New thread as promised. I’ll pop on later to tag everyone as I wanted to get this link on the old thread before it fills up!

I'm 45. I've been drinking a bottle/bottle and a half a night for as long as I can remember with the odd dry January/ Stoptober along the way - but I...

@MamaGhina I have a week under my belt today and this morning found myself planning this evenings wine guzzle on the way back from the shops!!!
I feel so much better, I can't believe I could want to throw it away in a guzzle that lasts minutes. I am going to do my hypnosis and pray the craving will pass. Hope we will all get through through Friday night cravings. Really trying to eat well , take b bits and magnesium.

Chunkymonkey123 · 16/02/2024 12:40

Hello all! I’ve read through this thread and you are all really inspiring.
I’m day 2 today, still feel a bit hungover if I’m honest. I’ve been thinking of taking a break for a few months now but I’ve frightened myself recently as I’m not sure if I can stop and when I do drink I don’t feel in control.

MamaGhina · 16/02/2024 13:10

Thanks @SpringNotSprung! No flowers on anything in my garden yet. I’ve spent today cleaning like a mad woman. I remember there was a period in August when everyone on the thread felt angry and I think I’m back in that place Grin that feeling of unfairness. Why is it such an issue for me. This thread at least reminds me that it isn’t just me. I find myself wondering how many others there are in my social circle who would really rather not drink as much as they do. Probably lots.

@Bluegirl19 I hear you! I found these super sized satsumas in Tesco and I’m currently stuffing one. It’s got to be at least 3 portions of fruit 😂

Welcome @Chunkymonkey123 so glad there are still people joining us! Lack of control both when drinking and when trying to stop is a common theme on this thread. There are so many different people on here. Those that were drinking a bottle a night for years and others who just acknowledge they want a break but are struggling to achieve that. Feel free to post as much or a little as you like. That first week can be really tough with the bad sleep and strong cravings. It’s totally worth it though to get that reset if you can.

Hello @Chunkymonkey123 - welcome. The brilliant thing about this thread is that there is no judgement if we fall off the wagon.

@MamaGhina I am in the balmy South. Lots and lots of birdsong today butnit's glorious. I can hear a duck I think - at work where we have a little river and a lake!

MamaGhina · 16/02/2024 21:45

I made it…. I went out for a cycle 😂I think DH may be worrying that I’ve lost the plot.
Then had a shower, washed my hair and am watching tv in my pjs.
It’s not enjoyable watching DH wade his way through a bottle of red but I’m dry and I know tomorrow morning I’ll be glad.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Well done @MamaGhina - very proud of you! Apologies for not checking in. Had a mad busy week. Been forgetting to update my Try Dry app which must be a good sign. I am still needing a fake tipple quite frequently. Not sure if that is a good thing. Quite funny though - we have started saying - god I really need a Nozecco tonight! What does that even mean! Lol

A really nice fake tipple I have been enjoying is Martini Vibrante with tonic. It’s got that nice depth of flavour that many low/no drinks lack. If anyone is looking for a nice treat drink.

BoilingHotand50something · 17/02/2024 08:10

@SpringNotSprung jealous of your garden. Mine has some shoots appearing but still pretty bleak!

BoilingHotand50something · 17/02/2024 08:11

@Chunkymonkey123 welcome! Good to have you on the journey.

BoilingHotand50something · 17/02/2024 08:12

Morning @Bluegirl19 - did you make it?

BoilingHotand50something · 17/02/2024 08:13

Hope you are doing ok @Thepeppapigfanclub

@smegley how are things?

BoilingHotand50something · 17/02/2024 08:15

Hi @Pinotgrigioblues @SummerScoop @TimesaChangeling how are you all? (Just trying to catch up on the last week or so messages).

BoilingHotand50something · 17/02/2024 08:16

Am hoping the spring might help people who have struggled over this very damp winter! Feels lovely for it to be lighter for longer and see little shoots appearing.

