John Scott was back because he likes dressing 'curvy' ladeez!

They had people on who are doing some sort of pageant, talking about how they were bullied for their weight issues in school and how this is giving them confidence.

He showed swimsuits that 'take 10lbs of you' swimsuits that 'go up to a size 32' and ways to drape a sarong to show off your 'curves'

AIBU in thinking that theres a difference in being curvy and being clinially obese?????
Yes its fine to not be a size 8, yes its fine to enjoy your food, yes its fine to wear swimwear whatever age or size you are ....... but calling these ladies 'curvy' One of them was clearly clinically obese, and he was celebrating the fact that these women could wear swimwear and embrace their bodies.

Sorry but you can embrace your body as much as you like, but being that weight is not healthy, its just as bad as putting super skinny size 0 models on there are saying how great they look in swimwear

so they should have said "and here are some swimsuits for the clinically obese amongst you..or better still don't wear swimwear and wear a big tent"?

Hmm

no but why are we brushing over this with words like 'curvy'??
they were not curvy!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/08/2010 12:25

exactly!

bronze · 05/08/2010 12:26

'for the larger ladies out there'

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/08/2010 12:26

oops , the exactly was to MMJ.

sanielle · 05/08/2010 12:26

NO one aspires to be obese. People girls starve themselves to follow skinny models.. Cury is just a nice little way of saying fat. And I'm gutted I missed it that anyway cause I am in dire need of a swimsuit for a uh curvy girl...

mosschops30 · 05/08/2010 12:27

OMG its not about other people being disgusted, I wasnt disgusted anymore than I would have been seeing some skinny freak with bonmes protruding.

I just dont know what we are supposed to be celebrating here, we can talk about the dangers of being too thin and not having a healthy diet, but at the other end of the scale we cant???? Why not??

OP posts:
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/08/2010 12:28

people constantly talk about the other end of the scale..but perhaps a swimsuit section is not the best time to do it? A little sensitivity required there perhaps?

Morloth · 05/08/2010 12:28

Even fat people like to wear nice clothes and look good. Hard to believe I know, but fat people are people.

traceybath · 05/08/2010 12:29

The word curvy is massively mi-used at the moment in my opinion. Curvy to me is Kelly Brook type shape not just really big all over.

But everyone needs to be able to wear a swimsuit really and its good if it showed the most flattering styles for larger sizes.

mosschops30 · 05/08/2010 12:30

bollocks to sensitivity, maybe if we could say 'youre starving yourself to death and you look terrible' and 'youre fat, and youre damaging your heart so you need to lose some weight' this wouldnt be a problem.

All this namby pamby 'curvy' and 'svelte' shite is just nauseating.

OP posts:
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/08/2010 12:31

don't you think there is a time and a place though? Like not in a swimwear fashion section of daytime TV show?

Morloth · 05/08/2010 12:31

It doesn't help mosschops, it makes you feel shit and then you go and eat something/purge to feel better. Sometimes both.

mosschops30 · 05/08/2010 12:32

Once again my issues are not about the swimsuit, its about celebrating 'curvy' bodies that are actually fat or clinically obese. Its nothing to celebrate.

I agree curvy is Kelly Brook/Holly Willoughby/Salma Hyak type of woman

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 05/08/2010 12:33

morloth sorry thats a crap excuse 'i feel fat and if someone calls me fat then I eat more and get fatter'???? WTF?????

OP posts:
sapphireblue · 05/08/2010 12:35

so how would you have liked John Scott to phrase it? "Here's a swimsut for enormously fat people?" "Here's a swim suit for the clinically obese?"

Morloth · 05/08/2010 12:35

So you have been there then? You have cried and starved yourself and eaten food as punishment?

From the sounds of it you know fuck all what you are talking about.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/08/2010 12:36

I think you have probably made a few people feel crap with this thread too.

sapphireblue · 05/08/2010 12:36

and actually what Morloth just said isn't crap. Some people (me included) use food for comfort. If you upset me by calling me fat then I'm going to need some comfort, aren't I?

It's a bit like when people 'celebrate' the fact that 'real woman' Dawn French advertises Chocolate Orange and has her own range of plus size clothes. It normalises extreme and very unhealthy obesity.

oneortwo · 05/08/2010 12:37

YABU, when I need to loose weight the best way to motivate myself is to get me some nice outfits in the size I am so I feel happy and confident, then once I feel a bit better about myself it has a knock on effect on my health and lifestyle

If you feel hideous and can't wear anything it can make you not want to do stuff so can lead to a more sedentary lifestyle and maybe comfort eating.

Swim costumes are generally used to SWIM in - a healthy activity that some people may avoid if they don't think they can't find anything to swim in that they look and feel okay in.

If you love your body then surely that might give you the kick up the bum you need to look after it no?

BelligerentGhoul · 05/08/2010 12:37

Well, I am 'curvy' and am a size 10-12 as imh curvy means that you have curves and go in and out in a fairly traditional hourglass with boobs sort of way.

I think it's good that style features don't pretend that everybody is a size 8 but agree that calling them 'larger ladies' may have been more appropriate.
