To wonder where the hell is my shopping and/or money?

Last night I checked my bank account online, £105.00 is the balance. Fine, I'll do an online shop at asda to arrive tomorrow.
Total shopping comes to £80.76.

Shopping does not arrive today and when I call to enquire why, I am told that there were insufficent funds in my account.

I then check online balance,£24.24 suggesting that between last night and now £80.76 has been debited.
Phoned bank to make enquiries and indeed Asda have taken the amount and bank gave me the authorisation number.I ask if it is possible that it is a pending payment, bank says no, as it has come off the balance then the payment has went through.

Phone Asda back, not helpful in the slightest, They say that they have not recieved the money, I tell them I have an authorisation code from my bank and an available balance which says otherwise. They say they will look into it and call me back at midday tomorrow.

So I now have only £24,Very little food, live in the back of beyond so no shops, will have to take two buses to a tesco tomorrow to see how far my £24 will stretch for baby food, milk and wipes.

Where is my money if it's not in my bank and Asda say they don't have it????

Bastids. Make an utter nuicance of yourself until they sort it.

Grrr on your behalf.

EricNorthmansmistress · 11/07/2010 20:21

Asda will have taken it, but not actually taken it. They will release it to you in a week. They are cunts. Complain, complain complain and get a fat voucher to make up for it. If they couldn't bill you they should have called you. Asda are absolutely awful, they take a ghost payment when you place the order and another when they run the stuff through the tills, they are supposed to release the ghost payment immediately but often they don't, leaving you short for a week. It has happened to me twice with them. Will never use asda online again, use tesco, they don't do this.

EricNorthmansmistress · 11/07/2010 20:22

Last time, they brought me the shopping anyway after I made a massive stink. They should bring you your food. Let them know it's because of the ghost payment system - they are fuckers.

funnysinthegarden · 11/07/2010 20:22

bloody Asda. Can't help obv re the money or shopping, but they are being total gits.

Sometimes am glad we don't have such a thing as online shopping here.........

pissedrightoff · 11/07/2010 20:23

Also, When I asked why I had not been contacted re:failed payment, The reply was we are not obligated to contact you. you should make sure you have the funds available for the order you have made.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2010 20:23

that's dreadful!
Ask them how you are meant to live for the next week?

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2010 20:24

"you should make sure you have the funds available for the order you have made. "
aargh bet you were fuming at this point!
Obviously it's all your fault - you should never spend £24 less than the total you have in your account

EricNorthmansmistress · 11/07/2010 20:24

no, they should have called you. Tesco do. Asda did call me. Seriously, they are bloody terrible.

ThatVikRinA22 · 11/07/2010 20:26

im so glad i saw this thread....

im angry for you. how can they take the money and not give you your shopping? bastards.

Besom · 11/07/2010 20:28

That's really shit! I once didn't have enough funds for a Tesco shop to go through and they phoned me to give me a chance to sort it out.

misdee · 11/07/2010 20:30

thats terrible! tesco tend to do a 50p 'ghost' payment apparently.

nannynick · 11/07/2010 20:38

Never used ASDA for online shopping - doubt I ever will if this is their high quality standard of customer service.

Have posted to Twitterland... lets see how fast ASDA will resolve this situation.

Given that other posters are saying that similar things have happened to them, maybe Asda needs to look at getting a new payment processor. If the bank is saying the payment was authorised, then how come Asda's payment processor is not telling Asda that the payment has been authorised?

pissedrightoff · 11/07/2010 20:40

Am sooo f*ing upset, Honestly how am I supposed to feed the baby and myself and DH on £24 for a week??? Grrrrrrr

OP posts:
bossyboop · 11/07/2010 20:41

Eric i like your style! Hate asda, even when they bring it its mouldy, squashed, about to go out of date and late. I would definitely complain. DH bought a computer game there and the box was on the shelf so sold it through the till but there wasnt any left so got a £3 giftcard on top of the refund which was a nice extra so if they do that for things like that then you should get something more for this. I switched to sainsburys, thought they would be expensive but i get far more for my money in fact instead of £300 a month in asda i now spend £200 in sainsburys. Plus when i had probs with my card because i moved and house and they decided to freeze it till i answered 20 security questions, sainsburys rang me to check the details and asked me for another card, i was still on the phone to them when the shopping van turned up. Asda is the root of all evil.

pissedrightoff · 11/07/2010 20:44

Cheers everyone, Am not going to let this lie. There will be payback.
Things are hard enough and believe me having even £105 left in the bank a week before payday was a miracle in itself.Maybe one day I'll have savings to fall back on.

bossyboop · 11/07/2010 20:55

I would be furious, I would be in the same boat, no other funds available, empty cupboards and no money to buy anything.

