This thread is a kind and supportive environment for anyone committing to an alcohol free life.

From Day 1 onwards, you are welcome here for support, encouragement, tips and chat. There are many of us, at different points on the journey some have been sober for years, months, or weeks, others are just starting out, but all are
committed to an alcohol free life and the freedoms it brings...

Freedom from the tyranny of booze and the effort of figuring out how much to drink, and how and when to procure and drink it.

Freedom from guilt, self loathing, and 3am wake ups, and the fear of what might have been said and done the night before.

Freedom from the pervasive sense of dread and shame.

Freedom to embrace life with energy, and to face challenges with an uncluttered head, a lighter heart, and a lighter recycling bin.

If you've not yet decided whether total abstinence is for you, do feel free to hang out and ask questions but please be aware that discussion of drinking can be triggering, especially for those in the early stages of sobriety.

If you are still drinking, or planning on moderating (and this includes occasional or once in a blue moon drinking) have a look at the moderation threads, which might be a better fit for you.

I check in here every day as part of my recovery. It has kept me accountable, and the wonderful posters who contribute have helped me more than they could possibly know. This is day 137, and I'll be here for a long time!

What would changing the name involve, @jess3817? Have you got an online presence in your current name? I’d say change to something you’re happy and comfortable with, unless it could cause problems in any way.

ColdGreenTeaMug · 06/07/2020 20:16

I agree with Sparkling.

jess3817 · 06/07/2020 20:17

@SparklingLime only on Facebook ( no website) obviously I'm registered as self employed so would have to change the name there, with the insurence etc etc)

jess3817 · 06/07/2020 20:17

@ColdGreenTeaMug thanks 🙂

ColdGreenTeaMug · 06/07/2020 20:19

I did not have mujch to contribute, but you are welcome!!

jess3817 · 06/07/2020 20:24

😂
Now to think of a new simpler but not boring name🤔

SparklingLime · 06/07/2020 20:26

Oh! You haven’t got one in mind? 🤔 Something like ‘Jess & MrJess Cleaning‘ to get the message through to your husband? 😉

jess3817 · 06/07/2020 20:36

😂😂 love it. I should do that.
I have about 4 or 5 in mind.

ColdGreenTeaMug · 06/07/2020 20:42

I agree with Sparkling (again)!

iamyourequal · 06/07/2020 21:55

Hi everyone and congratulations to those slamming milestones! Very impressed you weren’t even tempted after 2 months Orlando. hanging I was just thinking what a crap ‘Shampooy’ name Veera was for a beer Grin. Stressful day in my new job today but managed to resist pouring a drink when I got home. I think I will need to reread my quit lit this week as definitely feeling weaker instead of stronger now I’ve passed the first month. Disappointing!

BunniesBunniesBunnies · 06/07/2020 21:56

@jess3817 definitely change the name!!! I think this thread is all about making bold, positive and brave decisions to make our lives infinitely more awesome🤩🤩🤩

And I really like @SparklingLime’s suggestion, it’s so subtle😂😂😂👍

iamyourequal · 06/07/2020 21:56

Jess putting effort into rebranding your business sounds great. Does this mean DH is going to help you do the cleaning if you are suddenly in greater demand?

jess3817 · 06/07/2020 22:10

Well I suggested @SparklingLimes idea and he laughed ( in a good natured way so that's something) he has said he will come out with me and take some of the load off for me a couple of times a month - I must have caught him at a good time.

SparklingLime · 06/07/2020 22:14

Hmm, he doesn’t get his name on the business unless he takes a full and active role... say 60% of the actual cleaning. Allowing you some time for marketing and putting your feet up, Jess. 👍🏽

SparklingLime · 06/07/2020 22:15

(And driving lessons, of course.)

ColdGreenTeaMug · 07/07/2020 06:06

And at the risk of sounding like a superfan I agree with Sparkling again.

Grin

Anyway- I am dashing to work so will just leave a quote here that was on the Club Soda facebook page;

''the secret of success is consistency of purpose'

Have greta days everyone Thanks

Ravenswick · 07/07/2020 07:45

Can I join? Stopped drinking on 4th July so only on day 4 but worked out last night that if I can keep going til Halloween that will be 100 days (I think!)...

I’ve lurked and read your earlier threads and you seem to really support each other, which I suspect I will need, although the first few days have been actually enjoyable to my surprise.

I’ve stopped before but never managed more than a month and reading your posts I finally understand why, so I am now in for the long haul.

jess3817 · 07/07/2020 09:24

Thanks @SparklingLime he definitely won't do 60 percent ( so no name in the name ) but pleased he had said he will do some for me - he even said it'd be good for him to do it, plus he knows I'll nag he life out of him now because he's said he will.
Sorry for deviating off the thread a bit.
@Ravenswick welcome to the thread, well done on four days - Halloween is a excellent point to aim for.

stoptheride · 07/07/2020 10:10

Morning all, will be back later to catch him up. Just checking in and still AF. Starting to need more and more sleep..!

Drybird2020 · 07/07/2020 15:01

Welcome @Ravenswick and I'm glad you are enjoying the first few days. I felt a lot of relief at having made the decision to stop, and starting the journey, maybe you are experiencing something similar?

I'm checking in briefly to say hello, am recovering from a migraine.

@SparklingLime well done on 6 months and did you put the sheet on the bed? 😊

OP posts:
jess3817 · 07/07/2020 16:13

@Drybird2020 oh no, sorry to hear of the migraine, they are the most evil things to get. Hope you feel back to normal soon x

Ravenswick · 07/07/2020 16:13

Thanks @jess3817 for your welcome, and @Drybird2020 really hope you are in bed somewhere peaceful and will soon feel better - I have had the odd migraine and they are the pits :-(

Yes, at the moment I'm revelling in the new found freedom and devouring your old threads and quit lit - hoping I still feel this good when the novelty has worn off! Good luck to all and thanks for the inspiration so far.

ColdGreenTeaMug · 07/07/2020 18:58

Right I can spend my not-drinking calories on an Indian takeaway can't I?

Thanks. :)

Welcome Ravenswick love your user name!!

Ravenswick · 07/07/2020 19:35

You won’t here a no from me @ColdGreenTeaMug - sounds amazing (no takeaway options where I live sadly...)

Cyllie33 · 07/07/2020 19:51

Hope you did @ColdGreenTeaMug - I’ve just spent mine on a pizza Grin
