To wonder where the hell is my shopping and/or money?

Last night I checked my bank account online, £105.00 is the balance. Fine, I'll do an online shop at asda to arrive tomorrow.
Total shopping comes to £80.76.

Shopping does not arrive today and when I call to enquire why, I am told that there were insufficent funds in my account.

I then check online balance,£24.24 suggesting that between last night and now £80.76 has been debited.
Phoned bank to make enquiries and indeed Asda have taken the amount and bank gave me the authorisation number.I ask if it is possible that it is a pending payment, bank says no, as it has come off the balance then the payment has went through.

Phone Asda back, not helpful in the slightest, They say that they have not recieved the money, I tell them I have an authorisation code from my bank and an available balance which says otherwise. They say they will look into it and call me back at midday tomorrow.

So I now have only £24,Very little food, live in the back of beyond so no shops, will have to take two buses to a tesco tomorrow to see how far my £24 will stretch for baby food, milk and wipes.

Where is my money if it's not in my bank and Asda say they don't have it????

My DH has just summed it up beautifully: ASDA? That's bloody Walmart. They're American - what did you expect?

HonestyBox · 12/07/2010 15:13

Mental note - never use asda for online shopping. The close to sell by date stuff would annoy the hell out of me apart from anything else, I hate a bag of yellowing salad I do.

Hope the op has got it sorted.

veyron · 12/07/2010 15:16

i have now sent to 105 of my contacts!

pissedrightoff · 12/07/2010 15:26

Just had a phonecall from head office they are blaming the bank saying a timeout situation occured and the transaction was voided.

Once the bank have issued the authorisation code they can't void it, that would have had to come from Asda.

I am so angry I am shaking

After reading this, I'll never use them either.

We've always had great experiences with Ocado.

IndigoSky · 12/07/2010 15:28

Even if it was the bank's mistake originally there is nothing stopping Asda from repaying you right now.

Disgraceful.

Hey pissedright off I think you and I share the same Asda store - in fact I live two minutes away. Can i do anything useful to help? Leave some faeces at the fag counter perhaps

Tanga · 12/07/2010 15:35

I've emailed them - lets keep bumping and getting everyone to do it. There's a thread on Money Saving Expert forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=1679797 about something like this happening in store with one of their self-service tills - but elsewhere on the site they say not to bother emailing as Asda never reply - so it seems to me that Asda obviously don't give a toss.

veyron · 12/07/2010 15:37

Tanga

I reckon if everyone emails ASDA they will have to take notice at some point.

MaryMungo · 12/07/2010 15:39

I think Asda will soon learn that shoddy customer service costs them much more than £80.76

MustHaveaVeryShortMemory · 12/07/2010 15:43

Can't believe they did this, what a disgrace.

I recommend Tesco and Ocado (price matched to Tesco), I've never had any problems like this in hundreds of online shops. Made a mental note never to shop with Asda again, IME they bring stuff with poor use by dates anyway.

craftynclothy · 12/07/2010 15:45

Whether it's the bank or Asda that have caused the problem it shouldn't be the bloody customer that has to friggin' well go without food.

pissedrightoff · 12/07/2010 15:45

Am just on hold with my bank and as I suspected, once bank has issued an authorisation code, then it's in the hands of the retailer to claim the money

Comewhinewithme · 12/07/2010 15:49

Asda if you are reading this i spend 140.00 a week online with you I also do my Grans shopping which is around 70.00 a week.
If this is not sorted today I will start using Ocado.

I am also about to retweet this thread and facebook it.

maduggar · 12/07/2010 15:57

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry this has happened to you. This could so easily happen to us in the last week of the pay month No way am I ever going to risk using Asda online now!

Something similar happened to me with Paypal, I kept trying to pay for a buggy Id won on ebay, but it kept timing out. My bank had sent the payment 3 times though, but paypal never go any of them. I had to wait 7 days for the payments to "bounce back". I was a single parent on benefits at the time, and it took my entire weeks money I was very lucky to have grandparents who helped me out with food & nappies that week!

catinthehat2 · 12/07/2010 15:57

Asda have started to deliver in my area and I was considering giving them a whirl, but I don't think I'll bother now.

pissedrightoff · 12/07/2010 15:59

Finished call with bank, and although they can't do anything regarding the money, they are completley confident that there is no error on their part and are more than happy for this to go to the press.

Was also thinking, who is earning the interest on these ''held'' funds, cos it sure ain't me

OP posts:
RedArsedBaboon · 12/07/2010 16:05

Email done and also referred them to this thread.

Also the longer they take to sort it, I think this should be spread to other forums, and around the internet because people need to be warned about the possibility of this happening to them.

boiledegg1 · 12/07/2010 16:07

That's disgraceful, and I am at putting all the close to sell by date stuff into customers' online shopping. I will never ever use their service after hearing this feedback. I hope you get a quick resolution OP.

littleducks · 12/07/2010 16:07

I had aproblem like this about 5 years ago, with 'ghost' transactions and pending funds when booking a holiday online. I thought the systems had all changed, especially all the 'verify by visa' etc. and it couldnt happen any more.

A big boo to ASDA, im still mad with them for selling me mouldy jam and cereal 6 weeks out of date last week (that was a breakfast that really irritated me), apparently i have to take items back to store for a refund, unlike Sainsburys who will sort it over the phone

clayre · 12/07/2010 16:07

After i got my shopping from Asda last week i decided never again, i got loads of someone elses shopping!!! When i foned customer services to let them know the lady laughed at me for telling them, i was quite concerened that some poor person had a load of shopping missing that they were probably depending on! In the end they came back the next day and picked up the bags!!!

Sainsburys is getting my custom this week!!!!