MamaGhina · 17/02/2024 09:05

Morning all and @BoilingHotand50something thanks for the updates. I think forgetting to update the app is a good thing, shows you are not obsessing about it.

Didn’t sleep well because of DH’s snoring. Usually I just sigh to myself or try poking him but last night I actually felt rage. I think because sleep is my reward for not drinking so to have that taken away by him… and also his snoring is significantly worse on the nights he drinks. So not only did I “have” to sit next to him while he drinks red wine all night, I then have to sacrifice my sleep because of him. In the end I moved to the sofa and as I was getting up (after poking him and getting him to turn over etc) he actually said “I’m not snoring”.

RAGE!!! Like when he says “I didn’t sleep at all last night” when I laid there listen to him snoring all night. I still feel irrationally angry about it this morning.

As I was on the sofa I couldn’t help but debate in my mind, shouldn’t it be him that moves?! He’s the snorer. I can see separate bedrooms as soon as the kids move out. What a future Sad

I’m channelling my anger into cleaning. It’s my first dry February half term since I don’t know when and instead of driving for hours to a caravan park, we stayed at home. I’ve made the most of my time and my house has never looked so clean. Took 3 bags full of stuff to the charity shop yesterday and gave 2 large bags to friends. I’m going through some sort of cleanse 😂

Hello @Chunkymonkey123 . I’ve only been here a couple of weeks so almost a newbie too. I’ve found the people on this thread really welcoming and encouraging. Just what I need at this crucial moment of really wanting to sort out my alcohol issues. Wishing you the best in your AF journey!

Pinotgrigioblues · 17/02/2024 11:19

@MamaGhina My parents decided on separate bedrooms years ago. I moved my bedroom to the downstairs dining room so they could do it (mum kept the master bedroom - boss lady!). My dad had undiagnosed sleep apnoea for a long time and it made my mum’s life miserable. Absolutely nothing wrong with needing a decent sleep!

Pinotgrigioblues · 17/02/2024 11:21

@BoilingHotand50something Hiya 👋

Yes, I’m doing well thanks. I had 6 days sober, 2 days drinking and then have just finished another 6 days sobriety. I’m feeling so much better about myself. It’s lovely!

MamaGhina · 17/02/2024 11:32

@Pinotgrigioblues I think I should keep the master 😂I deserve it!!!

DD sometimes comments "God, your bedroom was like snore city when I came in. Both of you and both cats!

Sometimes he wakes me and sometimes I wake him. Neither of us sleep very well without each other! He is not, however, allowed in the en-suite! I will not have shaving scum left in there and he uses my nice colour protecting shampoo as if it were going out of fashion.

We are going out to dinner tonight. I will not drink - hope. Although at present I am feeling ill. Gripey tummy, slight nausea, a bit hot and cold. Am off next week and just hope it's my body telling me it needs a rest

BoilingHotand50something · 17/02/2024 12:37

Oh @SpringNotSprung fingers crossed you stay well!

I am a bit of snorer unfortunately but apparently have been much better lately so definitely staying off the booze helps me.

Just been in the garden and found some snowdrops have popped up and some little early daffs. Made me very happy.

TimesaChangeling · 17/02/2024 12:57

I get cross if the dog starts snoring tbh so god knows how I’d cope with full on snore apnoea but before I jettisoned the last relationship flotsam I found myself in the spare room frequently. I hated the noise (and the drunken smell of it tbh).

all going okay here but finding myself stressed and definitely thinking a lot about wine at the moment. My holiday I have been planning and working on for ages is about to be ruined and I am super cross about all of it. Naturally wine is the answer 😤

Well done to everyone who is making progress! Whether it’s days or weeks or more it is still amazing. And spring is a coming!

Chunkymonkey123 · 17/02/2024 13:44

@MamaGhina Sleep deprivation is the worst! My DH is a fidgeter at night and it drives me mad!
I’m on day 3 today. I feel really sad. I’m just unhappy with myself. I’ve started listening to this naked mind and it’s really good and says to let go of the guilt but it’s hard.
