FUCKING HELL I HAVE JUST HIT MY MIL

slushy · 29/07/2010 19:33

OMG I feel so guilty it is my time of the month she was shouting at my dp for 10 minutes about him and his sister not talking. Saying how horrible for her, so I stood up and said it has not exactly been great for me either you know, I have had a lot of stress lately worried because of my health this has been going on since dd was born.

She said I was a fucking evil bitch you will get what is coming to you I am fucking going. I followed her and told her not to come back without a apology she grabbed me and started strangling me in front of my poor dc. So I pushed her off and she tried to bite me the only way to stop her was to hit her so I hit her and it desended into a full scale fight my DP tried to break it up and she bit him.

I had her hair to stop her harming me and let it go when dp intervened. She said she is gonna phone the police and have me done for assault so I have phoned them they say I was assaulted. I don't wanna press charges MIL is a nurse and will lose her job as well as her son. I am so ashamed of myself, I hate my bad temper and I cannot believe I did this in front of my children.

Have you notified Jeremy Kyle ?

SolidGoldBrass · 29/07/2010 21:29

I can see how and why you feel a bit guilty and ashamed OP - because to most of us, that sort of physical aggression is pretty unusual so when it actually happens, we start thinking that we should have said or done something to avert it before it got that far. But if this woman's got form for assaulting family members already, then sooner or later, no matter what, she was going to have a go at you. You did nothing wrong in defending yourself by force from someone trying to strangle and bite you - if anyone did that to me I would hit and kick, too!
Do press charges. If she's been getting away with it for years, then clearly hushing things up and asking her to stop is not working as a strategy and it's time to see if being arrested will cool her jets a bit. It might be the shock she needs to get her to address her drinking and violence. If it isn't, then keep her away from yourslef and your family and leave her to it. You don't have to put up with this behaviour just because she's a relative.

slushy · 29/07/2010 21:30

No we have not notified Jeremy Kyle{grin].

She is a mental health nurse (I know ironic) she was a unqualified (is that what it is called) but has just finished her degree and told us to night that she has a nursing post in mental health as long as she passes and gets her pin (Is that right).

scottishmummy · 29/07/2010 21:32

her registration will be at risk if any police charges and employer/regulatory body notified

rubbersoul · 29/07/2010 21:34

You've done nothing wrong... she tried to STRANGLE you and bite you......... bloody hell..... I hope you're ok?! Must have been a hell of a shock

drloves · 29/07/2010 21:41

Slushy ...shes a mental health nurse ! OMG !
...So she will be working with psycatrists then?
Thats Good , they might spot her personality disorder and get her treated.
If the rest of DH`s family stop speaking to you , then its out of fear , not because of any other reason.
You never know , you might have inspired them to stand up to her in the future !

scottishmummy · 29/07/2010 21:43

stop online diagnosis.fighting and biting (allegedly) anything else is hyperbole.

DetectivePotato · 29/07/2010 21:47

Bugger that. She deserved this. She has hit you before and her DD.

No one to blame but herself. About time someone stood up to her by the sounds of it!

scottishmummy · 29/07/2010 21:55

so from a violent altercation, some can diagnose mil mental state

by all means comment on the post (and it sounds vile) but all the diagnosis murder speculation about psych state is guessing

mummysgoingmad · 29/07/2010 21:56

WOW!!!! i think she needs a mental health nurse instead of becomming one!

drloves · 29/07/2010 22:02

scottishmummy - normal healthy people do not hit when they fail to bully others into submission.
People who are ill mentally or have personality disorders do.
What that is exactly is wrong with slushys Mil is unknown...but something is wrong.

teameric · 29/07/2010 22:06

fuck me I hope I never get put in the mental hospital where she works.....no but seriously you have nothing to feel ashamed about, the silly bitch was strangling you what was you meant to do, ask her nicely to stop?

scottishmummy · 29/07/2010 22:07

really?i think you will find violence occurs in so called normal folk with no mh diagnosis and assuming or labelling is wrong.it is stigmatising to assume bad=mental health.many people behave in dysfunctional/violent ways in absence of mental health issue

i am saying dont assume dysfunction/violence=mental health

arses · 29/07/2010 22:11

Didn't OP mention she was an alcoholic? Surely pertinent here?

scottishmummy · 29/07/2010 22:13

are you saying slushy is alcoholic.how do you know that

mummysgoingmad · 29/07/2010 22:15

no her mil is an alcoholic

AgentZigzag · 29/07/2010 22:16

'i am saying dont assume dysfunction/violence=mental health'

I agree, and the opposite presumption that people with mental heath issues are dangerous.

GeraldineAubergine · 29/07/2010 22:19

She won't be able to register or get her pin if she has an assualt charge against her, she has to sign a declaration of good character and admit things like that, rightfully so if working with vulnerable people.

teameric · 29/07/2010 22:21

agree nothing to do with mental health, she just seems like she needs some serious anger management (the mil that is not slushy)

scottishmummy · 29/07/2010 22:23

maybe mil is just a radge.plain and simple

this oft touted assumption of mental health to explain any deviancy/violence really isnt on

mummysgoingmad · 29/07/2010 22:26

yes seem s very highly strung!

i would keep well clear and tbh if i was in your position i would never let her see my children again. What if one day they do something bad in her company, she loses her temper and assults them...sod that!

mummysgoingmad · 29/07/2010 22:28

scottishmummy that is the 1st time i've heard someone other than my mum use the word radge, choked on my cuppa

expatinscotland · 29/07/2010 22:34

DH uses radge all the time.

Also gadgie.

And shan.

LadyBlaBlah · 29/07/2010 22:35

LOL @ "all the diagnosis murder speculation"

mummysgoingmad · 29/07/2010 22:36

NO WAY!!! what about goorie ans stal?

i'm in shock i thought my mum was just plain weird and made up her own words!
