one now the buggy has been dumped.

MumInBeds · 07/08/2010 18:13

I'm 32 and I've had one for about 5 years, the supermarket is just about walking distance but a bit too far to carry things from (and I have a back problem) so it's ideal.

BohoHobo · 07/08/2010 18:15

I have a bright pink Ikea one! V V useful when trailing from shop to shop in the village

MmeLindt · 07/08/2010 18:18

I have this one and use it quite a bit.

Handy for picnics too.

LynetteScavo · 07/08/2010 18:26

MmeLindt , Thank you! I've been looking for one of those!

LoveMyGirls · 07/08/2010 18:39

I had one at 22 and then sold it at a car boot - how foolish and stupid of me!

minipie · 07/08/2010 18:42

YANBU I want one!

Out of curiousity, roughly how many full supermarket carrier bags can you fit into one?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 07/08/2010 18:43

I want to get one when buggy is ditched - maybe sooner as then DD can walk/sling and I have something to carry all our stuff in. Much cheaper than buying a car...

sparklingchampagne · 07/08/2010 18:44

DD and I bought one from the charity shop the other day!!!
It's great for walking back up the hill home from town, and even better DD loves it so she pulls it behind her and I don't have to carry anything anymore :) :)

Flisspaps · 07/08/2010 18:48

I do not have one. My brother and sister used to call them 'fuck trucks' when we were younger.

seb1 · 07/08/2010 18:49

I keep threatening to get one as the dds don't seem to like carrying school bags, jackets, lunch boxes etc therefore I end up looking like a packhorse Hmm

toffeecupcake · 07/08/2010 18:54

I cant decide if to get one or not, my dd says they're only for old people but you can get some really nice designs on some. still undecided.

sanielle · 07/08/2010 18:58

I want one... so bad. DH is horrified. I am 27.

RonansMummy · 07/08/2010 18:59

They are grannyish, but a hunchback looks worse! If it gets the job done and saves your back then who cares what it looks like! Just don't use a tartan one, hehe!