Last time i rang to complain I moaned about the following: 6 cartons of milk that were delivered on the friday with a use by date of sunday, a swiss roll that was squashed flat, dented tins, a box of 15 eggs with 11 eggs being smashed and all the fresh meat had to be used that day or the next day. Tho it made a pleasant change from finding black soggy bananas, potatoes full of eyes and peaches covered in green mould.

pissedrightoff · 11/07/2010 21:38

Hmm if they don't settle this to my satisfaction. Who can I threaten them with (other than a hungry/screaming baby) Is there some kind of supermarket ombudsman?(sp?)

YANBU - they are crap! Mt SIL ordered with them 5 days before christmas. (Nothing important for xmas, just basics and a few treats).

Her shopping hadn't arrived 2 hours after end of slot so she rang and they told her it was on it's way. Another 2 hours, rings again, van stuck in traffic, there soon. 2 MORE hours, phoned again, van has been in an accident and is stuck in a ditch, nobody hurt. Of course this wasn't anyone's fault but Asda say get a takeaway, take down this code, take receipt for TA to local store within 2 weeks and get a refund for it. Shopping will be redelivered tomorrow.

When shopping arrives the next day, bread is frozen. some beer bottles broken and all over other stuff in bag, lots of food badly squashed and bags muddy. Turns out it was the same shopping that had been in the van in the ditch!!!!!

Sorry, lon story but just shows how shite they are! Hope it gets sorted and you get your money/shopping soon.

nannynick · 11/07/2010 21:52

Don't think there is a supermarket ombudsman.

However you could try writing to the head woman at Asda (Wal-Mart UK)

Judith McKeena
ASDA Group Limited
Asda House Southbank
Great Wilson St.
Leeds LS11 5AD

She is currently Chief Financial Officer (so may even know something about payment processing).

pissedrightoff · 11/07/2010 21:59

Thanks Nannynick, I'll wait to see what tomorrows phonecall brings, then get my evil fountain pen out and start writing.

work out how much you spend there each year, tho i would exaggerate, and put that to them also to show them how much business they will lose, not to mention when you tell all your family and friends...

BikeRunSki · 11/07/2010 22:14

What about Leeds Trading standards to complain to too?

pissedrightoff · 12/07/2010 12:45

Right, after many, many phonecalls to Asda and my bank here is the situation.

Asda maintains that at 23:55 they requested from my bank to confirm that £80.76 was available, they say that this was NOT them putting the transaction through merely checking the amount was available and that my bank has made an error in treating this as an actual transaction, issuing an authorisation code and holding the money as pending from my available balance.(sounds like a load of crap to me)

Asda say they then 4 hours later tried to put the actual transaction through which was then declined due to lack of funds.

My bank refute this, and say that at 23:54 Adsa requested the payment and it was authorised at that point but they can also see that Asda tried to take the same amount again 4 hours later.

The upshot of all this being that there is £80.76 pending to Asda, leaving me with £24.00 to my name. The bank cant give me it back, as far as they are concerned I have made payment to Asda and it will drop back into my account within 10 days should Asda not claim it.

Asda cant deliver my order even though payment is authorised, as original order was cancelled due to NON-PAYMENT and I would have to place an entirley new order and have a new payment taken which I can't do as........................I only have £24 and their minimum order is £25.

So, I have Asda's head office address thanks to Nannynick, who has some choice phrases to include in it?????And is there anyone with knowledge of banking/debit card transactions who can confirm that what Asda are saying is a load of bulls*

Argh! am furious and hungry
